UNREAL: Bungie KILLS OFF Destiny to ‘Save’ Marathon!Added:
It's that time again. Everyone's favorite game to watch the charts of but not actually play. And this is a very special episode covering Marathon charts because we just heard news that Bungie, the developer behind Marathon, has announced they will be having massive layoffs at their company. But not to worry, it's only going to be affecting their successful property of Destiny 2.
And they're going to be pushing all their resources over trying to save Marathon. Right now, just past 10 p.m.
Pacific time, Thursday, May 21st, 2026.
Refresh. O, we are at four digits. This is not even like a high four digits. N STILL OVER 9,000 but 9233 people concordantly playing this game.
This is the game Bungie decided to put all their resources, all their eggs into one basket and say, "F it. We're going to make Marathon survive if it kills us." Which I got some bad news for them when it comes to that. We got Paul Somalis who says, "Marathon day 77 fire sale. Marathon reached 10,828 concurrent players on Wednesday evening, down from 11497 the week before. For context, April's Wednesday peak reached 33,820 concurrent players. Destiny 2's concurrent player count remains lower, sitting at 9399 players, which I mean, yes, I guess it remains lower, but uh 9,399 compared to right now looking at marathon, it's pretty comparable. It seems that Marathon patch didn't make a difference in player retention. With weekends coming up, there could be a small spike in interest. X the doubt on that because last weekend there was no spike. As we've seen widespread reports of cheaters and assisted tools across social media, there are still people who are incredibly skeptical they even exist, let alone that they're common.
Just because Bungie says they have a zero tolerance policy doesn't mean people won't cheat. And it definitely doesn't mean Bungie is actually enforcing it. These cheats are extremely easy to find. One of the more popular sites is Zadeo. And no, it isn't an ad read. I'm not sponsored. They offer visual ESP, aimbot, loot detection, and AI tracking, all undetected by Battle Eye. Access runs between 40 and 150 USD depending on whether you want monthly or lifetime. Of course, Zado isn't the only option. A quick Google search shows plenty more. So, if you sweat TM are gaslighting you and claiming they aren't cheating, chances are they absolutely are unapologetically. What do you think?
Is Bungie ever going to seriously ban cheaters or are they worried it'll crater what's left of the player base?
after what happened earlier from Bloomberg saying after ending development on Destiny 2, Sony's Bungie will lay off staff and focus on Marathon rather than jumping directly to Destiny 3 tells me that they don't really care about the cheater problem. They don't care about Destiny 2. They're just trying to get an own on the Chuds by making Marathon survive long enough that people don't call it a Concord. I really deep down feel like that's what they're doing right now at the behest of destroying their own company in the meantime. Destiny Tracker says dropping Destiny 2 from Marathon is certainly a choice and there are many people in the community that are very very upset at the direction that they're going with this. This is sis. They said, "Fuck Marathon, by the way." And I quote tweeted, I said, "Destiny players are not happy at the moment." And sis replied, "Watching one of the greatest games of all time get cannibalized for extraction slop. We'll do that to you."
I said, "My sincerest condolences, and I'm not being facicious." And they said, "Thanks, man." Like, this this is the actual playerbased community where people are looking at what's happening right now and just being real. Like this is the biggest what the [ __ ] moment that I have seen in gaming in years. The fact that Bungie decided to go with Marathon instead of Destiny 2 to the point of destroying their company to make sure Marathon can last a few months longer makes me ask some serious questions.
Autism Capital says it's almost like Marathon was a bad game that nobody wanted that was astroturfed and spectacularly exploded because it was an inorganic shelled SCOP that actually ended up killing their Destiny franchise that people actually wanted. Bungie went woke and then went broke. This is quote tweeting War 64. Bungie's planning significant layoffs following the end of Destiny 2 development. But don't worry guys, cuz Marathon is still going to be around. This is marathon the game.
Triage is the one who knows they can't rely on anyone else because everyone relies on them. Featured creators. And let's go through a bunch of the creators here. Let's let's check this hype video.
