DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is a hormone formed from testosterone through the 5-alpha reductase enzyme that can cause hair follicle miniaturization in genetically sensitive individuals, leading to pattern hair loss; while DHT blockers like finasteride and dutasteride can slow hair loss and promote regrowth in early stages, they require long-term use and should be combined with proper medical guidance, as effectiveness depends on follicle sensitivity and treatment stage.

DHT Blockers for Hair Fall (HX-RVHT) | DHT Hair Loss Explained | Finasteride vs DutasterideAdded:
You have applied oils. You have tried all the home remedies.
Still no change. Same situation.
>> Yes. What's next?
Let me tell you something new. DHT blockers to stop your hair loss.
Whenever we hear about hair loss, one name always comes up that is DHT. And now everywhere people are talking about DHT blockers. Some say natural options have no side effects. Some say only medicines work. Every product, every video, every comment section, block DHT and your hair fall will stop. And in all this, we just stay confused. What exactly is DHT? How is it linked to hair loss? And does blocking it really stop the hair fall? The confusion is normal because there's too much contradictory information all over the internet. Some talk in scientific terms while others make miracle claims. So today, let's keep it simple. we will understand what DHT actually is and its role in the hair loss.
[music] See, hair loss is not just a surface problem. It is a biological process where our hormones, genetics, and scalp health all play a part together. [music] Among all of these, you must have heard the name DHT [music] on social media, in hair care videos or from a friend who might have started experiencing hair fall.
[music] But most people only know one thing that DST causes hair fall. How does it cause it? Why does it happen? Why usually some people get more affected while some people don't get affected at all. This part is the most confusing and usually has the least information of all. So today we will understand DST in simple language.
I'm not going to give you a medical lecture. Uh I'm just going to give you a science-based understanding so you can understand better [music] the reasons behind your hair fall. By the end of this video, you will have a clarity on what DHT is, how is it formed and what it does to your hair follicles that may lead to badness. We will also understand why DHST does not affect everyone in a similar way. The goal of this entire discussion is simple to take you from confusion to clarity. So let's begin.
First, exactly what is DHT? So DHT is a hormone dihydrotestosterone.
It is formed from testosterone through an enzyme called five alpha reductase.
When we are young, DHT has an important role. It helps in voice deepening, muscle growth and development of body hairs during our puberty. But later in some people, the hair follicles on the scalp become sensitive to DHT. As a result, DHT gradually shrinks these hair follicles. hair becomes thinner, growth slows down and eventually new hair stops growing. So this process is called androgenic alopeescia also termed as pattern hair loss. Now the important point to note here is that DHT is present in everyone's body. However, the genetic sensitivity determines whether the DHT will cause hair loss or not. So now [music] the most common question is if DHT is the problem, will blocking it bring the hair back? Well, the answer is not that simple. DHT blockers can slow down the hair loss and in some cases even promote [music] regrowth. If hair loss is at an early stage where follicles are still alive but just weakened, blocking out these DHTs will help them to regrow. Their shrinking slows down and some of the follicles may return back to the growth phase. But if the hair loss is advanced and the follicles are already dead and the scalp looks shiny, then expecting a miracle regrowth is just unrealistic. In such cases, the DHST blockers will just slow down the progression of hair loss, but it cannot bring the lost hairs back.
Also, remember, DST blockers are a long-term therapy, not just a quick fix.
Results take at least 3 to 6 months to show. Consistency is very important because once you stop, the DHT levels will rise again and the hair fall may restart.
>> [music] >> See the hair follicles present in our scalp have tiny receptors through [music] which the DHT sends signals.
When DHT starts binding to these receptors excessively, this disrupts the growth cycle of our hairs and as a result the follicles start to shrink gradually and the [music] growth phase of the uh follicle is shortened and after some time they go into a dormant state. So this process is [music] called androgenic alopeescia or in simple terms male pattern badness. Now here is an interesting point. DHST itself is not the enemy. In fact it is present in all human bodies. The difference lies [music] in response. In some people the follicles are highly sensitive to the DHT while in others they are completely resistant. Now that this is clear let's understand how the DHT affects the natural hair growth cycle.
Each follicle in your scalp works like a mini factory and follows a specific growth cycle with three main phases.
Anogen phase that is the growth mode.
