This video presents a critical analysis of the book 'Picking Daisies on Sunday' by Diemmi Le, who argues that the novel suffers from excessive and nonsensical miscommunication between characters, poorly developed side characters with no descriptions, and unrealistic character decisions such as confessing love while drunk. The reviewer criticizes the author for introducing numerous side characters without providing any meaningful descriptions, making them feel like random names rather than real people. While acknowledging the male lead's yearning and the beautiful poetry in the book, the reviewer concludes that the overall narrative structure feels chaotic and AI-generated, ultimately giving the book a 3 out of 5 star rating despite its entertaining elements.

this book has the most NONSENSICAL plot I've ever read in my LIFEAdded:
Are you listening to yourself right now?
Is the Is the brain not working?
Oh my god, girl. Get the What are you talking about?
What? What is going on? Literally, what is going on? Hi everybody. Welcome back to my YouTube channel. Today we are talking about picking daisies on Sunday.
COMPUTER, COMPUTER, PLAY the cure by Olivia Rodrigo. COMPUTER, GET THESE two leads of this book to communicate.
Computer, make these two characters super communicative and super horny.
What the [ __ ] is this book? Let's just start off by saying if you guys like this book, it won't be the most positive review. So, if this is one of your favorite books in the world, you might want to log off now because I don't want any feelings to be hurt. Everyone is of course entitled to their own opinion. I would love to know the reasons why you loved the story, but this review is not going to be positive. All right, so we are getting into the nitty-gritty of this book. I started picking Daisies on Sunday, last night at 11:00 p.m. I finished it today. I've never read a book in under 24 hours. Ever. Ever.
Ever. Because I am such a slow reader. I read this book in under 24 hours. Okay, that gives this book some sort of merit.
Let's just get straight into it. What is Picking Days and Sun Sunday? It is a contemporary romance book. It's like best friends to strangers to lovers again. It is a fake dating. These two people reunite after a falling out in high school and never speaking to each other for four years. So, they are seniors in college. We are following two college students who live in New York City. Oh my god, the amount of roller coasters that I've spent in the last 24 hours reading and consuming this book is so crazy. There is some merit to the book because I finished it under 24 hours. I actually read the whole book in under 24 hours. Like I ate it up. I ate it up. I was here for the drama. I was here for the vibes. I was here for the love. I was here for the yearning. Okay.
And this book really did have yearning.
All right. But the characters, how the roller coasters of emotions I went through reading this book, like I cannot even just get straight into it.
It follows two best friends, then they are strangers, and then they reunite and then all of a sudden they are doing fake dating. So that is where we are. I have just never seen a miscommunication trope so bad. Like I have never seen a miscommunication trope miscommunicate this badly in my life. All right? AND I HAVE READ A a plenty of books. I have read many many many romance books. All right? And miscommunication trope is a big one. And unpopular opinion, a lot of people don't like the miscommunication trope. I'm okay with it as long as it makes sense because miscommunication is a part of life. No one is going to communicate things fully. It's just real, right? People are bad communicators. We are human. We are not perfect. We might have to learn how to communicate better, right? And so it makes sense to a lot of romance stories to miscommunicate, to not be able to show your feelings, but the amount of miscommunication in this book, oh my god. This is just kind of an intro to what I will be ranting about in this book. I hate to rag on a female lead of a romance book because I think as readers we do not give female leads enough credit. We are so much more critical of female leads. I think Tessa Bailey said this in one of her um openings to other of her of her books which I totally agree with. I think we either have to see a female lead as this perfect perfect basically a manic pixie dream girl of a person that even if they have flaws, they are still super super likable and redeemable in some sort of way, which I don't really agree with.
And I wish that we were more okay with having female leads be unlikable and be that sort of way. I get that. I understand that. I always want to give my female leads the benefit of the doubt. I love a good female lead, but honey, not to rag on any author who publishes a book, but this book right away when I started reading it, I was like, is this book written by AI?
Because what in the nonsensical is going on? What is going on? I literally was 25% of the way through the book and I was like, I don't know any of these characters. I don't know what the is going on. Just get into it, okay? I'mma tell you the plot. I'mma tell you what happens. I'm going to give you the big big ideas of what happens. And then you tell me if I am going crazy, okay?
Because I am freshly freshly off this book. I literally closed the Kindle like 20 minutes ago. Finished up my review on Goodreads. If you want to see my notes and highlights on this book, you can go check that on Goodreads, too. I was late at night talking about every single part of the book, highlighting at all the crazy parts like what is going on. Okay, you tell me if I'm going crazy. We start off the book follows two characters. One of them is named Levi. Okay, love that.
love a man named Levi. We love Levi Acriman. Okay, we love a Levi. We love a Levi. Okay. And the main girl character, the female lead, her name is Daisy, hence picking daisies on Sunday. Okay, title of the book. Her name is Daisy.