Get excited for Bro, I got to be honest. This this fan art is uh pretty [ __ ] sus.
That's all I'm killed Destiny for this.
Just keep that in mind. Marathon GG says, "How it feels knowing the marathon hate is about to double after the Destiny 2 announcement." The marathon hate is about to be doubled after Destiny 2 announcement.
Marathon GD Noir the Marathon hater of the year is here. I was going to say, wait, I thought I was the hater of the year, but I'm like, I don't hate on it.
I just report and talk about it. I don't I don't like the game, but I'm not like a hater on it. Just like I wish Bungie would do the right thing and keep Destiny 2 going instead of putting all their resources into whatever the [ __ ] this is. Noir says Destiny 2 is dead.
Marathon is dead. Bungie is dead. Maybe just shutting up and working on Halo wasn't so bad after all. RIP Bozo fries in the bag. There's no way Bungie can buy enough time after a $765 million impairment loss. Destiny 3 would have had to be in development since COVID to hit that release window anytime soon.
And uh fun fact, according to what Bungie announced earlier with the layoffs, not only is Destiny 3 not currently in development, there are no plans for a Destiny 3 ever.
Yikes. I said Marathon is an abject failure. Tards making decisions are tanking this [ __ ] company. It's utter [ __ ] Block me all you want. It doesn't change the fact that I'm right.
I've been right the whole [ __ ] time.
By the way, when I wrote this earlier, this was from the heart. Like, I wasn't trying to be extreme just to to try to get attention. I was [ __ ] pissed, okay? Like, genuinely from the heart. I was like, I'm just going to write this tweet and just throw it out there. The studio has been co-opted by tarded cult ideologues caring more about [ __ ] rainbows and TRANSIES THAN SOUND [ __ ] business decisions. You earned this demise. Shameful how the once long ago mighty have fallen. [ __ ] all the way off. The worst part, we've seen this song and dance before. All these loonies will contact their buddies, be rehired somewhere else, and rot a new place to the core all over again. It's a virus.
And I noticed earlier today I'm blocked by Destiny. Uh the game that I have never played and I don't believe I've ever interacted with this account. 2.6 million followers and they searched me out and blocked me because they don't like my coverage of Marathon.
That's actually pretty impressive. I'm not even mad. I'm I'm impressed. I'm like, "Oh, you care about me that much to search me out to block me?
All right, cool. This this is when I think about Marathon, this is the image that comes to mind with the people that are working at the company and the [ __ ] they keep pushing into this game and Bungie on the whole selling pins like this to support trans ideologies and kids and transitions.
It's [ __ ] Not to mention being found out supporting the KKK and all that, but that's something I've covered in previous videos as well. Bungie as company, Bungie as a company has forgotten to make video games over there. It's just activism. That's all they do. This is the current chart as of today recording this video on May 21st.
And this is the game that they are going to be putting all their effort into trying to save.
Maybe they will, but again, if I'm a betting man, I wouldn't do it on on this. This would be what you would call a sucker's bet to say, "Yes, let's destroy our entire company on the off chance that magically just putting more time and effort into this game is somehow going to turn it around." A [ __ ] product is a [ __ ] product. You might be able to dazzle it up and and put bells and whistles on it, deceive people for a short period of time, but eventually they're going to leave again. This is Destiny Tracker saying some players are review bombing Marathon on Steam after today's news. Not recommended. Played seven days on Xbox hoping to save Destiny 2. What the [ __ ] happened? Do Destiny 3. Cool game, but not worth betting your future studio on it. This game is not worth the dev time it took to development. They poured all their resources into this just so it could flop. Almost as bad as Highgard. The game killed a franchise that had been in development for 12 years. Now it will likely be the death of this once great studio. Pete Parsons is a greedy posos.
