Without getting late, let us get started. Guys, first let us talk about unit number one. In unit number one, poetry is Strange Meeting which is written by Wilfred Owen. Guys, first let us talk about the poet. Wilfred Owen was a famous English war poet and soldier.
His poems mainly talk about the pain and suffering caused by war. He strongly supported peace and humanity. Guys, this is about the poet. Now, if we talk about the poem, this is a powerful anti-war poem. Okay? The speaker, he escapes from the battlefield and enters a dark underground place. There he meets a dead enemy soldier whom he had killed during the war. Okay? But instead of anger, both understand each other's pain and suffering. So, the enemy soldier here says that war destroyed you to junk here. This has been destroyed our dreams, youth, and happiness. So, basically, the poem clearly shows that war only brings death and sorrow. So, the poem gives a message that war destroys humanity. Enemies are also human beings and peace is more important than war. Actually, this poem becomes easy once you understand the anti-war theme. Okay? This is about Strange Meeting. Now, if we talk about prose, prose here is The Piece of String by Guy de Maupassant. First, let us talk about the author. Guy de Maupassant was a famous French short story writer. His stories mainly focus on society, ordinary people, and human weakness.
Now, if we talk about the story, this lesson is about a poor farmer named Hauchecorne. One day, he picks up a small piece of string from the road because he thinks it might be useful later. But later, a wallet goes missing in the market. Guys, immediately, people suspect Hauchecorne of stealing it because they saw him bending down. Even though he repeatedly says that he only picked up a string, nobody believes him.
Later, the real wallet is found, but still people continue doubting him. The rumors and humiliation, all the all that particular things affect him deeply, and finally he dies sadly. So, the story gives a message that rumors can destroy lives. Okay, the lives are destroyed and society judges quickly and reputation is also very important thing.
Okay, this is about the piece of string.
Now, if we talk about the critical reading letter to George Latham, here the author is Abraham Lincoln. He was the 16th president of America. Guys, he is remembered for his honesty, leadership and determination. His words continue to inspire people even today.
Yes, he is a very great inspiration or example of honesty, leadership we can say. Now, if we talk about the lesson, this is a motivational letter written to a student named George Latham. Okay, here who written the letter? Letter is written by Abraham Lincoln. Guys, George felt disappointed after getting rejected from Harvard University. Okay, so here Lincoln explains that failure is normal part of life and one rejection cannot decide a person's future. So, he encourages George to stay confident, work hard and never lose hope. According to Lincoln, success comes through patience, courage and determination. So, the lesson gives a beautiful message failure is not the end, hard work brings success and confidence is very important. Now, you already got a clarity about a poem, prose and critical reading from unit number one. Strange meeting is anti-war theme poem and the piece of string is about rumors and reputation.
Letter to George Latham is about motivation after failure. So, you already got a clarity. Now, I suggest you to just pick one summary from unit number one. Either go with the poem or with the prose and what to do with the additional reading, I will be saying you at the end of this video. So, definitely watch the video till in end. Now, let us talk about unit number two. In unit number two, poem is After Apple Picking by Robert Frost. First, let us talk about the poet. Robert Frost was a famous American poet, guys. His poem mainly talk about nature, life, and human experiences. He used a simple language with deep meanings, okay? Now, if we talk about the poem, this poem is about a man who feels very tired after picking apples all day. Even after finishing the work, he keeps thinking about the apples. Here, the apples in the poem represents goals and achievements, guys. Some apples are carefully picked, while some fall down and they get wasted. So, this represents success and missed opportunities are present in life. The speaker also talks about sleep, which may symbolize deep rest or even death. So, basically, the poem mainly talks about hard work, dreams and ambitions, tiredness of life, and rest after after struggle, okay? So, this is about After Apple Picking.
Now, we have our prose, which is Filmmaking by Satyajit Ray. Satyajit Ray was a famous Indian filmmaker, guys. And also, at the same time, he is a writer.