She also works in a flower shop. Okay, it's giving Lily Blossom Bloom. Okay, I swear when I first read this book, I was like, "This has to be written out by AI." Because, not to help myself, but I have watched a Tik Tok ad that was completely AI animated characters, and it was like a 20-minute ad playing the first 20 minutes of like this AI movie.
And I was like, wait, why is it kind of good? Why is it kind of eating? Why is it kind of good? This is what this story feels like. It feels like a fever dream.
All right, so let's get straight into it. It's just so jarring when you start off the book because it goes straight into um the female lead's story, but it's not really her backstory. It's like the falling out. So, it's senior year of high school. It's prom. She's crying and she wants to confess her feelings to her boy best friend. They've been friends for years and she just cannot help but love him. And she planned it all out.
She has it in her notes app and she is going to confess her feelings and then she ends that chapter with 10 minutes later he broke my heart and I didn't see him for 4 years. So that is the prologue. We get into chapter 1. She is at a bar with her friends. We don't know these people at all. They barely introduce them. The details in this book, the writing is either so nondescript or so good. There's no in between. We don't really know these people at all. We don't really get much description about who they are, what they look like. I honestly, maybe they said it once in the book. Maybe I skimmed it, but I don't know what Daisy looks like. I'm just going to selfinsert Daisy as me. That's literally what I did because I was like, what does she really look like? She is YN. She is at the bar or she's at the diner with her friend Gabe and she'll watch with her other friend Gia, kind of seeing him go out on Tinder dates. We don't know these people really. Okay, we're like chapter 1.
Chapter 1, chapter 2. We're sitting at the bar and then bam, she picks she drops something on the floor. She picks it up and then she feels beer fall on her hair a little bit. She's like, "Oh no, someone spilled some beer on me.
Sorry." She looks up. It's her guy best friend from 4 years ago. She hasn't seen him in 4 years. And she's like, "Oh my god, I haven't seen this man in 4 years." Mind you, we don't know anything about her. We don't know anything about him. And he's like, "Oh, do you want to go get a drink?" At the bar, Shirley Temples, right? All right. Let's go to the bar. He's super hot, super gorgeous.
Why? Why am I doing that accent? I don't know. Okay, I got the computer voice stuck in my head. And then they go get a Shirley Temple. Mind you, we're one to two chapters into this book. We don't know these people at all. All we know is that there's a girl, she's a college student, four years ago. This is her guy, best friend, and he randomly is at the same bar and randomly she's out with her friends, too, I'm pretty sure. And she just ditches her friends cuz he's there and he's like, "Oh, do you want to go get a drink at the bar?" She goes to the bar, gets a Shirley Temple, and then some other random girl comes over. Where did she come from? Like, this is what I'm telling you. It feels like one of those AI verticals. Like, what is going on? And then immediately upon that, chapter 1, chapter 2, this girl starts flirting with him. Levi goes, male lead of the book. Levi goes, "Oh, Bella, this is my girlfriend, Danny, aka Daisy."
Okay, Danny, Daisy, Dianiela, that's all one person. And she's like, "Oh, what?"
Like, girlfriend. He goes, "Sorry, I panic. That's Bella. I'm trying to get her off my back because her mom is like one of the bosses at the New York Times and I'm trying to get a job there and they haven't been in a relationship."
Like he gives this whole shiel about how he's he hasn't been in a relationship and Bella and him had a fling and wants a job with her mom and Bella has been trying to pursue him and she's trying to get her off his back and also get in with his mom by having a girlfriend because he never been committed to anything and so they're scared that he won't commit to New York Times like some something like that. Okay, mind you, we're two chapters into this book and already they're like, "Oh, random girl comes to the bar. Oh, actually uh fake dating. Fake dating. fake dating. So, can you be my fake date to the wedding?
I'm like, huh? Huh? What wedding? What wedding are we talking about? It is his sister's wedding. Never met her yet.
Don't know really much about his family life. We know he has two twin sisters who are like super super young, super nondescript. So, we're two chapters in and we already got the fake dating plot going. I'm like, "Okay, what is happening? What is happening? I don't know these people. We are moving so fast." We just met this girl named Bella. They just met at the bar. They haven't seen each other in four years.
And then they get a one drink at the bar. And now he's like, "Oh, do you want to be my fake my fake dating partner? Do you want to be my fake dating partner?"
Daisy says, "Okay, what what is going on?" Literally, what is going on? I was I was reading this like this has to be written by AI. Like, I'm so sorry. Pretty sure the author puts so much of her energy and her time.
She has such good pros sometimes, especially when it comes to the poems, which I will get into. But in the beginning of the book, everything just happens so fast. I DON'T KNOW THESE PEOPLE AT ALL. AND THEY'RE throwing names at you, which I will also get into the names. Okay, so this is how we start the book off. Two chapters in, he panics, tells this Bella girl that he's fake dating her. And now, boom, we have the plot of the story. these these ex- best friends finally reunite, become friends again because they are fake dating each other. And it is obvious from the beginning of the book that he was always in love with her. You know what? I love that. If there is one thing I love, it's when the girl is pretty oblivious to the guy being so damn bad for her, but you can tell as a reader he's so damn bad. It's giving Love Hypothesis Ali Hazelwood. Like, it's giving um love theoretically Ali Hazelwood. Like I love that trope. I love how much yearning there is in it.
