John Locke argued that individuals possess inherent natural rights to life, liberty, and property that exist independently of government, and that the state's sole purpose is to protect these rights; if a government fails to do so, citizens have the right to resist, establishing the foundation for modern liberal democracy and constitutional governance.

John Locke's Dangerous Argument Against the State #Shorts #PhilosophyAdded:
You have the right to life. You have the right to liberty. You have the right to property.
Today, that sounds obvious, but more than three centuries ago, it was revolutionary.
Then John Locke made one of the most dangerous arguments in political history.
You are not the property of the state.
The ruler does not own you. The government does not give you your rights. You have natural rights before government exists. Life, liberty, property.
And the state exists for one reason, to protect them.
That was Locke's revolution.
Power is not sacred. Kings are not above the people. Government is a contract, and if the government breaks that contract, the people have the right to resist. You can hear Locke in the American Declaration of Independence, in the language of modern human rights, in every constitution that says power must be limited. Hobbes said, "Without a strong ruler, freedom collapses into chaos." Locke answered, "Without rights, power becomes tyranny." That reversal helped create modern liberal democracy.
The ruler does not stand above the people. The ruler serves them.
But Locke's question is still dangerous.
If the state stops defending your rights, do you still have the right to rebel?
Locke said yes, because for him, the most dangerous idea was also the foundation of freedom. Your rights do not come from the state.