He is known for realistic films and emotional storytelling, okay? Now, if we talk about the lesson, this essay is about Ray's experiences in filmmaking.
He explains that filmmaking is not easy as he first imagined. Even simple scenes need careful planning, camera work, timing, and coordination. Ray also talks about the struggles he faced while making films like Pather Panchali, guys.
According to him, human emotions are more important than technology in cinema. So, the lesson mainly talks about struggles in filmmaking, creativity, patience, as well as learning through experience, okay? This is about the prose, Filmmaking by Satyajit Ray. Now, we have Critical Reading, The Method of Scientific Investigation. If we talk about the author, author here is T. H. Huxley, who was a a English scientist and teacher. He worked to make science easy and understandable for everyone. Okay, now if we talk about the lesson, this passage explains that scientific thinking is actually very simple. According to the author, everyone uses scientific thinking in daily life. Scientific investigation includes observation, guessing, testing, and conclusion. For example, when we lose something, okay, we think carefully and search step-by-step until we find it, right?
That's what it is about key I'm look everyday life may scientific investigation use karate.
The lesson explains that science is not difficult, guys. It is simply logical thinking and common sense. So here the passage encourages people to think logically, observe carefully, and develop a scientific attitude. Now you already know about this scientific investigation or this critical reading.
Now you have to decide which one you have to choose. Okay, additional reading I will say you later, but in poem or prose choose anyone. Now next in unit number three poetry or poem is The New Colossus by Emma Lazarus. Here the poet is Emma Lazarus. She was an American poet and social activist. Her poems mainly focused on humanity, equality, freedom, and compassion. Okay, now if we talk about the poem, this poem is about Statue of Liberty. Where is Statue of Liberty present? It is in America. So the poet compares it with the ancient Colossus of Rhodes. But unlike the old statue which symbolized power, the Statue of Liberty represents kindness, hope, and freedom. The statue welcomes poor and suffering people who come searching for a better life. And the torch, if you see Statue of Liberty, that lady will be holding a torch. That torch in hand symbolizes light and guidance. So, here this poem gives a message that help others, treat everyone equally, as well as humanity is true greatness. Okay, this is about the New Colossus. Then we have the Bishop's Candlesticks, which is prose from unit number three. First, let us talk about the author. Author here is Norman McKinnel.
He was a Scottish playwright and actor.
His writings mainly focused on kindness, forgiveness, and human values, guys, as you can see on the screen. Now, if you talk about the play, this is a touching story about kindness and forgiveness. Okay, one night a convict enters the Bishop's house after suffering a difficult life in prison.
There was a convict who was in prison, so he came to this Bishop's house.
Instead of fearing him, the Bishop gives him food and shelter. But later, the convict steals the Bishop's silver candlesticks and he runs away. Okay, when the police catch him, the Bishop surprisingly tells them that he gifted the candlesticks to the convict. So, this kindness, it completely changes the convict's heart.
So, the play gives a beautiful message that kindness can change people. It can forgive.
Forgiveness is also powerful, and everyone deserves a second chance, basically. Then we have our critical reading, which is higher education. Here our author is Jyotirao Phule. He was a great Indian social reformer. He fought against caste discrimination and supported education for poor people and women, we can say. Now, if you talk about the lesson, this passage talks about the importance of education. Okay, Phule says education should not be limited only to rich people. According to him, poor students also deserve equal opportunities, and that is absolutely correct. He explains that education helps society to grow and bring equality. This lesson says that government should support education properly. So, basically, guys, this passage gives a message that education is important for everyone. Equality in education is necessary and education helps society progress as well as to develop our country. So yes, this is about higher education. The New Colossus is about freedom and humanity. Bishop's Candlesticks is about kindness and forgiveness. Higher education is about importance of education. This was the complete overview. Now you got a clarity about what lesson is about each lesson her poem and prose kiss by you already come to know. Now from each unit either choose poem or prose and you are having three critical readings. Each critical reading in each unit just go get perfect with two critical readings of two units.