Bungie knew they were going to end development on Destiny since the beginning of the year and let the community think that it was going to be fine. Literally nobody with a brain wanted this game. Was not worth Destiny as a franchise dying for it. Like yeah, real good job deciding to chase trends and make a mid extraction shooter with the gimmick of it being that it's heavily PvP. Oh, and you can walk that back by committing more PVE in the future. Nice. Not recommended. After 33.8 hours. Sad face. Product refunded after point4 hours. Dog water game made by incompetent devs and led them to killing their only successful looter shooter. Well done. This, by the way, I could talk about the situation till my face turns blue. I don't know how to get the point across to people that do not understand right now that putting all your eggs in the basket of marathon is dooming your company. You are literally loading the gun right now to aim it at yourself like and and everyone's telling you don't Bungie don't do this. WHY ARE YOU DOING WHY WOULD YOU YOU YOU HAVE A SUCCESSFUL franchise that hundreds of thousands of people have enjoyed over the years and then you have Marathon that is completely failing and you're like, "Yeah, yeah, no. Marathon's the future of this company." The [ __ ] it is.
A source tells me Destiny is stable.
Please God, your source was wrong, sir. Terrible game. Destiny just died for Marathon to die with it. Sad generational fumble.
Daniel Freeman said, "They didn't kill Destiny for Marathon. They killed Destiny because it was a dying live service that was burning money. Marathon is also burning money, and it will probably be shut down once Sony is finished pushing out the content currently in the pipeline. Destiny has rarely been above 10,000 concurrent players on Steam in the last several months. Marathon is a live service that has lost over 80% of its players since launch. Bungie is a studio that employs 850 people and the revenues from these games are not covering their salaries.
Sony is cutting its losses on this studio.
So, the impairment loss that we heard of of around $800 million might have just been the beginning.
This is going to get a lot worse and it will never get better. Bungie as we know it is dead. Mark my words. This is in case you thought there was a chance of a rebound. This is them telling you we give up. We're done. We're We're moving on from the studio. Everyone who's working there, fries in the bag, thanks for your time. We're done, bro. We're moving on. And uh we don't feel bad about this at all. And we'll leave it at this. Asmin Gold, Destiny 2 has been killed so that Marathon can die. Great job, guys. Can't wait to see what you come up with next. Daniel Freriedman.
Sony paid $3.6 billion for nothing. One of the greatest cons in history. It's actually astonishing that Bungie, Bethesda, and Activision hauled themselves out with DEI, grotesque, short-sighted management decisions, money grubbing monetization, and wild contempt for key talent, and then salvaged the bag by selling themselves to Sony and Microsoft for top dollar right before the House of Cards started to collapse. We are so blessed that we'll get to see what happens when these dinosaur publishers collapse under their own weight to their bad decisions though because that's what's happening with EA and Ubisoft, which I've covered in a previous video. But yes, Emerald Apple Marathon is going to be dead soon as well. It's over. American Herb, they killed the wrong game.
This is the frustration that everyone's having with this right now. This right here, this this can't happen. This is insane.
I wonder what the conversations were like internally at Bungie when they were going over the numbers because like I've said many times when I cover the marathon situation, what feels like on a daily basis these days is I'm sure I've said this before in previous videos too.
I'm sure they've had communications uh all hands meetings uh desperate highlevel board member communications like we're boned. This is not good.
What's happening here is not sustainable. And it's basically you're in a submarine and the propeller stops working and you only have so much oxygen left and they're trying to figure out who who to uh move to a certain part of the submarine so that it's not taking up the air for the rest of the people. But at the end of the day, the submarine's still not coming up for air. So you can try to move the parts around all you want. The company's dead. It's over.
what you knew about Bungie before is just going to be a memory, a distant memory, uh, a great memory of amazing times we had back in the day. The Bungie now is a shell of what it was. And when it goes out, it's not going to go out with a bang. It's going to go out with a whimper. Mark my words, Sony is going to absorb Bungie in probably the next three to six months. And I wouldn't be surprised if Bungie as a brand disappears and you never hear about it again.
