Tornado Warning in Clarke County

[00:00:00]So, that means we're seeing more into the tops of these clouds. And then it gets a little gets a little complicated, but the Earth is obviously curved. It's not flat.

[00:00:08]And as the radar beam shoots out, it gets higher and higher above the Earth farther it goes. So, we're seeing higher into the clouds. If this was in say Baldwin County, we'd have a more clear picture of what was going on cuz they'd be closer to the radar site. But pretty far to the north like this, it kind of kind of gives us a a more of a murky picture of what's happening here. So, we just have to assume there's possibility of a tornado here. Once again, this is Highway 69.

[00:00:33]This is basically going up towards Campbell area. A lot of this land up here is land that is used for forestry and a lot of it for for for paper products and stuff like that. Not a whole lot of homes except for right along the main road here of 69. That's where you're going to find most of the residences and that's kind of where this thing is working its way down. So, we really want to be careful up here. If you live up here along Highway 69, please go to your you know, your safe room there in your house. Let this thing pass you by.

[00:01:02]Once again, this is another one of those quick spin-up kind of deals and we're probably going to see more of these already cuz of the heating of the day.

[00:01:09]We're already seeing the atmosphere.

[00:01:10]It's just The atmosphere is really loaded right now. It's just chock-full of moisture from top to bottom and that creates a lot of instability as this thing heats up cuz there's a lot for the atmosphere to work with and now we're seeing some quick spin-ups here on some of these as they work their way through Northwestern Clark County. So, you're right up here along Highway 69. I'm going to come over here on some of the other areas that we're looking at. Up here Bassey Road, Walnut Grove Missionary Church, Elam Baptist Church, Bassey Church, Chocktaw Corner, Hattomville, Nicholsville, Hoboken, Lasca. These are the areas once again that we are concerned with with this cell as it's working its way on through.

[00:01:52]So, I'm trying to keep a close eye here on the map as well. Once again, like I was said, a lot of this land up here is going to be a forestry land.

[00:02:00]Morvin area, I think, as well and Smiler areas where we're going to see some of these houses, once again, right along Highway 69, the very northwestern corner of Clark County. We can widen things out just a little bit. Hannah, meteorologist Hannah Fink is alongside me, and meteorologist Matt Barentine. Thank you so much for joining us here on Fox 10 today. Sorry to cut into Studio 10, but we're getting tornado warning. We're going to have a lot of active weather here today. It's going to be an active day overall. Um the biggest threat not going to be the tornadoes today. The biggest threat will be blinding heavy rain. That will be the biggest threat, especially since this is a huge travel day, right? So, everybody's getting out of town or go crossing through our area, a lot of them, to get off to to go to the beach, go do some things for the for Memorial Day weekend. And here we are dealing with some strong heavy rain, and that heavy rain, once again, is going to be causing the biggest issue. So, we got 100 lightning strikes or so in that one. The tornado warning is up through 11:00 a.m.

[00:02:58]here this morning. Set it towards the Glover area. So, here's Campbell, here's Glover, and Thomasville is right here.

[00:03:05]And we're going to keep a close eye to see how how close this circulation will come to Thomasville. Looks like it'll come fairly close, but this is a slow mover, so it's going to take some time.

[00:03:15]It's only going 20 mph, so Hannah's drawing out the the warn the um the tracker here. And once again, Smiler, Campbell, Talihina Springs, Glover, these are the the areas we're going to have to keep an eye on here as it continues to work its way to the northeast at around 20 mph. Hannah, are you getting any other word from from Slager from National Weather Service back at the >> not. They just have the tornado warning we're looking at right now. I don't see them dropping this anytime sooner or shaving it just because of how slow it is, and the rotation is pretty solid at this point. It's only radar indicated.

[00:03:48]There is nothing on the ground. Like meteorologist Matt Barentine said, "These storms throughout the day are going to produce these quick spinners and obviously another thing was you see a lot of lightning with it. These are some pretty intense thunderstorms as well. They're not severe, but they're definitely packing a punch. Heavy downpours throughout the day today, a lot of lightning. It is going to affect travel for Memorial Day weekend. A lot of people are coming from the north and a lot of people are going up to the north as well. So, that's something to keep in mind. These storms are going through some major highways that a lot of people are using for travel as well.

