[00:00:00]hi there students in this video I want to look at the prefix hypo not hyper hypo because notice hypo and Hyper are opposites so the prefix hypo means under less than below are in the lowest State yeah beneath lower than less than um so for example you could suffer from hypotension where your blood pressure goes down ah and you probably faint or hypertension hypertension where your blood pressure is above normal so hypo is saying below what is normal yeah um okay so hypo you could have for example um a hypocrite okay this this has got this hypo beginning and uh a hypocrite somebody who says something but they don't actually believe this and I think maybe they're real they're real opinions are under or below are what um what they really say yeah um I guess if somebody is hyper critical they are criticizing everything even the tiniest little thing yeah um okay so or for example hypodermic yeah a hypodermic syringe the needle Goes Under the Skin hypo under um or hypoxia hypoxia is when you don't get enough oxygen yeah you can die from hypoxia you know you where you can't breathe or there there isn't um enough uh oxygen for you you've got a hyponym a hyponym is a word that is more specific it's a word that's in a general class of things so for example um Azure or is a hyponym of blue because blue there are many different types of blue so it's a word that's underneath the general classification Scarlet Crimson Rose these are all hyponyms of red yeah um okay I guess um okay so yeah uh for example um hi uh the hypotenuse well I'm not sure is yeah I guess that if you have an angle this is the one that is underneath yeah um a hypothesis maybe this is something that's uh the basis for the theory that comes below so it's something under but be very careful not to um confuse hypo with Hyper yeah because they are complete completely uh opposite they're complete opposites to each other yeah you could also use this word uh well he went hyper he went crazy yeah he went hypo he just stop moving yeah hypothermia hypothermia this is where you get extremely cold where your body temperature is below the normal and you can die from hyper hypothermia it's not hyperthermia hypothermia is where you get really really really hot so that is hypothermia yeah it's bit below what is expected yeah so um hypo yeah your if your blood sugar is very low yeah you could have a hypo attack where you feel very ill you know this is something that happens to um diabetics yeah where the blood blood sugar level is very is very very low it's below what it what it should be okay so hypo less than and don't confuse it with hyper um let's see I think the words with hypo something if you give the full word then uh this is pro these are normally quite formal words on on the upper side of the formal scale 6.56 upwards if you just say hypo on its own yeah this is rather informal you can also use a hypo for a hypodermic needle yeah um okay as to origin okay this comes directly from uh ancient Greek hupid uh uh sorry uh no that's hyper yeah hypo um also though comes from ancient Greek um meaning below what is below what is normal yeah um so enough if you enjoyed the video give it a rating subscribe to my channel and I will see you soon bye for now hypo not hyper
