Trump’s blunt focus on geopolitical leverage cuts through the complex theories favored by the intellectual elite to address the raw reality of energy prices. It is a pragmatic take that prioritizes the immediate economic impact on consumers over academic nuance.

President Trump speaks about gas pricesAdded:
Iran has reportedly sent a revised peace proposal for the United States as pressure is mounting over Congress' role in the war. As national correspondent Matt Galliker reports, the president sent letters to lawmakers saying that the ongoing ceasefire means he does not need their authorization to continue military operations.
They want to make a deal, but I don't I'm not satisfied with it.
>> The president throwing cold water on the latest Iranian offer. The proposal coming as Trump sent letters to Congress saying he considers the war terminated and didn't need lawmaker approval to potentially continue the conflict.
>> Nobody's ever sought it before. Nobody's ever asked for it before. Uh it's never been used before.
Why should we be different?
>> Under federal law, presidents have 60 days to respond to threats with military force and then need to withdraw troops or get congressional approval. Is the president intending to either seek congressional authorization for the war in Iran or send us the legally required certification that he needs an additional 30 days to remove US forces from the war? We are in a ceasefire right now, which our understanding means uh the 60-day clock pauses or stops in a ceasefire.
>> The deadline comes as Americans are increasingly questioning the war. A new Washington Post ABC News Ipsos poll shows more than 60% of Americans think military action in Iran was a mistake.
And while nearly 80% of Republicans think strikes were the right move, only 46% think it's been a successful effort so far with another 46% believing it's too soon to tell. While the timeline gets debated, the US naval blockade cutting off Iranian shipments in the Strait of Hormuz continues. It cut off Iran's ability to sell oil mainly to China via the waterway, severely limiting money coming into the country.
The question is for how long are they willing to endure this pain uh before coming to the negotiating table with a a different set of of red lines and demands? A statement from Iran's supreme leader Mostafa Khamenei Thursday vowed to protect the country's nuclear and missile capabilities along with control of the strait. President Trump told reporters Friday the US still has the option to quote blast the hell out of them or make a deal. Reporting in Washington, I'm Matt Gelka.
One of America's Gulf allies is signaling that it will not accept Iran's new proposal in the ongoing war with the United States and Israel. The United Arab Emirates presidential advisor says that Iran cannot be trusted to uphold its end of any agreement to reopen the Strait of Hormuz. He also criticized Iran for what he called treacherous aggression against all of its neighbors.
Iran fired on multiple US bases in Gulf states in response to the initial US and Israeli air strikes. That was back in February.
You know, as talks of a peace proposal continue here at home, people are feeling the effects of this war much harder. The cost of gas is as at a high not seen in almost half a decade. After sliding down slightly for nearly 2 weeks last month, the national average shot up almost 30 cents over the last few days according to AAA. These increases were especially tough for workers who use their cars to get products from point A to B. Now, despite the increase, President Trump says the price of oil will come tumbling down.
It's going to come down lower than what it was. It's going to come tumbling down. There is so much oil out there.
It's pent up.
Locked up in the Strait of Hormuz. When all of that stuff comes out, you're going to see prices dropping on gasoline like you've never seen. As soon as this ends, those prices are going to drop.
Well, since the war began in February, the president has been reassuring Americans that oil prices would go down as soon as the war ends. Two months in and the pressure on wallets is intense.
Here in California, the average gallon of gas is $4.39, which is up 33 cents from a week ago.
Fresno County, the average is inching closer to $6 at $5.98. But in the meantime, commuters will have to deal with paying more at the pump.