And if this book gives anything, it gives yearning because this man is an A1 year. He wants her so bad. I will give the book that. But let's continue. Okay.
Then we get into all of the festivities that come before this so-called wedding.
They introduce us to a billion side characters that I do not care about and do not know. We go on a little outing.
We'll go to a family dinner with his family and she will reunite with Levi's mom and Levi's twin third grade little sisters. And I do not care about these people at all. They do not tell me a description of what they look like. They do not tell me anything about their personality. They're just like, "Oh, I finally saw Trish again. I finally saw Rehea and blah blah blah." I'm like, "Who are these people? Can you give me like a little description? Can we I do not care for descriptive writing, but at least give me something. You are throwing out names like, "Oh, Gabe and Gia." I'm like, "Who are these people?"
Hold on to that thought. We're already 25% of the way in. There's a bunch of side characters for the wedding. Don't know these people. Don't care about them. don't know a lick about them.
Don't know anything about Sarah, who is the person's wedding that they're going to. They go to these family dinners, and everyone's like, "OH MY GOD, like you guys finally got together. It's been 4 years since you guys saw each other. We knew it was always going to be you two.
We knew that Daisy and Levi were going to be together always." Everyone knows that they're in love with each other except them, right? I get it. I get it.
Miscommunication, yada yada yada. But the miscommunication that is in this book is so so freaking crazy. I have never read a miscommunication trope like this. I get Ali Hazelwood miscommunication cream.
Okay, love hypothesis miscommunication.
That man Adam Carile was so damn bad for her from the beginning and she was just like, "OH, SILLY ME." LIKE I didn't know this girl is so oh my god so oblivious which I get as part of her insecurity but they don't detail her insecurity enough for that to make sense to the book but whatever. She's in fashion school. She's trying to be a little fashion girly. She has projects at school. She has a school adviser and then she has school friends and then they just list out the friends. Oh, it's Shannon and you know I'm just going to make the names up because THEY DON'T EVEN MATTER IN THE BOOK. IT'S LIKE Shannon and Becca and Alyssa and Kenna.
They were all part of my project group and they saw Levi come into the room and they were like, "Your boyfriend is so hot." Girl, we do not know these people.
They keep throwing in names in here and I'm like, I do not care about a single one of them. No description for any of them. They just listing off names. My designated space with her classmates was with Vera and Dia while Sandra, Lexi, and Camille sat at the table beside ours. The rest of the room was pretty messy. There was a spot for the professor to sit in the front. Girl, who the are Vera and Dia while Sandra, Lexi, and Camille, who are they? Okay. Anyway, what does his mom look like? What do his sisters really look like? No descript anywhere at all. I guess it's up to your imagination. And then they go to a softball game with the family. Have a lot of family outings and family dinners and there's a softball game and Bella is there for some reason. I don't know exactly how Bella is related to everybody, but I guess she is. Daisy is so insecure about this Bella girl. They go to like a gala and Bella's there and they finally finally you're like, "Oh my god, maybe these two characters, maybe Levi and Daisy are actually going to speak to each other. Maybe they're gonna actually like admit something to each other. And then they finally kiss. And I'm like, "Finally, finally, finally they kiss." And then she goes, "He only kissed me because she was there." And she looks behind her and it's Bella. And she go gets all in her head. Girl, don't piss me off. Girl, do not piss me off. It's getting to her head. Bella is beautiful and blonde and and gorgeous and I'm just me. He probably really loves Bella. And she keeps asking about this girl, Bella.
This is what she says about Bella. He pied me. I was the stained old dress that couldn't be re-washed any longer and got under the bed. She was the silk gown kept at the front of your wardrobe to be admired. She was beautiful, the embodiment of summer. I'd never be that girl. He's literally fake dating you to get her off his back. What are you talking about? They'll have little conversations. Do you love Bella? Oh, were you in love with her before? I'm like, the only reason he's dating you is to GET HER OFF HIS BACK. LIKE, GIRL, you cannot be so for real right now about this Bella girl because she he literally told you from the beginning that the only reason he wanted to fake date you was to get her off his back. What in the miscommunication is going on?
Like I get being insecure, but I was like, "Girl, be so for real right now.
Be so for real." We find out a little bit backstory. Levi is a TA at another college. He wants to be a teacher. He's an academic. He's like the sexy hot academic guy, okay? And all the girls have a crush on him. He is a TA for a Jane Austin class. Okay. He's a man written by a woman, you know, like cute.
And then we finally finally get the mystery of what happened 4 years ago.
Why did these two people who were so obviously in love with each other, why did they have a falling out? What What happened? What's going on? Let me read it to you. It's prom night. Daisy has a date with Jeremiah. Levi has a date with some other girl. Levi, Daisy, best friends, in love with each other. They won't admit it. Daisy plans it out.
says, "I cannot hold it in any longer. I cannot be friends with Levi any longer.
