The human brain lacks pain receptors, meaning headaches after concussion are typically not caused by brain tissue damage but rather by cervical spine irritation; since nearly all sport-related mild traumatic brain injuries involve a whiplash component, healthcare providers must assess and treat cervical spine pathologies (including muscles, upper traps, SCM, suboccipitals, and intervertebral levels from C0 to C4) to effectively manage post-concussion headaches.

Not every post-concussion headache comes purely from the brain. 🧠Added:
Our brains do not have pain receptors.
That's right. You heard me correctly.
The human brain does not possess a noceptor which is sensitive to tissue trauma. There's a really, really, really good chance that what's going on as far as that headache is concerned is actually the cervical spine in disguise.
Essentially, almost all north of 99% of sport related MTBis come with a whiplash component if we assess it properly. But if someone is experiencing headache behavior after we've ruled out red flags, once we've ruled out that it's not a migraine subtype, that almost guarantees that we're dealing with a cervoggenic headache, a neck related headache. Which means that when someone is managing your concussion, you're going to want them to be a healthcare provider who is trained in assessing and diagnosing and treating cervical spine pathologies. We want to see what's going on in your muscles. What's going on in your upper traps? What's going on in your SCM? What's going on in your sub oipitals? What's going on at C, you know, C 0, C1, C1, C2, C2, C3, C3, C4.
What's happening in those what's happening in those intervertebral levels, we're dealing with a grouchy protective neck. And if we can slay two birds with one stone, beautiful. Find what's going on in the neck, settle it down, build up its resilience.
Instantly, we have a neck that feels better, a neck that moves better, and a head that hurts less. So, brains do not have pain receptors. doesn't mean that what we're feeling is imagined. It just means it's likely coming from somewhere else.
