Patriots Celebrate Career of Longest-Tenured Employee本站添加:
Hello.
>> Koran, hey. It's Nancy with the New England Patriots.
>> Hey, how you doing?
>> I'm doing great. Uh, we have selected you in the fifth round and wanted to make contact and let you know we'd be great to have you return to >> [music] >> Foxboro.
>> [applause] >> Think now that I'm here and I'm about to go into my last project and what's involved post draft, which is [music] uh, being part of all of the player contracts and then I'll do all the [music] trips for the 20 to 45 players coming in for rookie mini camp and I'll tidy all of that up, which is a lot.
And then that'll be about it.
>> hey, I just got booked on the Boston flight this morning. Do you know >> Jimmy.
>> Oh, hey Jimmy. Jimmy, like the most favorite Nancy.
>> To >> [music] >> be able to say I've really only had one job my whole life, I've worked for one [music] company. Being able to, you know, have the Patriots be such a big part of my life. It it all just [music] somehow worked.
>> I love Nancy. She's been like my confidant and I talked to her.
She's got so much wisdom. She's been [music] at this thing 51 years. She's probably been one of the more important people to me in this building. Her heart is [music] all New England Patriots.
>> Nancy's the ultimate ambassador. I mean, from the moment that somebody, [music] whether it's a new employee, when I was a new employee, or a player, or you know, a tryout, >> [music] >> a new coach, uh, you know, joins the Patriots or even sets up a flight to try out [music] for the Patriots, uh, Nancy's there. She's warm, she's loving, she's kind. [music] We wouldn't be where we are without Nancy.
>> Yeah, I'm pretty proud of it. I I think it's a neat thing that's happened.
>> Oh, man. It was Miss Nancy the backbone.
>> Miss Nancy.
>> Miss Nancy. [music] >> That's my name around here for the most part. Even a lot of the guys I work with will call me Miss Nancy, so [music] >> Miss Nancy?
>> Yeah, I'll probably miss that now that you've brought it up.
This is Russ Francis, my first draft choice in 1975.
We're all about the same age, which is interesting about that. And Russ is right here. Russ is with me every day.
And it was just one of these relationships [music] that never ended. And so he'd always come back.
>> How are you?
>> I Great to see you.
>> How did they know?
>> You know, [music] unfortunately, he lost his life in a small aircraft accident, which was the love of his life, flying.
I had a voicemail message from him on my phone saying, [music] "I'm going to be coming in a couple weeks."
And then I didn't see him again, but he's the best. Definitely [music] the best.
>> Nancy Meyer.
>> Right.
>> Nancy Meyer, she's coming up on her retirement.
>> Mhm.
>> Knowing that you had that sort of impact on >> good till he did that.
You know, James Devlin stopped by my office today, and I didn't realize he was in the building, and he's as good an example as talking about Vance Adorante.
The McCourtys, there's a long list of those guys that um I'm >> [music] >> I don't know why we develop these great relationships. You know, it's just a different role played >> [clears throat] >> than a coach is going to play or a scout is going to play or something like that.
It's somebody you can talk about your family with.
>> [music] >> You know, I I I guess there's a saying you remember how people make you feel.
And Nancy was always someone [music] um to me from first impression that, you know, really gave a warmth in this cold weather.
>> You walk into Nancy's office and it's "Hey, Teddy." and the big smile and the the hug and the love and you a little piece of that here, [music] you know, and Nancy was that piece for me.
>> She really exemplifies, you know, what it means to be a patriot.
>> But this is a cute little story.
>> [music] >> Um my [snorts] nephew, um he's a firefighter in Whitman and one of his uh friends from the firehouse has a a daughter one of the elementary schools in Whitman and he sent me this picture and I think maybe March was women in history, sports. It It was something acknowledging career paths of women. And up on the wall in the school was me.
And a little article and a picture and it was Nancy Mayer and I just thought, "Wow, look at me. I made it to the elementary school."
Hey Christian, it's Nancy at the Patriots. [music] Anything come up in the last hour or so that I can help you with? Enjoy this with your family and I'll be in touch probably again on Monday. Yeah, you're probably still spinning, huh?
And it's really going to happen. I'm going to not be here every day.
And I'm going to go into the best part of the year. I love summer.
So I'll have plenty to do and people to see and things to do.
But I'm in a little bit of fear about August and September. You know, that's where I'm a little hesitant about what my real next step will be, but I'll figure it out.
>> Maybe it's nice to get my picture.
>> You and I have been friends for decades.
>> Nancy's been tremendous and it's it's doesn't take long to realize the impact that she's had on people around [music] here whether they're currently in the building or have been here before or have just maybe briefly interacted with her. She just has a way with people that to really make everyone feel comfortable and feel a part of kind of feel welcome and feel a part of what's going on.
>> I think she was a um you know, a friendly [music] face that that cared that that loved uh the players, that loved the team, that loved this organization. And you knew that [music] when you saw her, she was going to be excited, that she was going to you know, give you you know, her her heart and and share her excitement uh for for the team with you.
>> This job and the Patriots are who I am because you know, it it has been since I was 19 years old.
So, being Miss Nancy or Nancy at the Patriots or you know, all of those few names that I'm commonly known as I'm just going to be Nancy Meyer.
>> There's a lot of people that that wanted to [music] be here today that couldn't make it. So, I'll just uh say thank you, Nancy, for everything and introduce uh this video.
>> Nancy, [music] congratulations on a unbelievable career.
>> Hey, Nancy, it's your favorite guy, Willie McGinest.
>> That day was maybe one of the best days of my life. [music] There were faces I hadn't seen in years, friends from Patriots [music] and there was a photo slideshow that were pictures of me and my family and friends and people I worked with and then Super Bowl ring ceremonies and I saw pictures I had never seen before and I was in them. It was beautiful. It was beautiful. Then there was a video tribute that um my little granddaughter sat on my lap while we watched. I looked [music] across the table and my son could not stop crying and it [music] was like 40 people from my past, players and coaches and friends and their families and um paying a tribute [music] to me.
The crafts was so wonderful to make sure I had something on my way out the door and for that I'm forever thankful.
>> [applause] >> It was beyond expectations. It was so lovely.
Love you all. Thanks so much.
>> [applause]