This is the longest phase where the follicle actively produces hair. It usually lasts 2 to 6 years. Kaggen phase [music] transition mode. This is a short resting point where the follicles pause temporarily. It usually lasts from 2 to 3 weeks. Telogen phase rest mode. In this phase, the old hair sheds and makes way for new hair. This lasts around 3 to four months. When everything is balanced, this cycle runs smoothly. New hairs grow, old hairs fall, and [music] sufficient scalp coverage is maintained.
But when DST becomes overactive, this disturbs the cycle. DHST [music] binds to the hair follicle and sends a signal to shorten the growth phase. And as a result the anogen phase [music] becomes shorter and the tilogen which is the resting phase becomes longer. So hair falls faster and it does not get enough time to grow. Over time this process repeats and with every cycle hair gradually becomes thinner and weaker.
[music] This is the long-term effect of DHT overactivity. And one important thing this process is slow. So it will not create a bad patch overnight but if ignored the chances of follical recovery keeps reducing over time.
[music] Also like I told you earlier DST does not affect everyone [music] in the same way. Some people experience more hair loss while others don't see any impact at all. [music] So why does this happen?
Let me explain it to you. It is natural to think if DST is present in all human bodies, why doesn't everyone lose hair?
Some people start noticing hair fall and receding hair lines starting from their early ages say 25 years while others can maintain [music] a good thick volume of hair even after the age of 50 years. This is where genetic sensitivity comes into play.
Every person's scalp does not respond [music] to the DHT signals in the same way. But before that let's [music] understand what the response actually means. So your hair follicles work like small factories that continuously produce hair. [music] And for this process to continue smoothly, three things are needed. Proper blood flow, proper nutrient supply, proper oxygen supply, and a healthy cell activity.
[music] What happens is the tiny receptors present on your hair follicles identify the DHTs. [music] And when these DHTs bind to these hair follicles, the cycle of hair growth gets disturbed.
Blood flow reduces which means less of the nutrient supply, less of the oxygen supply to the [music] hair follicles.
Cell activity slows down. The hair forming cells generate less energy and the follicles start becoming weaker.
Inflammation also increases. The scalp micro environment becomes unhealthy and the growth signals [music] are unable to perform their functions effectively. The result of all this is that the follicle starts shrinking.
The hair becomes thinner and the follicles go into a sleep mode. This process is called follicular miniaturization. Now the question is why doesn't this happen to everyone equally?
Simple. The sensitivity level of these receptors is different from person to person. If the receptors are highly sensitive, even the normal DHT levels can make the follicles overreact. But if the receptors are more resistant, even the higher levels of DHT won't have much impact. That is the reason badness runs in families. [music] If your father, maternal grandfather or their brothers have had hair falls, then chances of your follicles being genetically sensitive to DHT are also higher. You may have noticed the thinning usually starts from the [music] crown area and the hairline first and the sides and the back of our scalp are comparatively safer. That's because the DHT receptors in those follicles are more resistant and that is exactly the reason why hair transplants are done by harvesting the graphs from the back and sides of the scalp. So in simple words, the game is not about how much DHT you have. It is all about how much your follicles are reactive to the DHT.
Now that you understand how the DHT affects your follicles, the next logical step is to understand how to control its impact. [music] See, the DHT also has some essential functions in the body. So the goal should not be to completely block the DHT but to balance its effects. According to science, some proven medical treatments are available like finasteride and dutisteride which [music] blocks the five alpha reductase enzyme. Along with that, some therapies like PRPS, minoxidil, micro needling help maintain the follical activity. But one important thing to remember is that these are powerful medications and are not suitable for everyone. Some people might notice side effect. Therefore, these medications should only be started under the guidance of an specialist doctor. Also the decision to combine these medication should be also done under a doctor's advice because every scalp and their sensitivity level is different.
Now let's move ahead and talk about a very common misconception. People often talk about that DHT is only a male issue. But is that true? Well, not really. Females also have DHS just at lower levels. But in cases of PCOS and other hormonal disturbances, the levels of DHT can increase and [music] may trigger a female pattern hair loss. In females, the hair thinning is generally diffused, meaning the hair density across the scalp starts getting reduced especially in the crown and the mids scalp regions. If you feel your hair fall is more than usual, then your first step should not be self remedies. It should be a professional consultation.
And one more important thing to remember, most quick fixes or miracle oils that you see over the internet only work at a surface level. Hair loss is usually the result of an internal imbalance. Therefore, the permanent solution lies in addressing the root cause.