[00:04:20]Make sure if you are heading out on the roadways you have ways to receive warnings and can pull off to the off the road safely as well, especially with these thunderstorms that are not the most fast-moving at this time.

[00:04:32]All right. Yeah, let's let's back it out just a slight bit here, Hannah. I want to get back to more of the So, here's the the warning area. This is the northwestern corner of Clark County.

[00:04:42]We're going to have to watch out and see if it can hold together heading towards Thomasville. Right now, it's basically on top of Highway 69 around the Campbell area. So, it's north of Coffeeville. If you're in Grove Hill, this is going to be north of you as well. This is not going to impact you, at least not this cell, but there will be other obviously thunderstorms and other cells that are going to be coming through. And what's happening is that the atmosphere is so charged up right now with a with a ton of moisture and a very strong flow through the atmosphere. In other words, we're getting a lot of we call wind shear, stronger level winds in the upper levels. And that's been that itself by itself, but enough to cause some spin and that is what we're seeing with some of these storms that are right up here, pretty far inland here up in the northern part of Clark County. Uh then that is where we're seeing the most spin. If we kind of go around here in the velocity map, I don't think we'll see anything else of any real significance besides this one here.

[00:05:31]Uh yeah, I don't see anything else that pops out right away. Uh so, we're not This is the main area of concern as far as any severe weather is concerned. But once again, my my thinking here today is this isn't going to be the biggest threat anyway.

[00:05:43]The biggest threat will be that heavy rain cuz that will impact more people as they are driving around that blinding heavy rain. We just got the the box trimmed back a little bit so that as the this moves along, the National Weather Service does trim back the the warning here. Once right top of Highway 69 going towards Campbell, Tallahassee Springs. We got Bashy Road up here. This is 154 Highway 154 that goes through Tallahassee Springs. Then becomes 69 here and works its way up through Morven.

[00:06:12]And then we got once again, here's the track of it in just a few minutes.

[00:06:16]Spire, Campbell that just about about 15 minutes.

[00:06:20]Then Hortonville here is after that. So, once again, slow movers.

[00:06:25]This is going to be right along Highway 69 in the very northwestern part of Clark County. We'll see probably more of these spin ups. This is one we just saw spin up just a few minutes ago. We went on air for the for that original one and now another one has followed basically right in its footsteps. Almost the same exact area.

[00:06:43]Just probably will just a slightly bit more to the east because the overall line, so the storms are moving from basically from north south to north. But the overall line will gradually kind of work its way eastward and that's what we're seeing with this one. Also seeing probably some pretty gusty winds here.

[00:06:59]We're seeing it kind of bow out a little bit. That shows us that there's winds pretty strong winds and there we go. On the velocity imagery showing some pretty strong winds right there around Spire here.

[00:07:08]Spire I guess it's pronounced that way.

[00:07:10]Campbell is the next part place in line.

[00:07:13]Once again, most of this is forestry land. There's some houses though right along the roads. We do have residents that live up here. So right along right around Campbell area, there's number of residences and going back towards Tallahassee Springs as well there.

[00:07:27]Bashy Road, you got some heavy rain here. Here's Strawberry Lane, a few of the other roads that we got here for you.

[00:07:33]Um Dungan Road, Spire Road, Fail Town Road. So we got some other areas that we need to be keeping an eye on if you're anywhere near Highway 69.

[00:07:42]That's basically the bottom line here.

[00:07:44]If you're anywhere near Highway 69 in Northwestern Clark County, you need to be in your safe spot here and letting this thing go on by. Right now, we're not getting any other word on as far as what we're any more updates on this. This will go to 11:00 a.m. and it is a slow mover, so it might actually kind of it'll take a while for this thing to kind of work its way on to the north and west. So, a lot of these times we get tornado warnings, most of them are fairly quick. In other words, they're moving 50, 60 mph. These are going very slow, kind of within the line and um So, what Hannah's doing here, she's actually looping the velocity imagery, which is kind of giving us idea of exactly the movement here. We're keeping an eye on right there. That's the area we're watching. I know that it's kind of hard to pick out, but it ends up right right about here. So, right on top of Highway 69. That's That's the bottom line here. Other bottom line is try to stay off the roads today. We're going to have heavy downpours. You probably won't run into a tornado today, but you very well you almost certainly will run into heavy downpours. If you're out and about, you will run into that. Heavy rain, blinding rain, terrible driving weather and of course the traffic will be atrocious on top of that because this is the big travel day.

