This video demonstrates how urban spaces reflect and reinforce social class distinctions through the application of sociological theories. The student team analyzed two Istanbul neighborhoods—Kadıköy and Moda—using Bourdieu's framework of economic, social, and cultural capital to understand how different urban environments shape social interactions, consumption patterns, and identity expression. Their observations revealed that traditional spaces like Kadıköy feature narrow streets, chain restaurants, and a focus on basic consumption, while modern spaces like Moda offer aesthetic environments, boutique establishments, and opportunities for social interaction, reflecting different habitus and social positions.

kadıköy - moda analizi (yeni medya dersi final vlog projemiz)Added:
in a smile star. My baby told me with a smile saying words that came across as a doubt.
I reassured that every day Right now we are in the char station and we starting our trip.
>> Hello everyone. Today I am with my friends in Kadik Chara with Mai Sud Dennis and I am Sud also. Today our trip was based on our observation about Kadiko char.
Right now we're at the and we're eating. We take notes and I want to summarize some of them. First of all, this is not a really small place.
It's really traditional and it's really gives local vibes. It has two floor and we're in the second floor. When we first enter here, we got our food by ourselves. It reminded us the assembly line from our class which also reminded us the portism. Also, we realized that the logo of the restaurant shows a fast.
There were usually home-cooked meals and there are a lot of noises in here like plate noises, conversations. We realized that there's no music in here. Like there's a TV. Also, there's no decorations on the walls. We're in here for almost 30 minutes and there's a lot of people. People usually don't spend that much of time in here. They just eat and go. Also, if we have to talk about the prices, think that it's not too expensive, but also it's not too affordable, but you can definitely find some cheaper places probably. I will be continuing talking about the other stuff such as gender. Here most of the visitors are men actually all of them are men also the workers. We can directly make a correlation about patriarchy. According to Berdo's framework, we can understand a people's social class by looking at their forms of capital, habitus, and social position. These can say things about the person's sociality, places that he or she can visit. They're from working class, middle or lower classes. Also, we observe too many tourists here. The thing that took our attention the most is the fact that they're all men and we are the only woman here. And also the workers are all men and they speak in their own language that we don't really know. But like it also shows us the ethnicity and the inequalities that another ethnics can feel can experience.
In addition, we can also talk about the cheap labor because like all the workers here are from another ethnics. So it shows us that they work in such cheap harsh conditions. They probably don't have insurance and etc. >> Hi, I tried to so big.
>> I want to tell something. I eat chicken soup and sarma and it was very delicious. I like it. But in my soup, there was a flight. But I asked the waiter, uh, can you change my soup? And they did very kindly. So, it's fixed.
And also the restrooms are very clean and very comfortable. I give eight points for this.
When we walk through the streets in Kadiko Chashia, I realized something.
There are chain restaurants across the ESnaf Locantas, which is local places.
And this reminded me of how globalization and capitalism affects the local places. I took some notes.
The coexistence of these constructing spaces reflects on fragmented and diverse nature of postmodern urban life.
The conception today is not only about satisfying needs but about experiencing and expressing identity. And finally, the presence of both chain restaurants and local places show that global capitalism, class differences, and cultural identity coexist and compete within the same urban space.
Right now we are going to the moda and I love so much mod. Moda is the best for the summer season.
Now we are walking to Moda. I'm going to talk about the differences. In the charge we experience very crowded popularity but here walking to Moda we not see that lots of crowded groups but as the observation we see more tourists here since profiles change here see more their income level grow the medium to high level they're more person there. I think >> also I observed that uh the places are changing like in Kaduki there were mostly like food local notes now there are mostly like pot bars people are day drinking here >> right now we are in the model and what do you think about this I think about that in kadik charu there were a lot of people and I thought that there would be less people in Moda but now that I realized there are a lot of people because it's a sunny day and I realized that there are a lot of green like trees and the streets are bigger so I realized that maybe the same amount of people are here but it looks like less because the streets are bigger and greener first. talk about the the workers here.
