A poignant visual autopsy of the American casual dining era's collapse under the weight of corporate insolvency. It effectively captures the haunting transience of economic stability in a post-growth landscape.

Abandoned Red Lobster - Dickson City, PA
Added:Hi, y'all. It's me, Fuzz Pawny.
>> the front where it says Ames real big.
>> [music] >> Well, hi everyone. I'm out here in Dickson City, Pennsylvania, just outside of Scranton. Came up here to see the Big Boy Reunion over at Steamtown with uh UP 4014 and UP 4012. And uh had some time to kill while I'm out here.
And uh I was coming up the highway here to check out some places and see if I could find anything, and I did.
No more cheddar biscuits here at Red Lobster. So, about this Red Lobster, Chris Stanton and I were up here in late April. We came here uh to go to Steamtown to check out the museum and get together with JP and do some videos with him, uh JP videos. And um came up here today for the reunion, and I figured since I had all this downtime, I'd look for places to do videos at, and this ended up being one of them. It closed the week that Stanton and I came up here to see uh JP videos. It closed on April 28th after a 25-year run here in the area. And um well, if you know anything about uh Red Lobster, they've been dealing with financial issues, closing several locations around the country, and I've actually done quite a few of them. And uh this is one of them that lasted a little bit longer since the initial wave. And uh I want to check it out. There are blinds down on a lot of windows, but there are some that don't have the blinds down, and all the lights are on inside, so we should be able to see in there just fine. So, let's go check it out, see what we find.
All right, you go.
This was a nicer looking location.
Except for that railing there that got a little doinked.
Hours of operation, Sunday through Thursday 11:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
Yeah, I don't think so.
Wow, isn't that amazing? All wood doors.
All right, now that we did that, let's move on.
If you didn't get the better sarcasm with that. So, here's a look inside.
You left your ladder in there.
It really looks nice.
Like it could just reopen tomorrow, honestly.
I like that table there.
Right in the foreground here with the one chair. That's the time out table.
Now, who's paying that electric bill?
Why did they leave the lights on? Were they expecting me to come in there?
Rock.
Robert, I don't like this rock.
Like, were they expecting me to show up so they could give me some cheddar biscuits and lobster pizza or something or no?
Asking for a friend. Not really.
Nice looking location though, I'll give them that.
I know a couple of the other Red Lobsters I've done you couldn't see inside very well cuz they had blinds down all over the place. I don't know if this was outdoor seating or if this was just a wait area.
You know, for those massive crowds to go to Red Lobster.
When you have a lot of options out here too, like Olive Garden.
Olive Garden. Olive it, the whole thing.
I'm surprised I haven't been able to film any of those yet. I haven't found any closed.
And actually, I got a couple more places I got to film out closer to home in New Jersey. Um it was brought to my attention uh the week that I'm up here doing this that uh Sa- On The Border closed up, which is a Tex-Mex restaurant that I absolutely love.
And I ate at many times, not just the one in uh New Jersey that Fuzz and I went to, but in general.
We've only been to that location one time, and I guess sadly, that will be the only time we will ever have gone there.
Sucks. I like their food. Their empanadas are so good.
I get them every time.
Has nothing to do with Red Lobster, but oh well, you get the idea.
Red Lobster's financial issues have been going on for years.
They filed for bankruptcy a couple of years ago, closed a lot of locations all around, including one in Erie, PA, that I did a video at a couple of years ago.
Or a year ago. Can't remember.
When you do so many videos like I have, it's easy to forget.
Let's take a look through that window. I like how they left a few blinds up.
Yeah, really good-looking restaurant, honestly.
If we step back, we can take a look at this whole place.
A lot of handicap parking here, that's good.
Even though there's nothing going on there, handicap ramp right there to go in.
You can see where it used to say Red Lobster. It's all ripped off there, old paint exposed. And actually, this was painted red.
At least as of the last Google Street View image from 2023, it was red and they painted it this taupe color.
That was a fun word for me to say, taupe.
Cuz it reminds me of the interior of my old Chrysler Sebring convertible cuz I had the taupe interior and it even said it.
I know what I'm talking about sometimes.
That car wasn't there when I showed up, but oh well, I don't really care.
Any uh food left over in the garbage areas?
Yay nay?
Nay.
I like the ramp you could bring the garbage down in here without having to get go out here in the rain as much as you normally would. Hi door.
I was knocking and trying to say hello.
Stupid.
Beautiful day out here in June.
Big cold front came through yesterday.
We got hammered with storms in New Jersey and I know a lot of people throughout the entire state of Pennsylvania did and there were actually quite a lot of tornadoes that dropped down from that storm.
We got nearly 3 in of rain in an hour where we were at in New Jersey, but we didn't have to worry about flooding because if we flood, everybody in the world would be dead cuz we're right at sea level basically.
But there's no major creeks or streams right by our home, so that's why we didn't have to worry.
Red Lobster no more.
See all these blinds are down, so we can't see in there, but we got to see in there pretty well, actually.
Believe it or not.
And if you don't believe it, I don't know why you wouldn't because I literally just showed you on camera.
Oh, well. I guess that'll be a wrap from here. So, no cheddar bay biscuits.
None of that stuff, but that's all right.
There's actually an open TGI Fridays literally just up the road from here.
And Stan and I actually ate there twice uh the week we were up here in April. We came uh up here to Steamtown the first time that week. And then we came up here again to get together with JP videos.
And when we did, we went to Sorry, turning the phone mount there.
There you go.
We went to TGI Fridays for dinner because I hadn't been there in a couple of years.
And they're so scarce now because they have so many locations that have closed.
And you've probably seen all the videos I've done at TGI Fridays over the years that when we realized that one was open. It's like, crap. Let's go. And actually the food was pretty good. It was actually really good. Um so, um But what what is uh interesting though is we were right there during the dinner rush when they would normally be really busy like any other restaurant would be.
And they were dead. Like they we were like maybe two out of like maybe I don't know. 12 customers total for the dinner rush. So, that was kind of wild. I don't know how that one hangs on, but more power to them.
But anyway, I'm going to wrap up this video. Hope you enjoyed this look at Red Lobster.
Glad I got to check that out and uh see what else I find while I'm up here and I have time to kill. See what time it is.
It's 11:39. So, I still have just under 2 hours until my ticketed time to go up to Steamtown to see the big boy reunion.
I'm looking forward to that. And uh you know, I I'll have that video together for you guys to enjoy. So, But yeah, I'm signing off. Thank you so much for watching. I appreciate you all. Take care and stay awesome, and I'll see you in the next video, wherever that might be.
Bye, everybody.