[00:08:54]So, we need to be really careful out there today and we'll we'll keep you obviously keep you informed here at Fox 10 as we go through the day. So, this will continue once again working its way up Highway 69.

[00:09:05]And Thomasville's right here. So, it's still pretty good distance from Thomasville. Like I said, it's moving slow, so my it probably at least that one may not hold together, but we'll have to keep an eye on to see if anything else tries to form along the line of the storms. We've already seen that happen before.

[00:09:20]So, what are you giving us measurement?

[00:09:22]Yeah, 16 miles. So, it'll be if it does keep up at 20 mph and it does manage to hold together, it'll take almost an hour to get into Thomasville proper. So, I it unlikely it holds together that long, but obviously we'll keep an eye on it for you here.

[00:09:35]Then so, they got that cell. That one's going to keep working off to the north and east. We widen widen things out just a little bit more, Hannah, and let's talk about what we got on the big picture here uh real quick. Once again, this is going to be a very active day as far as rain and thunderstorms are concerned, and you can see all the the action back here in in Mississippi and then going into Mobile County. And what do we else are we seeing here? Flash flood warning just popped up. Okay.

[00:10:01]One thing that's that could be very confusing um is that the tornado warning is like a bright red box and the flash flood warning is a crimson red box. I It's not the best way of things to I I I can't change that. Um but so that is a flash flood warning.

[00:10:19]Um that is here now. Can we zoom in a little bit on that? Uh cuz that is an immediate situation as well. It means we're starting to see uh the rain really pile up in this area. This will be for a very narrow window here. I guess they're basically following this storm that's down around Stockton. That's because they produced about 2 in of rain in less than an hour in that area. That is what warranted that flash flood warning there. Okay. 2 in of rain in less than an hour, and this is what I'm talking about with the driving situation. We know there's a ton of people going to be traveling back and forth on 65 here today. Uh obviously with this travel day. And now you got a flash flood warning, and it looks like they're expanding that even farther south here down towards Creola and uh back into Saraland and back into Mobile now. So basically this whole area now uh is being warned basically right up 65 is being warned for flash flooding. So that makes for awful driving conditions.

[00:11:10]Blinding rain.

[00:11:11]>> in in an hour, so that is why they expanded that there. 4 in in 1 hour. So I was running those accumulation models earlier this morning and they were showing 4 or 5 in of rain would be possible, and we're already seeing that.

[00:11:24]So this is going to be one of those days where we have to keep a close eye on to see if it we start getting into real flooding territory cuz that's generally kind of when you get a real flooding event, it kind of it kind of just has to build and and you see it happening as it goes along and we maybe start to see that happening cuz we're getting some very heavy rains and now we're seeing what the weather service reporting 4 inches an hour here in some areas. Also once again they still have that tornado warning. This is up in off to the west of Thomasville. It's not in Thomasville. It is to the west of Thomasville in northwestern Clark County up around Campbell right along Highway 69 and now the new velocity scan showing a pretty broad circulation here.

[00:12:06]But once again, this is a long way from any radar site so it's hard to get a real detailed picture of what's going on and that is a weakness that um that we have. There are some private radars that are going to come online that should start helping out getting us more information, but that's something to come in the future. So up here right now, this is what we have.

[00:12:29]We we we're going to have to keep watching this one continue to work its way towards Tallahassee Springs, Bascom Road. If you're in Thomasville, if you live on the west side of Thomasville here, you need to be closely watching this because we are going to be seeing this getting a little bit closer here soon if it can hold together and of course that's going to be a big if.

[00:12:46]Once again, the severe side of all this today is is not the part this part is not going to be the most destructive part of the day.

