University of British Columbia researchers found that a water-based combination of starch with iron and tanic acid, which again gives tea and wine the bitter astringent taste, creates a thick wash that's highly effective at washing off pesticides. In fact, a concentration of the mixture at just 10 mg per liter of water removed 96% of three common pesticides compared to only half with water, baking soda, or starch.