It hurts too much. I need to tell Levi how I feel. I need to confess that I love him." She writes an entire confession on her phone. Stay with me here. She's drunk. It's prom night. She starts crying in the hallway, crying, crying in the hallway of her high school, panicking because Jeremiah left and took her phone with him. And so that's why she's panicking because her phone has her love confession. And this is where I was like, "This is so nonsensical. I live for the drama. It's so funny." She's in the hallway crying her eyes out. Hey, Daisy. What's wrong?
My eyes opened as if on command at the sound of Levi's voice as he crouched down in front of me.
Jeremiah. Hiccup. I need him. Levi looked takenback. Oh, okay. I can find him. He brushed one more of my tears away before standing up. Another sob left my throat immediately brought him back down to my knees in front of me.
He's not here.
A girl came up to me and said he left early with my phone and it's and then in her head she says with my phone and it's entire romantic confessional contact. I just really need him right now. When I looked up at him and saw sorrow in his eyes, the tears returned. The weight of my desire for him was pressing down on my clavicle. It grew heavier as I watched my plan fall apart. This wasn't how I planned it, but I couldn't endure the weight of my secret any longer. I just really need him right now. In her head, she says, "I love him. I love him.
I love him." She says out loud, "I love him."
Mind you, she's talking to Levi, saying, "I love him. I need Jeremiah. I love him."
She's drunk, by the way. The hand that ran up and down my back paused. Why wasn't he responding? Did he not hear me? My energy was running low from the vodka and crying. I just wanted to crawl into bed and email dad. Editing this and I just want to add if this entire scene is not propaganda for staying sober and for never drinking ever again. I don't know what is because this is a horror story. Imagine drinking vodka, getting drunk, being so incoherent that I'm surprised she didn't even black it out, and then to a point where you break up essentially with your best friend and the love of your life for the next 4 years of your life, misconring your entire relationship. If that is not a horror story for never wanting to ever drink again, I do not know what is. I'm surprised she even drank after this. If she even did. I'm in love with you. I've always loved you. Why wasn't he responding?
I need J.
GIRL, GET THE WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? OH MY GOD.
OH MY GOD. LITERALLY, I Word for word. Where's Jeremiah? I need him. I need him. I love him. I love you.
I love you. Where's he? Where's Jeremiah?
B, I get you're drunk, but you've got to be [ __ ] kidding me. YOU'VE GOT TO BE actually [ __ ] kidding me because what the heck is going on? She's literally drunk and she's p Like this is so nonsensical, is it not? Does this scenario not feel like it's written by AI? Sally Rooney in Normal People couldn't even write this type of miscommunication. Like Ally Hazelwood could not even write this type of miscommunication because what the freak is going on? Did he not hear me? I love him. Girl, he heard you loud anding clear. You said I love him word for word. You said where's Jeremiah? I love him.
This girl gives me a headache.
This girl gives me a headache. First, it's the Bella thing. Next is this. And mind you, she's drunk. And this is such an important moment in her life. Like, she feels like she has to tell she has to tell Levi that she's in love with him and does it when she's drunk. Okay. I don't know why it was so pressing that you had to do it while you were drunk and you had to do it on prom night when both of you have other dates. It's giving red flags. Okay. You couldn't have done it the day after prom when you had your phone back and you were sober and you weren't out on another date with another guy and he wasn't out at the prom with another girl. Like, WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? WHAT ARE WE TALKING ABOUT? OH MY GOD. OKAY, I need to relax.
Like, this is literally a book.
I was literally laughing. I was laughing. So, I was like, "What is going on? What is going on? I'm in love with you. I've always loved you. I need a jare. I sobbed and hiccuped.
His body froze around my weak one. We need to get you home. I'll run outside and pull up the car. Did he not hear me?
I loved him. I'm in love with him. And he had nothing to say. No response or explanation.
Girl, you've got to being kidding me.
I'm going to lose my voice again cuz I lost my voice last week. My first instinct was to push back to tell him he couldn't just walk away from our conversation.
No, I don't want you to take me home.
His eyes widened and he retreated just a step backwards like I had just slapped him.
I had created a line between us that told him I wanted nothing to do with him. Maybe he thought it was because I was drunk, but he must have known deep down why.
Girl, girl, you He must HAVE NO, HE COULD NOT READ YOUR MIND. NO, HE WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN. HE WOULDN'T HAVE KNOWN CUZ he You literally You literally just said, "I don't want you to take me home. I love him. I love him. I love Jer. Where is he? No, don't take me home."
I had I was drunk, but but he must have known DEEP DOWN WHY I HAD TO retreat and not be friends with him anymore.
Oh my god, the headache. The headache that I had while reading this. You cannot being serious.
Oh my god. I'm just thinking about it.