[00:12:55]Once again, it'll be what we have to deal with out on the roads. Just once again, be really careful driving around through some of this stuff. You can see how quickly these things can ramp up. We were didn't have a whole lot early this morning say around 7:00, 7:30 and then right around 7:30 or 8:00 in the morning these things really started to spring up very quickly and then over the last last couple of hours we've seen a lot of heavy rain and thunderstorms develop across our area and now we're seeing worse tornado warning, we're seeing multiple flash flood warnings and those flash flood warnings obviously are really really impactful for driving um and that'll continue to be the case here as we go through the day. So, it's going to be a very active day that we're going to track for you here as we go on through. What you looking at over there, Hannah? Nothing in particular. I was just seeing if they were going to uh they had any updates coming up. Still the same tornado warning. Nothing. They haven't mentioned anything in the Slack chat. The same warnings we have going on right now. We have the tornado warning going on currently in Clark County. It's current The rotation is very broad for the most part, but if anything is going to be over Fayette town in Campbell in probably the next 5 minutes. It is very weak rotation. It is radar indicated, but if you are in Clark County in those two areas I just mentioned, you're going to want to get into your tornado safe place which is on the lowest floor of your home or in the most interior part of your home as well. These thunderstorms are very slow-moving, but they're popping up quite quickly and that's one thing we've noticed with these areas of rotation. Some of these storms have been rotating all morning long, but I've not been able to keep up with it, but a few of them have. So, this looks to be the case as we go on through the rest of our Friday as well.

[00:14:34]So, if you're somebody who's planning to travel or is currently traveling, this is one thing you need to know on your commute in the next few hours or so because overall we're going to be tracking the potential for thunderstorms developing throughout the entirety of the afternoon as well.

[00:14:50]All right, Hannah. Um if you could, Hannah, let's let's see if we get some rain accumulations up and let's see what's happening with those um flash flood warnings. So, we're going to get into that. Uh and the reason why like I said that's important because a lot of times events like this, you know, you might start seeing little uh spin-up tornadoes like this one, possible spin-up tornadoes I should say. Uh but then some we find that the bigger threat as we roll through is the the heavy rain and we end up with big rainfall totals.

[00:15:17]And once again, we do have a flash flood warning and this is for Saraland. This is for Stockton or just off to the west of Stockton and but the real threat here is going to be right along I-65 and look at this. This is just the last hour and we're seeing these purples building up even the reds. Purple is an inch and a half. Yeah, there we go. This is in 1 hour. Yeah, 1 hour.

[00:15:41]So, this is going to cause major issues up here in Saraland. Let's zoom down here a little bit. Let's get into the um into the metro area there of Saraland cuz I want to see uh some of these areas that are been very impacted. Here's Satsuma, Saraland and you can see these red dots in there.

[00:15:57]That's where we're seeing now rainfall totals in the last hour of more than 2 and 1/2 inches. That is incredible stuff. So, that is going to cause issues when you get that much rain that quickly. It means the roads will fill up with water, the gutters will fill up with water.

[00:16:13]Once again, it gets very dangerous to drive around. So, we have a flash flood warning right now for Saraland, for Satsuma, for this whole area of uh Mobile County. Basically, right along I-65 is where we have that warning right now, that flash flood warning. And uh the the biggest threat from that will be out on the roads. Obviously, I-65. I don't know if we can pull up a DOT camera, guys, to see what's happening out there on I-65. Uh but once again, that will be where we're probably seeing some of the heaviest rain here for us across the area. So, we have a flash flood warning. You can see it. Here's the It's a very strange box. I think some of it's kind of going around the Delta area there.

[00:16:52]>> drawing it around it from the previous one. Um I'll point it out, but this is the previous one right here and then this is the newly drawn one that is in areas of Saraland and Satsuma. So, originally, we are looking up uh this one here. This is the one we've had for the last hour. This is the newly drawn one and I'm going to figure as these have been trailing thunderstorms, which means they're the same thunderstorms going over the same area as they're developing. That's why we're seeing so much rainfall in these areas. We've seen over 2 in of rain developing in less than an hour in these areas. And like Matt said, it's right over I-65, which is a major highway that a lot of people will be using to either get to us for the holiday weekend or to get out of the Fox 10 viewing area going to visit family wherever they may be visiting.

[00:17:38]So, these are some things to know on your commute is if you see puddles, try not to drive through them. Be very cautious on the roadway and pay extra attention.

