Flintknapping a Novaculite Hardin

[00:00:05]Hey folks, EA. So, I got a piece of Novaculite here. I just got done making a Yonke point out of Knife River over Flint from uh from my friend Marty Young Bear.

[00:00:25]I did heat treat that knife river, but not as probably could have heat treated it more.

[00:00:32]Well, I know I could have made it a little easier to work.

[00:00:38]This is a pretty piece of evacuite. The colors will probably not show up on the on the TV, but this is pretty pink in here. It does have some issues. It's got a crack in right here. This is from the outside. It's a spall off the outside of the rock. And as you can see, there's some layers layering in here. So, we're going to try and skim as much of this outside here off and see what's left of it. I don't know what's going to be left. So, I don't not sure what I'm going to make.

[00:14:02]Jaden is actually in town today picking up a was picking up some oil for the saws.

[00:14:25]and a new belt for one of the saws cuz seem to have had a mishap this morning.

[00:14:34]Rock came out of the saw and bound it up, smoked the belt, and almost caught it on fire.

[00:14:53]That's why you should always try to be there to keep an eye on them, but that's not always possible with when you got a bunch of stuff happening.

[00:15:14]So, he had the some saws running and other ones he was another one he was cleaning.

[00:15:38]So this originally my intentions was to make a calf creek.

[00:16:14]and that's still my intentions.

[00:58:17]I've made some really nice calf creeks in the past and they seem to be struggling now, but get that done to my liking, you So, I was looking for a notch point in there that to go with, but I wasn't seeing it with that shape for the material. So, I don't know.

[01:15:38]which my favorite looking harden point is is a Jim Red Fern harden which is a Bob Harden. He makes a lot of those I've got a couple of his that he's made me.

[01:23:56]There's some hardens this one. Look how exaggerated the base is there. I really like that.

[01:24:20]Or like this here. Just rounded out. I like these like those to come up to a point. So, there a couple more flakes I could take on it. make it a little bit better probably. But there it is.
