[00:00:00]All >> [music] >> right. Hello everyone. Welcome back to the book graveyard. We got a book haul today. We're getting we're getting old school. I got the lapel mic on. I'm down on the floor. Uh it's a rainy thunderstorm Saturday outside. So, I'm probably just going to record this, put it right out. Little edits as possible.

[00:00:23]Uh, first things first, if you watched the live stream last night, the EES live stream where we talked the shadow stalker, the spirit stalker, Nina Romberg, um, with my buds Jake from Paul Mortm and Tim from Secret Fire Books. And our special guests were Alex from the Bookubis and Will Ericson. We had a big long conversation about that book. I'll put a link for it in case you [music] missed it. Want to go check it out. It was a lot of fun.

[00:00:56]And yeah, so let's uh look at these books. This technically this should be the June haul, but it's June and July because I'm just going to put them together because Pulfest is going to have its own book haul, and I don't want to just do book haul after book haul.

[00:01:10][music] So, this first this first box of books was sent to me from Chris from Goat Frenzy, the Goat Frenzy man here on YouTube in the comment section. [snorts] And I'm I'm pretty sure that he drew this, right? Did you, Chris?

[00:01:31]Pretty cool. He sent his actual drawing.

[00:01:35]He took the time to make, wrote me a nice little message on the back. And we're going to send uh Chris some books.

[00:01:42]He sent me some killer stuff here. And all he requested was some some gothic, some Foo Manchu. And I got a another one for him here, a [music] spy book.

[00:01:53]But I'll get to it. I I'm I'm doing it.

[00:01:55]I'm working on it. It takes me forever to do anything, including getting to these books. So, here we go. Here's one that I took a picture of and showed on my in the post area. I don't know what it's called, [music] but Flashbait. Look at that new English library. We actually got quite a few New English libraries in this hall, which I'm very happy about. So, there we go.

[00:02:27]So, that is that's [snorts and clears throat] amazing right there alone. This alone, just if I just got this book, I'd be so damn happy. And then he also sent me an edge book. I have not had a lot of luck finding edge books here in Ohio.

[00:02:43]So, I was very happy to get that. I still haven't read one. Which number is this? Is are they numbered?

[00:02:50]This is also an English library. $10,000 American.

[00:02:55]So, I don't see a number on there.

[00:02:59]So, I don't know. And then this is incredible because this So, I have a want list and it's very short. I don't usually write stuff down. I just like finding stuff randomly.

[00:03:10]But I was watching David Books and Comics, who if you haven't seen it, he supplies like 90% of my want list. Like his he has the the coolest collection as far as I'm concerned, like the stuff that I'm into.

[00:03:26]And he made a video about this series of books. And I was like, "Oh my god, I got to find it." But they're so rare and expensive. And I was very surprised to open this box and see it right there. The girl factory.

[00:03:42]So this is a espionage series. They manufactured the world's deadliest secret agents. And not only that, but it's a UK edition, too.

[00:03:54]Wow. Mr. Gor Frenzy coming through.

[00:03:59]How about I read the back? Sue Kin Sue Lin Kelly, the beautiful wealthy play girl who headed a global espionage network inherited from her husband, took on the job. I'll try and hold up the front there.

[00:04:15]Sulin, trained in the arts of the ancient east, oriental fighting, and the Kama Sutra brought a murderous skill and sexual prowess to her work, which made her almost unbeatable.

[00:05:09]So Tom used to put out this magazine Carp [music] No, which is like a uh a dark dark gothic horror dark fantasy stuff. Uh but it was like a art an art fzine. Look, a t-shirt. Somebody sent me a t-shirt. That's not something that happens often.

[00:05:41]little postcard there. So, yeah, go check out Tom's channel. Go subscribe, follow him. Uh Tom was a used to write for Fangoria and uh he's an author himself. So, he sent me some of his books.

[00:06:00]So, we got No Flesh Shall Be Spared.

[00:06:04]This is about zombie gladiators.

[00:06:08]Right up our alley. And uh on the back of the book, he's got plugs from Clyde Barker, which is incredible. And Craig Spectre.

[00:08:16]This is one we didn't have. So, that's good. I like that cover. How is he Look at He's He's not carrying her over his shoulder. It's in his armpit.

[00:09:06]Earl Stanley Gardener. This is a series that Jeff from Jeff's Cave with Cool Books always talks about and I had actually pulled one out, put it on the TBR.

[00:09:17]I wanted to check it out cuz Jeff speaks so highly of it.