[00:17:46]All right, thank you, Hannah. Yeah, so the the big thing here has been I've been talking about this a lot this morning is that our atmosphere right now is stacked from the from the bottom to the top full of moisture. We have deep tropical moisture that has flowed into the area. That flow last couple days is over in East Texas and Louisiana, parts of Mississippi. Now the flow is basically directly on top of us. That's what's That's what's increased our rain here for today and this is a going to be once again a very active day with all this heavy rain. We're back up here to Northwestern Clark County around the Campbell area, Highway 69. Uh there's still a broad circulation showing up in the velocity. That's these See the greens here and the reds here. That's showing the the winds are some are going towards the radar, some are going away from the radar. Then when they're close together like that, it's possibly spinning. And this is a sort of a broad spin it looks like in the atmosphere.

[00:18:37]Once again, it's a long way from the radar sites. It does make it hard to give you real get details on that. Uh so, we can Once again, it's a tornado warning. It'll be up through 11:00, so just a few more minutes. And Highway 69 is right there through Campbell. That has been the other uh for the previous storm was and this storm is going right down the the same line. That's That's the other key thing we talked about with the uh flash flood warning. These storms are going to run over the same spots over and over and over again. And that's why the rainfall totals are going to become so big like we just saw down there around Saraland where we've already seen 2 and 1/2 inches of rain or more in the last hour. So, once these things get cranking, they can dump a lot of rain. Let's put a Can we put this into motion? You'll kind of There we go. So, you can kind of see how they They're all kind of working their way in the same direction. All kind of going off to the north-northeast from the southwest, and they're just going to keep running over the same area. So, as they develop, they're they have so much moisture to work with. Once again, it the the atmosphere is saturated all the way through with deep tropical moisture, and this is the This is the kind of stuff that we see in the springtime when we get flooding events. So, uh but you have to kind of wait and see how they kind of work their way on through to see if they're going to actually start, you know, training along, and that's what appears to be happening. You can see that happening now up I-65 through Saraland, going up through Creola, and then into parts of Baldwin County up the Delta there. Uh also, once again, they have that tornado warning, that very small tornado warning now in the very northwestern part of Clarke County.

[00:20:10]Very active uh morning for us, and it's going to be an active day. In fact, I was figuring that the activity would pick up more in the afternoon. Well, I mean, it is already firing off, and that is because, once again, there's just so much moisture for these things to work with. It only took some small showers, and once those small showers developed, they just blew up really quickly and dumped started dumping a lot of rain. All right, Hannah is getting us back down this And again, it's confusing. You see that is a tornado warning, that bright red, and then the flash flood warning is this sort of crimson red. I wish it was a whole different color, but I don't get to make that decision. Um this So, that is a flash flood warning that is down there in Saraland right now, and it is once again heavy rain. We've been looking at that 2 and 1/2, maybe 3 inches of rain over the last hour, and that is basically right on I-65, so it's going to be causing rough travel here for folks that are out there on I-65.

[00:21:00]And once again, that That will be the biggest threats. We need to be keeping an eye on that. We'll probably actually um You might want to actually pull up the traffic tracker here in a minute just to check on that to see how we're doing there because it is going to be a rough go of it here headed up I-65 and I imagine it's causing some slow downs.

[00:21:19]Yeah, we could kind of see that there in the traffic tracker. When I was up there I was glancing at it. Yeah, there's definitely some slow downs happening there. There we go.

[00:21:27]So, hopefully we can keep folks from you know, having any wrecks here, but this is going to be really rough to drive through. Blinding rain here up I-65. So, if you're trying to get somewhere put it off for a little bit. But, you're going to have a rough go of it anytime today, okay? I'm just going to There's no no good way to avoid it cuz you're going to have to drive through it at some point most likely if you're going to be trying to get out of town. So, please be careful once again.

[00:21:52]Keep an eye on the radar. You can always download our Fox 10 Weather app and maybe able to kind of pick your way between storms.

[00:21:59]But, yeah, yeah, good good luck and be safe. I mean, it's going to be a rough day to travel.

[00:22:03]Once again, back up here to Northwestern Clark County that is a tornado warning in Campbell. And it it's it may be getting close to the end of its shelf life.

[00:22:13]Um, Matt, I did want to mention National Weather Service did just say we're watching another storm west of Bay Minette in the Delta. I'm going to pull up the rotation for a broad area of rotation that they were just tracking there. It's the one that we just saw. I was keeping an eye on it when I was fishing through the possibility for rotation. I'm going to pull it up.