It's like boiling my blood. He nods, resigned. I'll see if Norah can take you home. No, I'll call Jeremiah. Go have a fun night. Fine. Text me when you get home. And with that, he walked away, turning back to glance at me from down the hall. My heart stopped. I whipped my head around, walking a few steps back from the adjacent hallway. My heart cracked. Okay, and this is the kicker of it all. This man is so heartbroken. He thinks that he was just rejected by a girl who says, "I love Jeremiah. I love Jeremiah. I love him. Where is he?"
She's drunk. She's pushing you away.
Literally saying, "No, get off me. I don't want you to take me home. I'm going to go get Nora. He walks away and this couple is so messy. Like so so messy because he immediately makes out with his date in the ballroom.
My heart cracked like a ceramic vase as I found Kora messing kissing Levi. She ran her hands across his chest, whispering his name and touching every dark curl on his head. Levi's hands remained unmoving, snagnet on her hips.
And that broke her heart. My throat tightened and opened just enough for me to breathe. There would be no I'm home text or call tomorrow. There would be no apology email. I couldn't do it anymore.
I couldn't do it anymore.
This was so messy.
Okay. And that is the reason why for 4 years these two people did not say a peep to each other after this day. After this day didn't say a peep to each other. First time they ever saw each other again was 4 years later at the bar. Oh, you want to go go to Shirley's Temple? Goes to the bar. OH. OH. OH MY GOD. RANDOM GIRL. I THAT'S ALSO at the bar conveniently, too. We're fake dating. We're fake dating. What is going on? Genuinely, what is going on? Let's continue because as crazy as this book is, I actually really enjoyed myself while reading it. So, I gave it a three out of five stars because Levi is a A1 urer. The quotes in this were very great, but then also the writing was like, I'm very conflicted about this book. Okay, I get that Daisy is insecure. I understand that that is a thing in the book. I'm okay with miscommunication, but damn. But damn, that was so freaking crazy. I've never read a book with this kind of miscommunication ever. It was just so so nonsensical. It would make sense if they added more to the characters. Like normal people, okay, that relies on miscommunication. And that miscommunication was so awful, too. But we know these characters so damn bad, it makes sense to their characters. This was like, "Oh, I was drunk." And then and he just rejected me. He rejected me.
Are you listening to yourself right now, girl? Are is the is the brain not working? If you at least built the story around Daisy's insecurity, then maybe I'd understand why why she so deeply mistrust the idea that Levi could ever be in love with her. Maybe I understand that she has low self-esteem and that she's talking to this adviser about trying to get into fashion programs in France and other places and this adviser takes advantage of that. I love that secondary plot line. Other than that, I'm like, where does it come from? We don't really get much into her psyche. We only get the insecure parts, but we don't understand the why. Like the character analysis as to what makes her that way. Is it all just relying on this one night where she drunkenly told her high school best friend that she was in love with him and then after that she was just like, "Oh my god, like everyone's rejected me.
Like I'm not worthy." This is what I meant in the very beginning of this video when I said computer play the cure by Olivia Rodrigo. He is not going to be the cure to your problems. Okay, she got a lot of fixing to do for herself and also him too because he never ever he's also a miscommunicator. He never owned up to his feelings either. This character, Daisy, she gives Olive from the Love Hypothesis a run for her money.
The way that this girl miscommunicates so bad. It drives me insane. Like, it drives me up a wall thinking about every single chapter that he is actively yearning for her and she's just like, "Oh, he doesn't love me." Like, he gets her flowers and they're daisies. Mind you, she works at a flower shop randomly and no one ever buys her flowers. I I guess because of that she's like, "Oh, he's only doing that because he's a friend." Girl, girl, I want to like you so bad. I want to like you so bad. She was just so chaotic as a main character. Like so so so chaotic. But let's go on the opposite end of that. Okay, let's talk about Levi because Levi, the male lead in this book, is so swoon. Oh my god, this man is so so swoon worthy. I get the reason why people love this book because he is so so so so so damn bad for her. Just wants to be around her. Will do anything he can to be around her. He is so sensitive. Will do everything for her.
Pick her up. Just want to be in her presence. He's smart. He's thoughtful.
He's sensitive. He's kind. He is like the epitome of written by a woman. He's a great A year. He's up there with Ryan Sheay. And I mean that. And he loves her so quietly, too. It's so cute. I love that. But also not a good communicator.
Both of these characters not a good communicators. Quoting him. What's wrong? I'll take care of it. He said that multiple times in the book. What's wrong? Let me take care of it. Let me fix this. I can fix this for you. Like h panties on the floor. Pants gone. I'll take care of it. I'll fix it for you.
Gone. P everything. The the book is I'm insecure. And that's literally the plot.
Mind you, he's a grade A swooner because he also writes an entire poem published a book of poems all about her and how much he loves her written in French, which she also thinks is the most romantic language ever. And she's always romanticized the idea of someone saying sweet nothings in her ear in French. And he did that. He literally published a book. He says, "I can see what's happening in that head of yours. I know we haven't seen each other in a long time, but I haven't forgotten and I won't let you think another cruel thing about yourself. You are incredible. They would be absolutely senseless to not want you. There is just so many good quotes that I'm like, ooh, that hit.
