Dirty Frag is a Linux kernel zero-day vulnerability that allows any local user to escalate to root privileges by abusing the page cache mechanism to overwrite read-only system files like sudo or Sudoers, affecting major distributions including Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, cloud images, and WSL; once an attacker has any shell access, this vulnerability provides a direct path to full system control, making it critical for administrators to patch systems, restrict shell access, and not underestimate local user threats.

One Command to Own Any Linux Box? Meet Dirty Frag...Added:
There's a new Linux bug that lets any basic user become root on almost any distro with one command. It's called Dirty Frag. It's a zero-day in the Linux kernel that abuses the page cache, kind of like Dirty Pipe, to overwrite files that are supposed to be read-only. With the public exploit, an attacker who already has a low-privilege shell can quietly modify things like sudo or SEPassword and pop a root shell almost instantly.
Most major Linux distros are vulnerable.
Ubuntu, Fedora, Arch, bunch of cloud images, even WSL because the buggy code's been in the kernel for years.
This isn't a remote magic bullet, but once someone's on your box, Dirty Frag's the master key. Patches updates land, lock down who gets shell access, and don't sleep on just a local user anymore.
