Long Haul COVID & the Nervous System: Why You're Still Sick and How to Heal本站添加:
Why are we still talking about long COVID like it's viral persistence, especially when you've maybe had symptoms for 2 years?
And yes, maybe there's a viral or pathogenic influence, but what we're not talking about enough is the nervous system and the part that plays.
I have worked with lots of people who have had long COVID symptoms for 2 years or more, and they have been doing everything the antivirals, diet changes, supplements, and yet they're still stuck. And they're uh honestly afraid of the pathogens as if that is the core problem. If this is you, I would argue that this is not a viral problem anymore. This is a nervous system that is stuck in survival mode.
And survival mode means that your immune system is dysregulated, your detox system is dysregulated. You get stuck in something called an ongoing cell danger response where you have kind of a war going on immunologically as if there was an acute infection and your body is responding as if that's still happening, but it's not. It's uh the system that never got the signal the war is over, the pathogen has passed, and now we need to repair, rebuild, and come back into homeostasis. There's a lot of emerging science coming out around mitochondrial issues, microglial activation, and I would also argue that this all fits into the autonomic nervous system category of being out of balance. And so, some of us get off the viral uh train and get on the mitochondrial train, but we're still missing one of the elephants in the room, which is your autonomic nervous system because trying to shift your mitochondrial while your system is still getting threat messaging, um and that's that's not just psychologically, it's literally a biological ongoing system signal that happens in the body. These things need to be addressed. And what I have found is that the cool thing is we have a way to address that with our consciousness, with doing nervous system practices, with um watching the perspectives of how we interact with life that can shift us all the way down into that cellular mitochondrial level.
Um so maybe you won't need to take all the expensive peptides and supplements ongoing trying to come out of this if you were to take the time to address your own autonomic nervous system using nervous system protocols like we have in Primal Trust. I do want to say this, you cannot supplement your way out of a nervous system problem. I know because I've tried and I have thousands of people in my community that have tried.
Yes, you can support your body, you can put a band-aid on a woo a wound that uh is not healing with supplements. You can help encourage processes to happen. But ultimately, if you are stuck in this long COVID state, you need to be addressing your nervous system and no supplement is going to be able to fully biohack that for you.
So, what do you do?
First of all, I would say to stop stressing. I know I relate to the person who is like, I am doing everything right and I'm frantically researching and trying to figure out maybe a different supplement, a different diet, a different protocol, different biohack device.
If that is you, you kind of need to stop all of that. The first step is just like, okay, this path of obsessive trying to figure it out isn't working and it's becoming very expensive.
So, it's usually a sign that there's something that you're not addressing. If you have been spending a lot of money on the best of the best with integrative medicine protocols, things like that, and you're stuck and you haven't addressed the nervous system or maybe you have done a little bit but not a lot. This is a wake-up call to uh take a a full stop and redirect your efforts into your into your own body differently.
Um so, let's talk about that. Okay. So, first of all, what I'm not saying is that uh your stress is what necessarily made this happen. Like, sometimes that big pathogen exposure can be the thing that tipped you over the edge to cause you to get stuck in the state. However, there was probably a way that you were living that was the perfect setup for getting stuck in long COVID or things like that.
And that's really what I'm addressing here. The nervous system, the way that you uh approach life, the perspectives you have with life, if you tend to overreact, if you tend to stay really triggered after an event, if you tend to ruminate and worry, those are signs that you are not giving your nervous system the signal that the war is over, that it's safe to heal. And when we have an additional trigger like a pathogen like COVID or mold exposure or something like that that comes in, it can often be too much for the nervous system to recover from on its own without you directly impacting your own nervous system state.
There's a whole science behind this called the cell danger response. And I have other videos on uh on here all about the cell danger response, and it's also inside of my community. But that's really going to help give you some framework behind why maybe your body hasn't been able to come out of this chronic uh stuck cycle. So, what to do?
You have to start with recognizing any way that you might be encouraging stressful thoughts to be causing your limbic system to create creating a cascade of stress chemistry.
Meaning, how am I thinking and reacting on a daily basis that could be contributing to this cellular shutdown, to this mitochondrial uh suppression, to this immune confusion that's happening post-COVID. And what can I do differently as far as my thoughts, feelings, and reactions to shift my stress response state. So, again, we have practices where we help you catch these kind of thinking, these these habits.
Um how are you reacting to the symptoms of in your body? How are you reacting to the fatigue, to the fact that yeah, the situation has been ongoing? Are you in a lot of resistance, in a lot of fear, in a lot of like, "Oh my gosh, what's going to happening what's what's going to happen in the future?" As hard as this is, that is it's not helpful to continue to do that. In order to come out of this long COVID, we have got to come we have got to arrive into the parasympathetic rest and digest state, which means you've got to have the sense of okayness. And this is so counterintuitive when you've been sick, especially with long COVID. You've got to be able to spend time in quiet reflection. You've got to be able to spend time nourishing your body, laughing in supportive community, showing your whole nervous system that you are safe, you are supported, you have good things in your life. So, if you are burning it at both ends, if you are high-functioning, overachieving when you really don't have the gas in your tank, if you're stressing all the time about your kids or your symptoms or whatever, uh these things are not helping you.
They are not helping you move out of the ongoing cell danger response, and it's going to be really hard, like I said, you cannot supplement your way, your nervous system out of this. You can't be living in this stressful mindset, um avoiding uh processing your symptoms, avoiding emotional reactions, and just taking the latest biohack, the the latest supplements to get better.
It doesn't work that way. I know, like I said, I tried it for a decade to heal with my own own stuff. And even now, like I had a little bit of long COVID because I was going through a couple years ago, going through a lot a lot of stress. I was traveling, I got sick, I had this relationship thing.
I had to stop. I had to slow down my work. I had to process what was going on in order to move out of it.
Um and yeah, a lot of times it's it's going to directly affect, for example, your blood sugar regulation and things like that. While people are talking about blood sugar regulation as part of the long COVID treatment, your nervous system, again, is is a big part of how I regulated my blood sugars was the way I was interacting with my life. It wasn't just diet. Diet alone wasn't doing it. I had to take time to calm, to pause. So, first things first, what would you start with? I would start in the morning making sure that you're not getting out of bed like, you know, just rushing. You want to show your nervous system that you have a peaceful, pleasant day ahead.
So, make sure that you are doing nourishing, pleasant things first thing in the morning for the first half hour to an hour. I would get outside, I would look at the sun, spend a few minutes sun gazing. It's actually really good for your circadian rhythm. Make a cup of tea and journal. And really try to process what might be happening in your life.
Take a moment to just simply feel.
Meditate if you can or just stare at a beautiful tree and feel what's in there.
And get in touch with what might be inside of me that I'm not processing.
That would be a way to start. Starting with a gentle walk, some stretching. How can you shift the way you're living to send signals of safety, support, um and being deeply nourished? So, that's my spiel with COVID and again, if you are out there like afraid of getting it and you are living this mindset of stress and fear and protection, it's like a magnet for getting it, >> [laughter] >> okay? So, you've got to find a way to live with a sense of inner resilience, a sense that you are supported and if you are stuck in long COVID, I highly recommend you look into some type of nervous system platform like obviously Primal Trust.
