Who Actually Finished the Dome of St. Peter's (It Wasn't Michelangelo)

[00:00:00]So, everyone knows that Michelangelo, or Michelangelo as the Italians love to call him, finished the dome of St. Peter's. [music] Yes, he did design it.

[00:00:07]What he finished was the drum of the dome, this part right here where the columns are and the windows are. But the cupola itself, the dome itself, was unfinished. It was open to the elements for 25 years after he died, only finished adapted by Giacomo della Porta, really following his plans but adding on the height of the dome.