That was beautiful. Two flowers intertwined because they had grown alongside each other for so long. That is beautiful to me. the imagery visualizing these two besties growing up alongside each other, both of them, and intertwining and their lives are just connected. I love that image. I love that it's based around flowers. That is beautiful. And then we get other quotes that I'm just like, makes no sense. It either works or it really doesn't. Cuz what the does this even mean? This quote, picking my jewelry off like flower petals. I left my rings and earrings on the nightstand.
picking picking my jewelry off like flower petals.
Girl, what what does that even mean?
Picking my jewelry up like flower petals.
Picking my jewelry up like flower petals. It's giving two buckets of river water at midnight. That was from the Shatter Me book in the first in the first book. picking picking my jewelry off like flower petals. WHAT ARE YOU TRYING TO SAY? WHAT IS THAT supposed to invoke in me? What kind of feeling am I supposed to feel when I read picking my jewelry off like flower petals? I left my rings and earrings on the nightstand. Are you saying like you're taking it off very gently? Are you taking it off like, "Oh, he loves me. He loves me not." What the are you talking about? Are you just saying this because it's like a flower metaphor? Anyway, there's a lot of quotes like that, too, where I'm like, "Girl, what what is this? What is this?"
I truly think this couple at the end of the day, based on how crazy bad the miscommunication was, I don't think this couple would work out. We'll see.
Because once everything is out in the open, right, these two super insecure people, then they do communicate and confess how much they love each other.
But Levi had years in high school to tell her how he felt. And in present day as well, he never owned up to his feelings either. He kept that bottled in, too. Like, he pissed me off, too.
Like, we can't pin it all on Daisy over here. We got to pin it on Levi, too.
Because you can tell with the way that this girl is so insecure about herself and compares herself to this rando Bella all the time, thinks that she is unlovable by him. She is for sure insecure. Her love language is for sure worth of affirmation. He'll do that with her. She just won't hear it. It's like talking to a brick wall, but at the same time, he's never fully told her, "I love you." Can you actually give her those words of affirmation, please? Because she has been looking for it for SO LONG.
YOU ARE NOT AFFIRMING HER. YOU ARE NOT AFFIRMING her in the slightest. Hey, computer, play the cure by Olivia Rodrigo. Sometimes the poetry in this book, because there is a book of poems that he writes in French for her, that book is great. I love the images that they give, the yearning that those poems give. And they also start every single chapter with a line from that book of his. So good. Don't even get me started with how bad the miscommunication is as well because he gives her the book for her to read, which is essentially a confession to her about how he feels because the book of poems is called Picking Daisies on Sunday. Hence the title of this book. It's the title of his poetry book. Her name is Daisy. He's picking Daisies on Sunday. Every single poem is obviously written about her.
It's written in French. He's like, "You should read the book." She goes, "Oh, okay." She takes the book. He says, "You should read the book." She puts it in her bag. Oh, I'm not going to read the book because he doesn't want me to read the book. Girl, what? What? Oh my god.
You should read the book. A confession in front of your face. Here. Here's the Here's the book. Oh, he just said he wanted me to read the book because he was pressured because his friend was right there. And he's only giving me the book because his friend was right there.
He doesn't actually want me to read the book. SO, I'M NOT GOING to read the book.
Oh my god.
She has the book on her nightstand, has the book in her bag all the time. It's in French. doesn't even bother to even maybe perhaps look up the title of the book, a translation of the title of the book at all. For the entirety she has the book staring at her in the face. Not once did she ever think, I wonder what that mean. Not even the title. Mind you, this is a man that you think that you're in love with. You're not even curious as to know what the title of the book that he wrote is called. Not even a little Google search before when you heard the first time you ever heard that he wrote a book. You never didn't get permission to know what the book was. Like I just did not make sense to me. How could you just not know the title of the book?
Drives me up a wall. Finally, we are at the 88% mark of the book. 88% of the way through this book and they have not confessed their feelings to each other and it's just been miscommunication after miscommunication about every single little thing.
They kissed once, miscommunicated because oh, she thought it was because Bella was right there. Oh my god.
Finally, 88% of the way through this book, she writes him a letter because she's about to do the thing that she did 4 years ago, she's about to leave this entire situation because she has spent this entire week or months or however long that they've been rekindling this friendship together, falling in love with him again, and she can't stand to be around him anymore. It hurts too much. It hurts too much because she loves him too much and she's going to Paris in 3 months. She's going to accept a letter to go to Paris and it just hurts too much because now she's finally had the chance to kiss him and it's too painful. And so she does the exact same thing, but this time she actually confesses to him. Thank goodness. And says, "I'm in love with you. I've been in love with you. It's too painful to be around you.
