Day 74 of 75 learning Croatian

[00:00:05]Um, and I'm about to have my second attempt at conversation. So, yesterday I did 40 minutes before it really felt as if it wasn't worth carrying on because I was just exhausted. So, I want to see today if I can go longer than 40 minutes. Ideally, I'll do the full hour and see how that goes. So, I'm just about to jump in and fire it up. I am talking to Sonia today. So hopefully uh hopefully she's naturally patient. Uh I think is patient in Croatian. So that's a good sign that I remember that.

[00:00:43]Um so yeah, just going to open that up now. Actually, no, I'm going to leave it until it goes. I'm a little bit Yeah, I'm a little bit um yeah uh particular about timing there. It just turned 12:00, so now I feel I can legitimately open it. And it's Google Meet, so I'm very familiar with that. So that is good.

[00:01:54]How much time you give it until you start sending emails saying am I in the right place etc. I always feel there's a risk of me just starting to sing to myself and then be in full flow just when they come in and and hear me being bonkers.

Is it levels? Is it advanced? Is it like >> what what what we have is that you can uh you can navigate through it. We we work around a kind of um martial arts site. So we have belts um for levels because we find that most people when we talk to them, if we talk to them about um European framework ratings, not many people really understand that. But if we say, well, just try at these levels, and when you find the level that feels um difficult, but not too difficult for you, you're you're in the right place.

[01:02:06]So, it's it's very fast to to choose a place. Um I'd be very very happy to set you up with with full access. Um just email me and just I'm so grateful to you that this has been yesterday I I I got to 40 minutes and I couldn't carry on.

[01:02:22]My my brain was hurting too much. But today I've been able to keep going the whole time. Um, >> did great.

You're very skilled at at letting the pauses exist, but then also filling them when the when the learner needs the help. This has felt like a very successful day to me. So, I'm I'm really excited. I'm very grateful.

[01:02:48]>> And I'll I'll make sure I'm raspy on my Spanish because I work so hard that I keep forgetting. Yeah.

[01:02:54]>> So, I think I'll do something on your website just to keep me going with my Spanish so that I don't forget it, you know. And it seems like it says something. Am I right? Is that a >> Yeah.

[01:04:05]Oh, well that just felt like a lot of fun and that that felt like the breakthrough actually because I know that although I missed bits of what she was saying uh whenever I needed to, we were able to circle back and unpick it.

[01:04:20]She did a fantastic job of staying in Croatian for me the entire time. Uh and now I know I've I've spent an hour speaking Croatian. And as I always tell our Welsh learners, if you can spend one hour speaking that language, you can spend as many hours as you want speaking that language. So I am definitely I'm ready to to keep on learning now just through the process of having conversations. So that's pretty exciting confirmation. So that was that was day 74. So day 75 I'm going to have one last conversation.

[01:04:53]uh and the way in which languages go.

[01:04:55]That may feel harder than today, but it doesn't matter if it does. And then after that, I'll just be doing a little bit of listening exercises around situations I might encounter in in Croatia. But I think um I think I'm ready to go. I think this I think this has been a success.
