Guyana has successfully completed the world's longest-distance robotic telesurgery procedure, spanning 20,000 kilometers between Georgetown and India, and is now establishing a formal training and accreditation hub in collaboration with the SSI Mantra ecosystem to train regional medical professionals in robotic-assisted surgery across multiple specialties including cardiac, general surgery, gynecology, and urology.

GUYANA TO TRAIN REGIONAL DOCTORS AFTER HISTORIC ROBOTIC SURGERY SUCCESSAdded:
President Eran Ali said Tuesday as Guyana marked its 60th independence anniversary that Guy is positioning itself as a regional training hub for robotic surgery following the successful completion of the longest distance telesurgery procedure ever performed.
According to Ali, the country successfully facilitated a coronary artery bypass graph using the SSI Mantra 3 robotic surgical system. The surgery was performed remotely by internationally recognized cardiac surgeon Dr. Sudir Shvasa who operated from Guyana on a patient in India. The president said the procedure covered an estimated 20,000 kilometers making it a global milestone in teley surgery.
>> The procedure in India was supported on site by Dr. Lit Malik and Dr. Muhit Bandari.
Following that historic moment, >> Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony said the country will also establish a formal training and accreditation system involving the Ministry of Health, the University of Guyana, and the post-graduate medical institute. And we've demonstrated that if you have a hub here, you can have spokes in different countries, different places, and that we are capable of doing these types of surgery.
And we we we've demonstrated we can do it with heart, we can do it in general surgery, and gynecology and urology.
Meanwhile, the president disclosed that GY medical teams were sent to India for specialized training as part of the country's move into robotic surgery. He said Guy will now establish an international training hub in collaboration with the SSI Mantra ecosystem. We made the investment and we bought the entire training module and we got the SS Mantra ecosystem to agree to put an international training hub here in Guyana to train all our professionals. The government believes the technology could eventually allow specialists in Georgetown to operate on patients at regional hospitals across Guyana while improving access to specialized care outside the capital.