[00:09:23]I got an HG Wells First Men in the Moon. The only HG Wells that I've read is The Island of Dr. Maro, which isn't I mean I guess it's kind of science fiction. It's more I think it's more horror. So I haven't read any of HG Wells science sci-fi.

[00:09:46]So now we got that and the Carians Norman Spinrad. Another great cover there.

[00:09:55]Cracking the egg. [music] Send me ca candy.

[00:10:01]Candy is a erratic. It's an old sleazy paperback that was quite famous.

[00:10:16]The Shores of Another Sea by Chad Oliver. I like this gorilla head man. Gorilla head.

[00:10:29]And then he sent these books for my wife cuz uh you know I've mentioned her book interests and they are along these lines. Brave monsters of the movies. She loves the classic monsters and horror movies are her favorite.

[00:10:46]So this is awesome.

[00:10:49]And then this is a very beautiful book.

[00:10:53]And uh yeah, you really made her day, Tom, when you sent her this hauntings, Tales of the Supernatural, edited by Henry Mazio. Drawings by Edward Gory.

[00:12:15]My wife absolutely loves Edward Gory, so she's very happy, very happy with that.

[00:12:28]Up next, I picked up one book. Trying not to buy too many right now with Pulp Fest [music] coming up, but uh Belle Booking Comic down the street for me.

[00:12:46]Roberty Eye Howard. So these are uh fight stories.

[00:12:52]So this is an illustrated edition.

[00:13:10]Oh, I've never taken the cover off, so I didn't know that was there.

[00:13:34]So yeah, this is a short story collection of Dennis the Dennis Doran characters fight stories. And this also has illustrations in it all throughout.

[00:14:24]I got another I got a I got an unexpected package in the mail. And this one is from Jim from Mystery and Mayhem.

[00:14:34]If you're not subscribed to Jim's channel, he talks classic mystery and hard-boiled fiction.

[00:14:40]He talks uh some westerns to Roberty Howard, but his central focus is uh crime and mystery and and yeah, so he found these Edward S. Arenss editions, Million-Dollar Murder, you know, I love Edward S. Sarin's author of the assignment series. And uh he sent me two of these McFad and Bartell editions that I've never seen. Death is my shadow and the art studio murders.

[00:15:15]I love that. I love that cover.

[00:15:20]And then he sent me one sle book. Twin Taboss.

[00:15:28]Cover it up. And just in case you haven't read that that little blurb at the front, why don't I go ahead and read that off? He learned about sex [music] from servants, practiced with the kids at school, and yearned for a girl whose skin was dark.

[00:15:45]Oh, what is going on here? Twin taboo.

[00:15:51]So funny. uh to look back on this stuff from one of the years from 1963 like ooh this is so dirty.

[00:16:08]So, I'm assuming that he is a young man, that the the kids at school were his age because that would be the wrong kind of taboo if it was not that way. So, thank you very much, Jim. I really appreciate this. Super amazing.

[00:16:30]Then it wouldn't be a book haul. We didn't get a package in from King Allen.

[00:16:36]Long live the king. Uh, he sent me this dope menace. These are all paperbacks having to do, how do they say it? The sensational world of drug [music] paperbacks.

[00:16:54]So, we got some some sleazy stuff there.

[00:16:59]I'm sure that there's a picture of Junkie in here. It's probably like the first picture.

[00:17:12]I don't think I have any. Yeah, there's the chip right there. Right at the beginning. Giant image of uh William Sboro's Junkie, which if you ever see that book out, the original, it is worth lots of money.

[00:17:35]So, I don't think I have any of these books.

[00:17:39]Look, even it goes back to the history.

[00:17:48]We got some Alistister Crowley there.

[00:17:52]I've read a bunch of his books and he definitely was a drug fiend.

[00:17:57]Oh man, dope noir. Okay, I'm just like flipping through this whole book. So, obviously I'm very excited about that.

[00:18:05]He sent me this paperback. He Dude, he sent me a picture. He's like, "Do you want this?" And I saw it and I was like, "Hell yes, I want that. I've never seen that before. I just figured it was some kind of bootleg executioner."

[00:18:19]And then shows up. I I read the back and it's it's a uh true true life tale uh autobiography of Jack Burbridge who is mafia adjacent uh small time hood who uh did some time in prison and then found the Lord and now this is his story of him finding Jesus after being an enforcer.

[00:18:50]It has a intro by It has an intro by Pat Boon.

[00:18:58]So, are we looking forward to that? I don't know if I would put it that way exactly.

[00:19:03]And then he sent this amazing stack of a cult books uh for my wife, which is incredible. This is her favorite thing in the world and uh something that I know very little about, so I can't really talk too [music] much on it. It's a picture book of devils, demons, and witchcraft.