[00:22:32]>> that that cell there that is dumping all the rain.

[00:22:35]>> Yes, it is going to be over.

[00:22:38]Let's see. Yeah, it says west of Bay Minette. So, we're going to be We're going to be right here. There it is.

[00:22:42]Yep. Right there.

[00:22:43]>> to zoom in a little bit more to see if we can see it. There's just so much lightning. It's kind of hard to see some of the rotation from a broad point of view.

[00:22:49]>> click off the lightning if you want. So, we got some right here. You see these bright greens and reds. It's a very broad rotation.

[00:22:57]That's why there's no warning here yet.

[00:22:59]Yeah, so So, keep an eye on this one for you, too. This is going to continue to track off to the north and east here just like um just like excuse me uh just like the the cell itself is. And that's right up 69. That is awful sit- situation there. Even if it's not a tornado and it doesn't appear to be a tornado yet, um that is some very strong gusty winds, obviously blinding rain.

[00:23:21]Um And we are going to continue this tornado warning up here going through Campbell because they're seeing the storm is continuing to produce decent rotation. It looked a little weaker a few scans ago, but I will say it has picked up a little bit and it is going a different direction now. Here is the new warning as we speak. Here's a look at it right here. The rotation is currently just west of Campbell. It is going to be moving more to the north-northeast compared to northeast like we originally thought. So, new tornado warning as we speak right now. This one is going to be until 11:30 and it is also a slow-moving storm as well.

[00:24:02]Yeah, this is one of those situations where we're getting some slow-moving spinners here in the very northwestern part of our viewing area up here around Campbell. The same area we just saw have a similar one come through. Uh a lot of this area up here is bottomland here around the Tombigbee where a lot of forestry land uh where trees are cut down, that sort of thing. Uh but but there are homes here along Highway 69 in the Campbell area and down Tallahatta Springs Road. So, we're going to keep an eye on this one for them. Uh once again, that has pretty some pretty bright greens though. So, we're seeing some strong winds here uh out of this one. Uh it's just a matter of know whether or not those are getting down to the ground. We got to treat them like they are, so you need to be in a safe place. Hopefully you already are if you're up there along Highway 69, if you're up here on Basye Road, if you're up here on Tallahatta Springs. Could zoom in a little bit more here for us, Hannah, and let's get into some of the some of the roads here that we're looking at cuz I was looking at around Witch Creek Church.

[00:24:56]Uh we got Elon Baptist Church, Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. Kind of just leaving off some of the um uh you know, touch points here, some of the uh way points up here in Northwestern Clark County, up around Morvin. Highway 69 is really where it's been going down towards Double Gates Road, Bashy Road, Talihina Springs, Bashy Bashy Baptist Church. So, um it is a once again, gusty winds are certainly here. Strong winds, heavy rain, lots of lightning, possibility of a tornado. This is going to be an active day here for us. The uh once again, the the tornado threat is is is low today.

[00:25:35]Uh it's what it's going to be the heavier rain that's going to cause more of the issues here for us across the area. Think we may want to go ahead and go back down and uh check out uh what's happening down here in uh I'm going to get us back down there to uh Bay Minette area. Want to check in on that one, see if that one's changed in the last couple of scans. So, yeah, there it is. So, still a pretty broad circulation here.

[00:25:56]Um let me go ahead and widen things out so I make sure I'm giving you the right information.

[00:26:00]There's one. So, here's multiple There we go. There's actually a few things going on here. Very kind of cluttered here on the velocity imagery.

[00:26:07]I know for a lot of folks, kind of hard to kind of get there see what we're looking at here. Let me get the reflectivity up so we're sure where the rain is. So, it looks like what's happening is right here along the leading edge of this cell is where we're seeing uh a lot of turbulence. And that turbulence with the wind shear can sometimes spin up tornadoes. So, that's what we're watching for here. This is going to be right out uh in front of uh Bay Minette here. It's just down the road here.