Round of applause. Finally. Finally, finally. Mind you, why didn't she do this four years ago? What is the reasoning for 4 years ago? Her ghosting him and not writing him that final letter to say her final goodbye versus today. It's the exact same situation just 4 years later. Why four years ago did you just ghost him? You You are known to send him letters. This has been established throughout the book and you didn't send him a final letter. You just straight up ghosted him after prom night. It felt like she just ghosted him for plot sake as opposed to writing him that final letter and saying, "I can't be friends with you anymore." Ghosted him, which is so much worse. And now what what what's the difference that she is like, "Oh, I'm going to write him a final letter now."
this girl, this girl, this book. Like, it's so nonsensical. Like, the reasons why things happen is just cuz it happens. He reads this letter. She is adamant about not seeing him ever again.
He knocks on her door. Next morning, he holds up the letter. He's like, "What is this?" She's embarrassed. He's embarrassed that she confessed something. If this is not so Gen Zcoded where we need rejection therapy for real because why is every single little thing in our generation like you cannot accept an ounce of rejection? I guess the love was too much and too big to ever feel rejection from him. But it's like put yourself in that embarrassing SITUATION YOU GOT GIRL LIKE SPEAK UP. Oh my god.
Okay. Sorry. I'm just so like annoyed, but like I had fun. I read the whole book. Like just forget it. Forget I wrote anything. He followed inside, shutting the door. What is it then? Do you love me or not? Boy, you two. Levi, I'm pissed at you, too. Because whatever. Don't. I spun around equally upset. Why was he making me relive this letter, this decision? Don't make me say it again. I don't need a repeat of prom night.
He froze. What are you talking about? I stopped on the other side of the living room. Now I was fuming. Oh, now she's fuming. Okay. Okay. What's going to happen? She's fuming. Are you kidding?
You don't remember? You don't remember when I told you I loved you? What are you talking about? He says, "I told you I loved you. I told you I loved you and then you ignored ME AND YOU WENT off and kissed some other girl." I was so livid.
I didn't even care if I sounded irrational. Yeah, girl, you sound irrational. Be so for real. He explains the miscommunication, which Yeah. Yeah.
You were calling out for Jeremiah and he he was just like, I thought you you wanted him and I was being overbearing.
Makes sense on his part. Mind you, she was drunk that night, but he finally is like, "I love you. I love you and you love me. Let's get together. I love you.
You love me. Let's get together and be happy finally. Daisy does piss me off so bad because every single sentence that anybody says, she takes it so to heart.
So so so to heart. Like she needs some internal healing. I need an entire book of her just healing from all this insecurity that she's built up in her head. And like where it even comes from.
Like where did she get this insecurity from at all? Who is this girl? I don't even really know who she is. What kind of designs does she make when it comes to fashion? What does the fashion mean to her? I don't know any of this. And mind you, the only people in this book, everybody around her tells her how oblivious she is. Literally saying, "Oh, girl, that man is so in love with you."
And she's like, "No, he's not. He's not in love with me." Here's an example of how deep this miscommunication grows.
How insecure this insecurity goes. Her best friend, Gabe, one of her best friends. I heard you're going to Paris.
Levi was just talking to Sarah about it.
He seems pretty happy. My heart dropped.
He was happy. My mouth was dry.
Shouldn't your boyfriend be somewhat sad when you're moving across the world? I tried my best to lift the corners of my mouth.
What do you mean? Now they're together.
Like finally, finally, finally, they've resolved all their issues. They're finally together. They're boyfriend and girlfriend. And someone is like, "Oh yeah, I heard you're going to Paris.
Like, your boyfriend is so happy for you." He's happy for me.
Shouldn't he be sad that I'm leaving?
GIRL, BE SO FOR real right now. Be so for real RIGHT NOW. YOUR BOYFRIEND can't be happy for you that you got into an internship or a school that you really so desperately wanted to go to and it's a city that you've always wanted to visit. Like, even though it's bittersweet, like are you saying that you would rather your boyfriend be sad?
Like I am so confused. Why did the first instant that anybody brought up Paris and him being happy? He seemed pretty happy that you were going to Paris, then you're like, he's happy I'm leaving.
Maybe he's happy FOR YOU BECAUSE IT'S SOMETHING THAT you wanted. Can you guys tell me if I am just going crazy or is this utterly so nonsensical? There is not a person I would know in the world that would get so in their feels about every single little sentence or interaction that their significant other goes through like this. What did you expect him to say? Oh, I heard that you Oh, Levi told me that you're going to Paris. He's really sad about it. He doesn't want you to go. I get that. But also, if someone were to say that to her, I wouldn't be shocked if she misinterpreted that to think, "Oh, he's really sad that I'm leaving." Shouldn't he be happy for me because it's something that I've always wanted to do?
She would legit say that. Can he be happy for you because you're going to a school? Like, I'm so confused. Like, why does she misconstrue every single little thing? And then we get into the names because every single character that are not the two main leads, Levi and Daisy, don't care. Literally do not care about them. Don't know a lick about them.
Don't know anything about them. And we're at the end of the book. They're finally together. Issues resolved. Yay.
They finally communicated. And that's how we end the book. After 200, 300 pages of miscommunication and fake dating for no reason.