I think they're also owned by this place. And about the gender, they have balance. They have equality because women and men's there and also their ethnicity. I they're Turks. The place the atmosphere is more modern rather than to piv. And also the atmosphere more based about western culture. They have more cozy place. They you can also easily talk about friends there. People generally come here to drink something to prefer eating because more cozy vibes gives you more comfortable conversation.
And also another observation about here the visitors have coming to their uh pets pet friendly place. And I also want to add that this place according to Pivan or other places in Kaduko is such a designed and aesthetic. In Pivan the customers were just like there to eat and then go to their works. they were in such a rush. People are here because they just want to have fun. They are here because basically to spend quality time. Also the furnitureures uh the design of here, the colors and everything is really like aesthetic. We can also see many plants.
When we walk to Moda to here Mo, we realized that the coffee shops and the places to eat are more of a small and boutique places like they are one and only they're small. They have their own aesthetic. Unlike chain restaurants in Kadik Chashu, in Moda, there are only a few places for chain restaurant.
I want to give a fun fact. I think especially in Moda cats are more beautiful and look like more outfits like they have more fluffy stuff. But in Kadikoy cats are normally take care but in Moda very beautiful. I think this place's prices are more expensive rather than Kadoy and this place more calm and clean. This shows social class for because not everyone came for just eat or drink. They are show their lifestyle and identity and it's related to modern society and consumption culture.
And for a bonus point we are now in the moda sah for a conclusion I want to talk about Bordeaux's forms of capital.
Bordeaux thinks that there are three forms of capital which is economic, social and cultural. For a cultural part, I want to compare Kadik Chashu and Moda in architectural way. In Kadiko Chashu, as we talked about, there are streets very narrow. Kadik charu there are a lot of chain places which are based on face consuming culture. But in Moda there are very big places aesthetically in a very good way.
Kadashu shows us more from modern features, but also Moda shows us the postmodern features. According to Busu's habitus, these places represented different kinds of habits. Like in Pivan, it was more oriented on just like eating and than leaving. On the other hand, Muhaf was more life oriented and aesthetic oriented. In Plyan, it was loud was also a more crowded and like chaotic. It was warm but unpolished colors. On the other hand, cafe was quieter and there were neutral and pastel colors. was representing aesthetic basically. Also, when we were walking from Taru to Moda, we saw many gravities on the wall. It was more colorful. Everyone was more open. I mean like in a cultural social way. Personal experience. I also really liked Moaf more. I want to say that I almost forgot that we were making a homework in Moaf cuz it was more like a hanging out. I'm really glad that we did this >> in char. We realized that a lot of people was not happy that we were filming in Moda like nobody even care.
Also the people's age was different in char most of the people were older ages but in Moda like everyone is in our ages. The way people dressed also changed in char because they're older they wear different things and we felt like we overdressed. But in Moda we felt more comfortable. All of these differences reflected social class, statues and cultural uh capital. For our experience, first of all, we had so much fun. But I have to say that we spent less time in Pivan uh because it was somewhere that we just eat and left. But in MUA, we spent more time, we sit, we talked a lot. But in MUA, they spent hours in there. I want to talk about economic capital. Kadikai prices are more cheaper than the moda. In Kadikai the prices arrives in the wall but in Moda they give us two menu and also in plyan it's have service and it's remind us to forism but in Moda the waiter come and take our order my express. I love this homework because we hang out in mod and we got to know each other very well and this kind of homework is so good for practice our information about the lessons homework will continue the other years. She's more crowded, more nosy. We hear more people sounds also we clearly hear traffic and that chaotic atmosphere but in Moda more relaxed chill and not more people not rushing to somewhere smell more traditional home food they don't smell different in maf more coffee more little alcohol we smell that for my personal experience that I feel more comfortable in maf easily to hang out our friends but In Pivan, you just sit and go. Easy to go place. That's all.
>> Bye.
And thank you guys.
