[00:00:05]Anesthesia masks have to create an airtight lock against your skin or gas leaks out and you wake up mid-surgery.

[00:00:12]The silicone cushion is inflated like a tiny tire, usually to around 60 cm of water pressure, just enough to block every gap without crushing bone.

[00:00:21]But skin is soft. That constant squeeze collapses the tiny capillaries underneath. No blood flow means blanching, then reactive hyperemia floods back in.
