The BIG OIL Corp That Descended Into CHAOS

[00:00:00]I'll tell you a story that caught my eye.

[00:00:17]>> Yes, let's uh let's just get into this BP business. Can we just enjoy the sight uh or the realization for some of you uh that despite the mass media's contempt and projection onto regular working people uh that we are the uncivilized or irrational and classless ones uh in our behaviors with our money troubles or addictions and all of that? The uh boardrooms of big oil conglomerates are very much as messy and petty and stupid as the rest of us.

[00:00:47]>> What the hell is going on at BP? uh they are perhaps just like us in a way that they never planned on being uh put out as in the newspapers. Uh so what has happened a well we talked about BP a little while ago about their old CEO getting ousted because uh shareholders wanted to abandon net zero. Uh a hedge fund bought an absolute gangload of shares. They bought into BP uh and they were royally pissed off because profits went down concurrently with their environmental initiatives. Uh nothing to do with the price of like the cheaper price of oil just tanking their profits. I'm sure that was nothing to do with it. Completely unrelated. Uh but they blamed it on the environmentalism.

[00:01:35]And so like no shortage of other white men in suits, uh when faced with difficult decisions, they opted to get rid of the green crap to channel their inner David Cameron. Uh they were like, you know, things things feel tough at the moment. Things feel challenging. Is there is there some way that we BP could survive if we just get back to earth murdering ecoside is perhaps a corporate journey that uh that they considered plotting for themselves. So the green BP stuff, uh, all that marketing, PR stuff, all of that gets binned when the activist investors all coalesque around their shared desire to pull the last of the fossil fuels out of the ground and doom civilization to extinction for a 0.1% increase in their dividends. It's payday, guys. Um, they basically form a lobby group, all of these investors. uh but instead of a lobby group, you know, trying to influence a political party, uh they're lobbying BP globally. That's basically what was happening here.

[00:02:42]And so the Green Corporation, Green BP, cuddly, friendly, progressive BP, that one that you might remember, um well, that was kind of half led by it was like a sort of dual effort. Okay. um that was half led by their then CEO is a guy called Bernard Looney.

[00:03:02]Um but he gets ousted.

[00:03:05]Um although nobody says it's because he's too compassionate with his bloody science and environmentalism.

[00:03:13]uh they say it's because of standards and governance and that he failed to disclose personal relationships which I remember like reading that going like right okay you know this isn't about net zero it's not it's not about net zero actually bird ludy it's about you holding out on telling us who you've been [ __ ] that's all this is birdie frankly we don't care if you save the planet or not what we care about is that you derail our board meetings with details of your conquests as a swordsman. It's important, Bernard.

[00:03:54]If you want to be taken seriously as a Footsie 100 CEO, then you've got to openly brag about who you've been [ __ ] Birded Ludy, it's not a it's not a quarterly shareholder update. It's a locker room talk bird. But all of that was Nion two years ago now.

[00:04:12]And so then they get this lady Meg O'Neal in. She's the new CEO.

[00:04:18]Uh Me O'Neal was the first female chief executive officer of one of the big four uh oil corporations. So good for her, right?

[00:04:28]Um highf flyier. Get more women into boardroom roles and all that. Good for you, Megie. Uh though presumably she only got the role after they made her wear the Jodie Marsh outfit with uh all of the names uh all of it and then you know paraded her to go crowds down the street and jailed her in a Tracy Eman tent.

[00:04:52]Uh who who have you been sleeping with Beck? You must disclose your personal relationships. Which as I was reading about this earlier I was thinking you know that must feel a bit weird.

[00:05:02]You know, that must be uh that must be a bit strange to be appointed the first female CEO of a big oil conglomerate like that and to then feel pressured to tell a circular table full of old white guys who you have let plow you. That's like you've got to disclose your personal relationships, your personal sexual diances. Foul wench.

[00:05:27]Um, you know, if that was me, I'd be like, it just doesn't it doesn't feel as progressive as I imagined it might do this whole experience.

[00:05:35]Um, so Bernard gets ousted. Uh, Me O'Neal comes in and activist investors don't want environmental initiatives.

[00:05:47]They also ousted uh a former chairman, Helge Lund, his name was uh he was the other guy who was very pro- net zero.

[00:05:56]the other guy responsible for the very fluffy, compassionate, green, progressive marketing BP.

[00:06:03]Uh they didn't like him. They savaged his plans, his marketing ideas and all of that. Uh BP's green identity. So he kind of shrugs off the back of that.

[00:06:11]He's like, "Well, you know, whatever.

[00:06:14]I'm off." Uh so he [ __ ] off. Uh then now this guy Albert Manifold would I'm slowly getting to my point here. Albert Manifold takes over as chairman. This is like eight months ago.