If you genuinely want to control your hair health, the safest first step is to seek an expert [music] guidance.
Starting treatment without a proper diagnosis can sometimes worsen the condition. The good news is managing [music] DST impact is possible. Science today offers practical solutions be it doctor prescribed medical treatments or nutritional or natural support. Taking the right step in the right direction is the long-term solution. So now there's no need to see DHT as a mystery hormone.
Understand it, observe it, and [music] take action with the right guidance. But controlling your hair health is possible. You [music] just need correct information and timely decisions.
Saw palmetto is one of the most popular DST blockers. It contains fatty acids and phytosterols which partially block the five alpha reductase enzyme. In a 2002 clinical study, nearly 68% of the patients showed visible improvement with the use of saw palmetto. In another study conducted in 2012, nearly 38% of the patients in the saw palmetto group showed visible improvements especially in the vertex area. However, it is not as strong as finestide. But [music] for people looking for a natural root, this can be a balanced option. Pumpkin seed oil or the PSO is another natural option as [music] a DHT blocker. It contains phytosterols and zinc which together provide mild DHT blocking effect. A study by the National Institute of Health showed 76 males suffering from male pattern badness showed [music] a 40% increase in their hair counts after taking 400 mg of pumpkin seed oil daily [music] for 24 weeks. Moreover, if you want to try it, you can take it in a capsule form or you can add it to your diet. But yes remember don't expect overnight results. The next usually common natural component is green tea extract. [music] It contains EGCG which inhibits the activity of five alpha reductase enzyme and [music] also reduces the oxidative damage of the hair follicles.
Apart from these [music] there are some other supportive agents as well. That said, now we have well understood about the natural DHT blocker agents available.
Well, in case of a medical DHST blocker, the evidence is definitely the strongest. [music] Natural options provide mild support, but if you want visible regrowth and greater control over your hair loss, this category becomes very crucial. Finasteride 1 mg oral. This is one of the most common and clinically proven medication [music] for a pattern hair loss. Talking about how it works, that's actually simple. It inhibits type 2 5 alpha reductives enzyme [music] which helps in lowering the DHT levels in our body by 60 to 70%.
[music] And in many cases, visible regrowth is also seen especially in the vertex or crown area. And yes, you might have probably heard about the side effects associated with the use of penestride, [music] especially the sexual side effects. But understand this clearly, there's no need to panic just by hearing about them.
According to actual data, the incidence rate is just 2 to 4%. And in most cases, these effects are reversible once the medicine is discontinued. [music] Still, if you are planning fertility or have sensitive health issues, you need to consult with your doctor first before starting with the medication. In case you want to understand this topic in more details, you need to click on the I button and watch this video. We have another medicine which works as a DHT blocker that is dutisteride. [music] It is given as.5 mg oral. While finestide blocks only the type 2 5 alpha reductase enzyme, the doteststeride blocks both type 1 and type 2 5 alpha reductive enzyme. This means that DST levels are reduced more effectively. In some studies, the DHST reduction has [music] been seen up to 80 to 90% after the use of dutestasteride. And this is exactly the reason why some people experience better hair regrowth and better hair thickness with the use of dutyide. [music] Next, another effective and easily available optional shampoo 1% to 2%.
Most people use it only for dandruff, but the reality is it [music] can help both with the scalp health as well as hair loss management. [music] It is an antifungal shampoo which helps control mild inflammation and excess oil production over the scalp. It [music] provides an additional DHT blocking effect at the scalp level. But also remember kakinosol is not a standalone cure. It is a supportive therapy.
If you are already using fenestride or natural DHT blockers then kakinosol shampoo can be an safe and effective combination support. So far we have understood both the natural as well as the medical DHT blockers. But for best results we need to be smart. DHT blockers are a foundation therapy. They help protect the follicles but for visible improvement parallel maintenance is equally important. When we talk about timeline expectations, shedding during the first 1 to 3 months can be normal.
[music] From third month to 6 months, hair loss will gradually slow down. Between [music] 6 to 12 months, noticeable density improvement can usually be seen.
And also remember this is a continuous therapy, not just a one-time treatment.
[music] So next time when you hear about DST blockers, don't just focus on the hype. Remember the fact if you found this video helpful make sure to like, share and let us know in the comment section which stage of the hair fall you are currently [music] at. Also tell us in the comments which city are you watching this video from. Take care and remember hair loss control is possible.
You just need the right direction.