[00:26:33]Here's Hurricane Landing. Here is uh once again, that velocity image doesn't show much, kind of kind of cluttered right here right now. But, once again, it's very heavy rain. It's right on I-65 up there. It is blinding rain and the kind of rain that pools on the roads and makes driving extremely dangerous. So, be careful. If you got to get out on the roads, I would suggest you don't if you can help it. Uh back up here to northern Clark County. This is Campbell and this is where we've been keeping an eye on this very slow mover. Um once again, up around Woods Bluff and Campbell, Highway 69 headed up towards the county line there. It'll cross the county line within about 20 minutes or so, then work its way into Wilcox County.

[00:27:12]Once again, towards uh Morvin, Hotumville, and Nickelsville uh here for us today. So, it is a um Hopefully, if you're up here in northern Clark County, you've already done a job here of getting inside and getting away from uh windows.

[00:27:26]All right. So, that is what we got going right now. Obviously, it's going to be a very active weather day through the rest of the morning. Uh right now, we're going to get into our Fox 10 Midday.

[00:27:36]We'll of course keep you updated in any new warnings. We'll come right back here with you to keep you safe. So, we'll go ahead and head on to Fox 10 Midday.

[00:28:03]to Fox 10 Midday. We are still tracking the potential for some severe weather at this time. Meteorologist Matt Barentine and I are both here tracking the radar.

[00:28:13]We do have a current tornado warning in place just into Clark County. We're going to zoom into that right here in just a moment. This is our second uh tornado warning of the day. We are going to be continue to track this, and then we are tracking the possibility for more thunderstorms to possibly produce rotation throughout the Fox 10 viewing area. So, that is why we're here to keep you updated, Matt. Yeah, we kind of had to reset here at the top of the hour as we moved into Fox 10 Midday.

[00:28:40]We're going to keep you safe here as we get through the system. Once again, heavy rain. These things are firing up quickly. They started as a small little little showers, and they build very very quickly as we go along. You can see right now we do have this rotation here up around Campbell. This is going to be working its way off to the north and west. This one's going to be up through 11:30, I believe. Yeah, 11:30 on that one if it lasts that long. Obviously, there it's going to be pretty close to the county line there so it may be extended into the next county.

[00:29:08]And moving out of our area. If you're in Thomasville, you still aren't being impacted by this just yet.

[00:29:14]It's still there off to the west of you.

[00:29:15]If you're in Coffeeville, you can see all the lightning here just to the north of you in West Bend, but it right now in Coffeeville, it's not too bad yet.

[00:29:23]But obviously, we're seeing some pretty heavy rain and thunderstorms up here and along with the tornado warning. That is that bright red box right there. That is the tornado warning that is up through 11:30.

[00:29:34]Also, the other side of the story is the extremely heavy rain. We're going to be getting multiple inches of rain. We have a a flash flood warning right now for Saraland and Satsuma. We have seen 2 and 1/2 inches of rain in just the last hour, 3 inches of rain in just the last hour in that area and that is working its way right up I-65. So, creating really rough conditions out there for us here today. So, it's going to be a very active day. I'm going to go and back out here. Let you see the whole picture here. Once again, we're going to be tracking a number of showers and storms here for you throughout the morning. And as we head towards lunchtime here, that darker red box, like I said, it's confusing cuz they're similar colors.

[00:30:12]That crimson colored box, that is the flash flood warning that is for Saraland, Satsuma, going up towards Creola, going right over I-65.

[00:30:22]Um that continues to uh continues to work its way off to the north and east, but the main thing here is that the storms keep running over this air same areas over and over again.

[00:30:32]That's that's how you get flash flood issues. When you get these storms working their way from south to north and then they just keep running over the same spots over and over again. and the other factor here is that the atmosphere is completely saturated with tropical moisture from the bottom to the top. The whole atmosphere, the whole column of the atmosphere is very saturated, and so the more obviously the more moisture you have in the atmosphere the more rain that the atmosphere can drop, and that's the basic physics of it, and it's a it's a big time setup for that today. So, this is what I was talking about earlier this morning. The only thing that surprises me about this is how early this has started. I was expecting this to happen more into the afternoon, but this has started pretty early. The atmosphere is really juiced up and ready to go. We are watching out for these quick spin-up tornadoes, which is probably what we're seeing here or possible tornado, I should say, up around the Campbell area. It hasn't moved much here in the last little bit.