[00:06:26]Meg is still CEO, but Albert Manifold is the chairman now. And there appears to be a lot of disqu in this boardroom.

[00:06:38]Like I don't know if it's like the fear of what the lobby group uh doing next or planning or plotting or you know how much instability or control they have yielded thus far for people who are not themselves on the board. Seems that they can create quite a lot of tumult.

[00:07:00]Uh the mere mention of them perhaps requires drastic action from Me O'Neal kicking out this uh this chairman. But um although officially BP have sacked Albert Manifold for overbearing behavior and bullying, reports are emerging that it was because he had been privately meeting with the lobby group of activist investors and not telling the board.

[00:07:24]This all flares up. uh company secretary and Albert Manifold have this uh uh spectacular fallout according to insiders and the secretary a guy called Ben something or other uh he has to take time out from work I don't know if he was like signed off or something big blowout happens uh in response to that the board unanimously agreed to remove Albert Manifold from the pos like immediately just you're just done get out as chairman a position that is supposed to be a guiding in calm measured hand to guide the corporation.

[00:07:59]So they're usually there for like you know 7 years 12 years. It's basically like retirement for like big wig executives. Yeah. They just play golf and they're just a sage advisor on hand if you need them. Um but they sack him after a period of only eight months and they put out a statement that says about the bullying and the overbearing behavior they can't tolerate it. It goes against their standards. Uh, but does anybody believe that BP would have an issue with bullying behavior? Do they?

[00:08:29]Like a big heartless corporation, murdering the planet. They honestly they think they expect everybody to believe that they would they draw the line at bullying at overbearing behavior. They expect that like that's the that's the red line from their old white board members. Is it like is that honestly what we think has happened here? Does anybody believe that? And I don't know why, like it just makes me laugh. This story makes me laugh. These very suited, very rich, very detached and removed millionaires, uh, all behaving this undignified and chaotically like he didn't disclose his personal relationships. He didn't tell us who he was [ __ ] He was bullying and he sent this guy into having to take time out from his job and lobby groups demanding changes to get back to profitability.

[00:09:22]But the chaos that they're creating has created BP's share price is down by like a quarter off the back of all of this this gossip, this ridiculousness, this drama. Um, and so then the board is so fed up with this lobby group, uh, they've preemptively sacked the chairman for meeting with those activist investors, but they're just off the back of that, it's like more chaos, isn't it?

[00:09:44]You sack the chairman in like 8 months.

[00:09:47]Like, it's all so disorganized and shitcoms, isn't it? Like, if killing the planet doesn't work out for them, a career move into a breakaway left-wing political splinter group party would welcome a lot of these transferable skills, guys. Um, the last thing is I was reading a thing about uh uh about how confused BP's uh identity has become uh since they abandoned their environmentalism.

[00:10:15]uh like it used to be BP adverts uh where they'd be like uh learn more about your carbon footprint and um you know we're part of the solution they would say and they would talk about bofuels and solar and wind and like that was that was their corporate identity was like don't look at us like a big fossil fuel filthy big oil kind of like we're trying to help we're trying to transition like like everyone is you know it's all about renewables guys don't judge us but now that's all gone on and they're muddled and they're changing every 5 minutes. It's like who are they now? You know, like they can't just have adverts of them just pumping more carbon up into the atmosphere. I mean, that's not that's not going to work, is it? PR and marketing and corporate identity wise.

[00:11:04]Uh so yeah, it's saying stuff like, you know, BP's confused identity.

[00:11:09]Who even are BP to their customers? And I was thinking like if it was me, uh, I think the new BP logo should just be a white man in a suit, uh, kind of shrugging.

[00:11:28]I think that should be their new corporate identity. I think that should be their new logo. Just a white guy in a suit shrugging.

[00:11:38]Yeah, you know, broken oil pipe in the background, dead fish everywhere, sllicked out seagulls, singed crops, flooded villages, collar settling in, huracans tearing through Florida retirement villages, and just BP's logo and a shrugging white guy. That's me, we tried some other stuff. We tried, didn't we? NOW IT'S BACK TO THIS. I THOUGHT YOU CARED ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENT.

[00:12:10]NO, but you you literally said we care about the planet. Yeah.

[00:12:17]Still though, you mean to tell me that was all just vapid corporate PR and marketing? Correct. Yes. Yes, it was.

[00:12:26]All right. Okay. Well, and and you're sure you're not interested in becoming a center-left POLITICAL PARTY? BECAUSE I'M TELLING YOU, I'M telling you right now, guys, for an ouster chairman with your skill set because no radio stations calling to the main video screaming out cuz