[00:19:25]I do like that kind of artwork.

[00:19:39]The rights of modern occult magic.

[00:19:43]This is stuff straight out of the love witch.

[00:19:50]The demon demon laders guide to demonic magic.

[00:19:57]You know, you don't find these books very often. When you do, they are very pricey.

[00:20:07]So, she was super appreciative that Allan picked these up for us cuz there's no way we could have got them ourselves.

[00:20:34]Thank you once again, King Allen. And then [music] the Bookery Fairborn we always go to posted that they put out a bunch of new books. So it's like even though I'm trying not to spend money, I was like, "Well, I got to go see what they put out. I can't miss out." And there was some really rare and uh amazing stuff that I didn't uh couldn't afford any other time, but I definitely wasn't buying right before we go to Pole Fest.

[00:21:03]So, I got uh there's some dollars and dollar books and $5 books here. And I got some some pulps, which I'll show up for the paperbacks. So, we got this uh Berkeley Medallion, which it looks like a SE book. I don't know how sleazy it is if it's on Berkeley Medallion, but it does say call girls were his specialty.

[00:21:25]So, he's a vice squad and he works in the with the call girls and then they uh Yeah. So, someone is murdering them. So, it's like a a crime book.

[00:22:20]So, yeah, of course I got that. Of course, I picked it up. Of course, I picked up this Gothic book. I liked it cuz it was a bit different. She is in a dress and she is running away, but it's just from a doorway. It's not from a giant house.

[00:22:37]Veils Gate. Amanda's legacy turned her life into a fear ridden nightmare. It almost looks like she's coming out of an old tomb.

[00:22:48]Very nice. Who put this? Who published this magnum?

[00:22:59]We bought one of these at Pulfest and it was all beat up and it was $20.

[00:23:32]I just hope you guys know that I admit everything that I don't know. I'll never fake. I'll always admit it. I don't care. I don't care that I don't know how to pronounce something right the first time or that I've never read a series, [music] but I am going to knock it off. I do want to read them, but you know. Anyway, we I figured we start with the werewolf. That's a good place to start for Doc Savage.

[00:24:00]Here's the infamous 4 Day Weekend, the book that Jake I think is at the number the top of the list of is so bad it's good.

[00:24:11]And uh Brian and Tim Bad Taste Brian and Tim from Secret Fire both just recently read it and they were just talking it up. So when I seen it for $5, I like I want I want to be in the cool kids club.

So, uh, we just talked about this in our spy video, Overkill. I found another copy for a dollar, and this is one of the books that I will be sending to Mr. Goat Frenzy. [00:28:09]This one was $5 from July 1950.

[00:28:16]And then, like I said, I'm not spending a lot of money at [music] this time. And he has a section of $5 pulps. And there's something that I've always been curious about. And I was finally like, you know what? Today is the day.

[00:28:30]And we got some romance bulbs.

[00:28:35]So, there's love.

[00:28:38]And you're probably like, "How did you choose which ones?" Well, this one has a story by Johnston. So, she wrote Howling in the Woods, which is one of my favorite gothic books, and they made this book into a TV movie, and it stars uh I Dream of Genie as the the main character, the protagonist.

[00:29:02]So, when I seen Belda [music] Johnson's name on the romance pip, I was like, you know what? Let's start there. It's kind of how we [music] started the Gothic.

[00:29:09]So, let's start the romance.

[00:29:14]I don't know any of the other names, but I don't know. What do you guys think it's going to be like? What else can it be? Besides, it's not, you know, could it just be just meetings? Is it just like how you how you meet the person?

[00:29:25][music] I'm very interested. And [snorts] then I got another one. This was kind of like a joke to make my wife laugh, but it's a it's a Christmas love story.

[00:29:38]and she likes watching romance movies.

[00:29:42]And the only ones that I enjoy watching are the Christmas ones. I They're just so [music] cheesy and [clears throat] wholesome.

[00:29:51]And for some reason, I just really enjoy watching them with her. So, I got back saw this and I grabbed it and I was like, it's funny, but also maybe we'll maybe we'll read a story for Christmas this year. We'll read a romance Christmas story. I'll do an audio book of it.

[00:30:14]So, that Oh, no. And she got two magazines.

[00:30:19]uh famous monsters here and a vampereella.

[00:30:30]So, this next one I ordered uh right before I put the spy video out just in case. I didn't want to screw myself just in case people started looking for these books. But I ordered the first Chandra Smith book. So, there it is. The evil Shiva. The eye of the evil Shiva. Eye of Shiva.

