This video explains that while consumer inflation (CPI) was 3.8% and wholesale inflation was 6% at the time, the elevated energy prices were driving inflation in the wrong direction. The speaker argues that comparing economic performance to a predecessor (like saying 'it's not as bad as Biden') is not an effective political strategy, as voters need actual economic relief rather than comparative arguments.

"I'm Not as Bad as Biden" Isn't an Inflation Strategy — Brian Mudd on the NumbersAdded:
Um, what what he's referring to is last week President Trump when asked about the inflation situation because it has become particularly problematic.
CPI, so consumer inflation at 3.8% last month. Wholesale inflation, so what businesses paid, 6%.
Numbers continuing to trend in the wrong direction because of the elevated energy prices. And so when President Trump was pressed on that, his comment was, "Well, it's not as bad as Biden." And I mean, true, uh nowhere near as bad as peak Biden, but when again, when your argument is, "Well, I'm not as bad as Biden." That's not a winning argument, right? That's not the conversation anybody who expects to win election should be having. So, um that's that's the context of this.
