[00:00:00]Is the box office finally back? We've had some massive individual hits, but the overall box office has struggled substantially since COVID. But not only is 2026 been better, this year could legitimately blow the last few years out of the water. First off, the Mario Galaxy movie should reach a billion before the month ends. That's awesome, but pretty unsurprising. What is a surprise is The Devil Wears Prada 2. I was evidently not the audience for this film. I've seen barely any marketing for it and hardly knew it existed, but it's already made half a billion dollars in 3 weeks. For reference, that's more than any Marvel movie last year. With Michael, Mario, Hail Mary, Prada, and the Chinese film Pickaxes 3, we've already had five $500 million movies before summer. No year since COVID has had more than three. And while there's a few big films I expect to underperform, summer and beyond brings a ton of heavy hitters. This is about to be a killer year for theaters. But those are just my thoughts.