[00:31:28]It's a very slow mover. It's headed up towards the county line, and it should be working its way out. Looks like Hannah, are you checking out the latest update? Yeah, I am. It's still at 11:30 is what we're tracking for this thing to expire. And as you can see, 11:30 is when we're expecting it to exit out of the Fox 10 viewing area. These are very slow-moving storms. They're bare They're They're barely moving about 10 to 15 mph. One of the things we're tracking at this time is there's a few areas of possible rotation as we go on throughout the day today. So, right now we have this current tornado warning in Clark County. We're looking at the possibility of very weak broad rotation right now near the area of Bay Minette. It is not a tornado warned storm at this time, but that's just one thing we're noticing with these storms is they are kind of popping up quite quickly, but they're moving slowly, and they are trying to rotate as we go on throughout the day today. We still have that flash flood warning in place. That'll last through the afternoon, and that is something that is very important to note for people who are getting out on the roadways just because we are going into a holiday weekend, and it's on a major roadway, too. we're near highway six we're on near I-65 at this time. I'm going to pull up the estimated rainfall in the last hour to give you guys a better idea as we go on.

[00:32:47]So, you're seeing a lot of purples and reds here. That is about two and a half to three inches of rainfall in the last hour. So, that is the reason we have this flash flood warning in place and as you can see it is right along I-65 near Saraland and Creola. That is where you're seeing that purple and red there.

[00:33:03]So, we have flash flooding as a problem today and then also this is going to be the main issue is going to be the heavy rainfall cuz as you can see I'm going to zoom out these thunderstorms are moving from the southwest. So, what does that mean exactly? It means they're going to continuously move over the same area.

[00:33:19]So, I'm going to put this in motion. As you can see they're not really changing in direction very much and some of them are trying to spin. We are in our second tornado warning of the day and we're tracking other areas of possible rotation as well. So, we're going to go back into that tornado warning and give you an update.

[00:33:36]All [snorts] right, thank you there Hannah. Yeah, so once again as Hannah's mentioning all these storms are kind of moving off in the same direction and when they do that and they start what we do they called we call training trains down the track. So, they they keep running over the same areas over and over again. In fact, we've had Campbell's had two tornado warnings here. So, there's been two tornado warnings and they've both been through the same area.

[00:33:57]You see that here and you can probably And then I was about to say look there's another area. These this is the area that has had the same consistent rotation. It started over West Bend by the time it's gotten to Campbell it has become a tornado warned storm. So, that is probably our fourth area of rotation we're going to be watching this morning.

[00:34:15]I know the National Weather Service is already on it. They're probably going to note that they're keeping an eye on it and then we'll see if they do issue a tornado warning for that in the next 15 to 20 minutes. The only problem with this is these storms are so slow moving that our radar imagery when we get a new thing in it usually doesn't look very different cuz they're not moving very fast. Yeah, these are some very slow movers here. Although, look at the reflectivity. We are seeing a little bit of a bend there. So, we're going to be watching out for that here for us. All right. So, that's what we got going right now. We've got a number of showers and storms going on right now. Looking at heavy rain and thunderstorms across the area. We anticipated some heavy the heavy rain. Uh the tornadoes here are going to be once again these quick spin-ups we're going to have to watch out for at the basically at the leading edge here of these storms is what we're looking at. Right at the very leading edge. This is where we're getting the most turbulence in the atmosphere, the most wind shear.

[00:35:07]>> just note that they're keeping an eye on that wooden Coffeeville right now. So, I'm going to pull up the thing again.

[00:35:12]Here is what we're keeping an eye on for the possibility of broad rotation. It is not circulating enough to be strong enough for tornado warned storm, but based off of the next few images we get, we will know if they're going to warn it. It's probably going to take the same track again. So, if you're in the area of Campbell, Coffeeville, these areas here, I'm going to zoom in a little bit just so we can see those locations a little bit better.

[00:35:35]We're probably tracking the potential for more storms to make it. It's currently over Womack Hill at this time.

[00:35:41]This is where that broad area of rotation is. And if anything, it's probably going to continue the same path going towards Campbell. So, that is one thing to note there. National Weather Service is looking into this to see if it will be a tornado warned storm or not. All right, Hannah. A quick reset here. We have a tornado warning the very northern part here of Clark County. We also have flash flood warnings for Saraland, Satsuma, and for some other areas going across into Baldwin County.