[00:30:51]Chandra Smith's secret agent matches wits with rich men greedy enough for life to buy it on the bloody altar of Shiva. So that's cool. So if you didn't watch the spy video, the second installment in the Chandra Smith, he goes to Cree and it has a ancient Greek ancient Greek mythology theme to it. So hopefully this is uh the same but in India. That would be really cool.

[00:31:21]Kind of bummed on the condition.

[00:31:24]Like it has this giant I don't know if you can see it, but there's this giant [music] piece of tape here and this fold. And of course, they put some stupid sticker. Even though I got the sticker off, it's sticky as hell. And it was $8 plus shipping. No, it was $8 flat. Shipping was included. So, uh, maybe I shouldn't be complaining.

[00:31:44]This next stack we got from Harry from Harry's Horror Books. It's a great horror channel here on YouTube if you're unaware. And he shows all of the the 80s stuff. I you know, if you like paperbacks from hell, if you uh want to see just nonstop 80s, some ' 70s, some '9s horror paperbacks, Harry's Horror Books is the place. So, he goes to many stores and he knows that I like Men's Adventures. So, he will send me a message be like, "Hey, I found all these. They're a dollar. Do you want them?" And I say, "Of course, hell yes, I do." And he sends them. And we got uh we have some books that we're going to send Harry that I'm going to show next.

[00:32:28]So, uh first, yeah, here we go. What is it? Deadly Force Blood Cult. Look at this guy. Look at how Is he excited? Is he angry? It's a blood cult.

[00:32:40]This is one that I've never seen before.

[00:32:43]Series of gruesome murders have turned Los Angeles into a city of death.

[00:32:49]Uh suburban homes are broken into. I've loved that theme in Men's Adventure is just so ridiculous.

[00:32:56]Like the the scared suburban people fighting back against the city.

[00:33:01]Yeah. Yeah, that's what this is. So, there we go. Deadly Force.

[00:33:06][sighs and snorts] He sent me a bunch of the sobs, which I do. I have some. I think I might have one or two.

[00:33:20]I have read a a Barabus, but I've never read an S. So, so it's kind of like a a spin-off.

[00:33:33]I got the Remo novelization, the much hated movie based off of the Destroyer series.

[00:33:43]And this is the Yeah, the novelization written the movie novelization written by the authors of the Destroyer series.

[00:33:51]So that's kind of funny. I haven't seen it. So I read one Destroyer book and I was not impressed. just I was not a fan.

[00:34:01]It was uh really bad actually. So I I don't know. Everyone that loves Men's Adventure always talks so highly of it.

[00:34:10]And I watched this interview with Rick Meyers who was the author of the Ninja Master series which I absolutely love.

[00:34:17]It's one of my favorites of all time.

[00:34:19]And there's an interview with him on YouTube and he is talking about the Destroyer series. Like it is the greatest thing that's ever been written.

[00:34:26]And I'm like did I just get a really bad one? Is that all there is to it? I don't know. I need to I know. I need to go back and check it out, but maybe I'll watch the movie. Wouldn't that be that would be hilarious if I was like, "Oh, I love the movie, but I hate the books." Cuz it's the opposite for everyone else. So, there's Yeah. So, there's the Barabus. He's the bee in so it's another so.

[00:34:58]Some biker biker adventure. Biker action. Fallen angel on the run.

[00:35:08]He's one man on two wheels out to save a town from a rolling army of kill crazed bikers.

[00:35:27]And then here's another one that I that I don't think I've ever seen. Do I have a Ter I'm probably like It's probably like right there. I'm going to embarrass myself, but Terminator the Terminator series number three, the Kill Squad, which is the name of the Executioner number two, isn't it? I read The Executioner number two, The Kill Squad.

[00:35:47]I believe that's what it's called.

[00:35:50]I could be wrong.

[00:35:55]So yeah, this is just like it. It's a executioner ripoff. It's taken on the mafia.

[00:36:04]Then I got this big old fat book that Harry sent me by reason of insanity.

[00:36:33]But it is f it is 500 pages. This is like five of the books that I usually read. So maybe I'll I'll start it and just space it out, you know, space it out over time.

And we'll just start with the two that I'm going to send Harry because I would love to send him horror books, but you just don't find horror books out. And when you do, they're very expensive. like they're like $20 and you know it's it's difficult to find affordable trading books in the horror genre. So he said that he's also looking for Roberty Howard and I happen to find some Roberty Howard the Berkeley editions right there. So these are doubles for me. So, they were they will both be going to Harry, which is really cool because Skullface is the horror Roberty Howard's horror stories.