Fortunately, I wasn't the only nervous one about her project. Sandra, Camille, Lexi, and Vera were all equally as nervous. Who is Sandra, Camille, Lexi, and Vera? Who are these people? I get that they're your classmates, but like, who are these people? And then it gets even worse. This is word for word quote.
They did not spend the entire book building these people up at all, giving them any description at all. in my opinion. Maybe I'm wrong. Maybe I didn't really read between the lines and read the super descriptive writing about any of these huge list of names of people for like this 300page book. Like it's not that big of a book. And the entire book is just them miscommunicating and going on dates with each other. Gabe, Gia, Mom, Mandy, Levi, Rehea, Claire, Trish, Josh, the girls from Book of the Week, and Sandra, Camille, Lexi, and Vera were all sitting in the front row.
So, you're just listing baby names now.
Who are these people? Why are we just listing all these names as if we care about them? Like, I don't care about any of these people at all. I don't know any of these people. Like, you haven't really truly introduced me to any of these people. The only thing I know about Gabe is he goes on Tinder dates and you watch him go on Tinder dates and that sometimes he gives you good advice and you never take it. What is going on?
Seriously, what was this book? It felt like a fever dream reading it. It really did. Okay, final thoughts I wrote was we get finally a look into his POV, into Levi's POV, who was always so damn bad for her the entire book. Love, love, love. Okay, says, "Hey, hey, hey, what's wrong, Daisy? What did I do?" Words were mumbling out. All I can think of was, "How do I stop her crying? How do I take her sadness and make it mine?"
Okay, kind of cute. Kind of cute. Kind of love it. He is really down bad. He will do anything for her. And I love that. I love that about them. But overall thoughts on this book, I gave it a three out of five stars. Wild ride of a book. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed how frustrated it made me. I'm trying to get back into the idea of actually enjoying books to enjoy them and not really critiquing them and nitpicking them.
This was to me, in my opinion, not a good book. It had its great moments.
Every single line of poetry that was in Levi's perspective, every start of a chapter about how much he wanted her was so beautifully written. I loved those parts. And then everything else, I was so takenback by everything that was happening. This might be a huge insult to the author, which I really hope she doesn't see this review. It is kind of harsh to say, but it does feel like it's written by AI. It feels like a crazy story that was just built upon random events happening, random names being put out there, random occurrences, random bouts of insecurity, all melded into one story where it felt like the only solid character we got was Levi. Surprisingly enough, everyone in his life around him didn't care about didn't care about his mom Trish. Didn't care about her dad that died. They make that a thing.
Didn't care about his twin sisters or like him even having to take care of them. They didn't really build up the pressure he felt for that. The friends that she made, they're just calling out random names like, "Oh, like, oh, hi Sandy, Samantha, Erica." Like, are we at graduation right now? Because why are we calling out names like Gabe, Gia, Mom, Mandy, Levi, Rehea, Claire, Trish, Josh, the girls from Book of the Week, and Sandra, Camille, Lexi, and Vera were also what? Very confusing, very jarring read. Miscommunication was so crazy. It actually was funny. I was laughing reading it. I was so entertained. I was so here for the drama, so here for the yearning, and so here for like so nonsensical that it felt kind of like a parody of a book to me. This might be a really unpopular opinion because from what I'm gathering with the discourse around this book, people love this book.
I get why the male lead is a huge year and most of this book is yearning and I got those butterflies in my stomach. I I loved when they're like, "Oh, his hand paused behind my back or his hands tightened or we were so close." Like those instances of tension. Okay, I'll give it to it. They did that really well. They did the yearning and him just wanting to make her happy, just wanting to be around her presence and do anything that she wanted. Like, he would beg and be on his knees just to be in her presence. Like, oh my god, I felt that. I felt that passion. That was so great. He was the perfect male lead in a book that was just so chaotic. But he was also not a perfect male lead because you did not speak up either. Both of these characters. Anyway, those are my overall thoughts on this book. Please, please, please. From what I'm gathering from the discourse, people love it.
People love this book. I gave it a three out of five just cuz I was so entertained. Truly, it's probably two star read. But because I was sat like I read this book under 24 hours, I had to give it another star for that. I was so passionate about what happens in this book. It wasn't boring. This was far from boring. So, that's why I was like, "Oh, yeah. I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying the tea." Thank you so much for watching. Let me know your thoughts. If you've read this book, what you thought about it. Um, I'm so curious to know because I am so passionate and so vividly in my opinion about this feeling such like such a jarring book. people who really resonated with all the side characters. Like, let me know how how you dealt with all that miscommunication. Like, did did the main character to you feel so solid? Did it feel like such a solid character building that you felt like it even made sense for her to doubt every single little thing that anybody said to her? I would love to know it. Seriously, for those of you who like the book, I respect it. We are all entitled to our opinion. I would love to know why you liked it. And yeah, just let me know your thoughts. If you didn't like it, if you agree with me, if you disagree with me, let's hear it. Thank you so much for watching. I love you guys so much and I will catch you in the next one.
