Regular exercise combined with oxygen therapy can shift the shortness of breath curve, allowing individuals with lung diseases like pulmonary fibrosis to perform more physical activity without experiencing breathlessness, as demonstrated by a patient who progressed from being unable to walk 50 feet without oxygen to walking 2 miles daily without supplemental oxygen.

My Superpower! Moving the Shortness of Breath CurveAdded:
Notice in the video that follows these little lines on my face, that's the That's called cannula lines. That's from wearing an oxygen cannula 23 hours of the day. If you read the article I published on Substack about how to move the shortness of breath curve and what that curve is, uh then this is an example of it. So, 5 6 years ago when I was first diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis, I couldn't walk 50 ft without an oxygen tank and and having to stop and rest.
Uh over time I used oxygen every day, 24 hours a day, uh and used oxygen tanks in order to exercise and do strenuous exercise as well as breathing exercises and lung expansion training. So, that when I wrote that article about uh the ability to change the shortness of breath curve, meaning that what is causing us to be short short of breath right now by exercise can be moved out and we can do more without it. So, this is a living example of that for me. So, from being able to unable to live without an oxygen tank, uh through exercise for the last several years, every morning I go out and this is the 1 hour every day that I spend without an oxygen tank. I mean, while I'm home, it's just like it's there. Plug it in, breathe oxygen, stay at 98%.
Go to the exercise Go to the gym and exercise.
Definitely got to wear an uh an oxygen tank there for a hard exercise workout. But now, this is a a leisurely walk, me and my dogs. They walk a little ways, smell a few things, and we go about 2 miles every morning.
And have for years. And that's the 1 hour a day that I do it without oxygen.
Uh that's an example of moving the shortness of breath curve. I'm not hypoxic. I'm not you know, uh in a desaturated state, but my muscles, my lung lungs, my heart are strong enough to enable me to do some level of exertion like this without my oxygen tank. And it's kind of a daily test. I don't recommend this for for anyone who is uh um has has lung disease and is uh uh prescribed supplemental oxygen. Don't do what I do. I just I share this to say, this is what's possible. This is what's happened for me and it's a it's a beautiful thing. I don't resent the oxygen tank.
I don't think, "Oh, one day I'll get off oxygen." I don't care.
I wear an oxygen tank proudly when I go to the gym and uh it is my superpower. I say that often. The oxygen tank is my superpower. It's enabled me to to become extremely strong and healthy like I was 25, 30 years ago before I 6 years ago had lung scarring and lung damage from pulmonary uh for fibrosis and uh and pneumonia. So, uh this is what's possible.
Have a great day, folks.