[00:37:40]Beautiful cover. And if you're not aware, these Berkeley editions, they come with fold out posters. And every single one of these books had the poster in it still, which you don't always see. [music] So yeah, we're sending that one you to that one's coming to you, Harry Skullface.

[00:40:00]Hopefully, it's the same. It's by Jane Converse. And they had quite a few of her books there. These nurse nurse adventure books. I don't know if it's adventure nurse romance. And they were all wacky like this. these wacky settings.

[00:40:16]But this is the only one I got. It was $10, so I just spent $10 on a nurse romance book.

[00:40:24]Here's uh this was in the cheap section, and it is Billy Holiday: Lady Sings the Blues. So, it's a Billy Holiday story by Billy Holiday.

[00:41:05]I picked up this book. It was one of the ones that Paul Giamonti was recommending in the video and it's the the James White the look at this look at this nurse bug.

[00:41:27]Oh my god. There was a couple of them but I got this one just in particular for this the nurse bug.

[00:42:25]These are the New English Library Youth Cult books. They were sent to me by Cammy.

[00:42:33]She's tough titties on Instagram and I think she just changed her name here on YouTube to [music] it's just Cammy and wow um this is incredible.

[00:42:45]I don't know what to say. Cammy, you are amazing. Uh if you're not if you are unaware, the youth culture exploitation books in uh Britain came out in the early8s and basically whatever the kids were into, they were writing books about them. These exploitive like over-the-top books of not really how the culture is just sensational sensationalized versions of these uh youth cultures. So they had like punks and stuff. You'll see. So, we have the mods. We have mod rules.

[00:43:22]So, there we go. You know, like the who the mods London mods and Hastings Riot.

[00:43:32]So, that is amazing.

[00:43:35]Amazing. My wife flipped out when she saw this. So, she absolutely loves Quadrophania and and the mods and Yeah.

[00:43:44]And then here is another one that she flipped out about and it's swords, female skin head book.

[00:43:58]And then she sent me the original the original skin head book. And we um I have a video where I talk about all these books. I had Justin Marriott from the Paperback Fanatic on as a guest and we spent a long time discussing these books and what they are if you're curious.

[00:44:17]So there's the the first Skin Head book and I think Olly just reviewed this on his channel. He just got a bunch of these also. And this is like you're like, "Oh, that's, you know, not cool."

[00:44:31]Yeah, it's not. It's It's very, you know, nasty. It's but it's also um [music] it's incredible because it was like a bestseller. It was a this was a best-selling book in [music] England at the time.

[00:44:47]So crazy crazy.

[00:44:50]Uh Trouble for Skin Head.

[00:44:53]And these are written by it says Richard Allen. Uh what was his real name? I forget. I'll put it up on screen.

[00:45:01]But um [music] yeah, so he went went out and I I don't even know if he like had conversations [music] with actual skin heads and but he just made up this uh this very nasty very nasty uh series of skin head books which you know it's not not that far of a stretch from the real skin heads. And uh the real skin head culture actually it's started in the '60s and [music] and it was before they were into uh the white power that it's synonymous with these days. Uh they were into reggae music and SCA and there was there's black skin heads if you ever seen the movie this is England.

[00:45:42]Um so I don't know it's it's a culture that in the US they don't know. They just know like American History X and stuff like that, but it's uh not particularly [music] what you think it is. It's not like racist, but it also is in uh these books because he's exploiting it. I don't know. Here you go. Knuckle Girls.

[00:46:21]Here's Suede Head, Boot Boys, and then uh Cammy also sent me black exploitation book, which we absolutely love. Black exploitation. Also, the Emerald Oil Caper Dark Angel. This is number two, the Dark Angel series. These are all so impossible to find.

[00:46:51]So, this is like uh Pam Greer, Foxy Brown, Angela Harp was a girl for bread and both. In her line of work, she got plenty of both because Angela was the Dark Angel. A luscious private eye with a ghetto upbringing, an Ivy League education topped off with a highclass call girl career, and [music] a stent with the New York police. Like, oh my god, what the [ __ ] are you talking about?

[00:47:20]So, look at that. Books I never thought I would own right there. Thank you so much, Cammy. I don't even know what to say. I got to get um [music] Cammy's looking for horror books. I'm going to actually like I don't know. I'm going through the collection what I got. I'm going to order stuff. I'm going to do it. We're gonna do it up because these are very rare books and books that I never would have owned if she did not send them to me.

Ron Leser was a illustrator, a paperback cover illustrator and this one is the all western edition.
