Using neuroscience to over-analyze a fictional archer is a classic attempt to give pop culture a veneer of academic prestige. It’s a textbook example of over-intellectualizing simple entertainment to sound more profound than it actually is.

Absolute Green Arrow is insane!Added:
Absolute Green Arrow is a freaking menace, going around the absolute universe and taking down billionaires who are legit PDFs. And he cuts off Hector Hammond's freaking arm off. LIKE LOOK AT THAT. There's also potential suspects for being the absolute Green Arrow. It could be Roy Harper, Mia Dearden, or Tom [music] Holloway. Which honestly, I hope it's Roy. I am begging it's Roy. We also get a lot of information on Oliver Queen in the absolute universe. He created a big freaking app where he became a billionaire from it. And I guess Black Canary and him actually dated until he actually cheated on her. Speaking of Oliver, in a crazy twist, Black Canary found out that I guess Oliver was messing with underagers, I guess. Like what? This book was phenomenal, guys.
This is Absolute Green Arrow issue one, the brand new series. And honestly, I like how this Absolute Green Arrow is moving, dude. Seriously. We start off in Star City with this guy named Jubal Slade, which I guess was a partner with Oliver Queen who created the app. And he's on the phone drinking some wine saying, "Dude, what are they going to do? Anyone tries anything, they're going to end up like Oliver Queen. You saw what Hammond did to him. You kidding? I wanted to watch. Least Hammond could do after I gave 300 million dollars to pack of his. Queen took my company. Yeah, the New Guards are Hammond's personal stock.
Totally ex-military. Like the legit killers who topple governments and His security guard gets a freaking arrow to the skull.
Jubal starts freaking out saying, "What the hell?" And on the phone he's like, "Hello? Jubal, are you there?" He's like, "No, no, no." He goes to the room and all of these security guards are dead. He's like, "Guys, some maniacs Oh god, what's going on?" And then somebody in the hallway says, "Mr. Slade." One of his men actually got shot in the back by this arrow and it's actually a poison dart. He's like, "No, stay back. Stay back." And he looks like a freaking monster. And Jubal Slade's like, "Hey, hey, whoever you are, I'll pay whatever you want, okay? All right? [music] Just tell me what you want." "I want an example." And we see the long bow killer, that's his nickname. But realistically, it's Green Arrow or absolute Green Arrow. And he takes out Jubal Slade. Ching ching ching ching ching. Now we get a news broadcast saying details are still unreleased concerning the death of billionaire Jubal Slade, a tech entrepreneur [music] best known as the co-founder of the electronic trading platform Green Arrow's Trading. Jubal Slade made headlines after his public feud with Green Arrow's co-founder Oliver Queen, leading Slade to leave the billion-dollar company. He most recently became the subject of controversy after numerous allegations of, you know, misconduct with, I guess, [music] women and stuff. But, you know, it resurfaced.
And also, they're on TikTok, by the way.
That's crazy. Even content creators were talking about like every time you talk about it, how there was a a trafficking ring on an island. Yeah, if you talk about that, you [music] know, the algorithm pushes you away. This lady on TikTok, right, is like, "That's Oliver [music] Queen, co-founder of Green Arrow's Trading, the stock app. His recent murder was unsolved. And now, less than a year later, his ex-partner is murdered, too. Guys, we really don't think there's a bigger story here."
Which, honestly, she's onto something.
That's when we meet up with Dinah Lance, >> [music] >> Black Canary in the absolute universe.
And basically, we hear this narration saying this study is in Berkeley found that making people think about money by just innocently sitting them near a screen saver [music] showing dollar bills has an antisocial effect. And now, she's a security guard for like rich people in a club. It made them less invested when helping an assistant who dropped things near them. And somebody pushes her. "Will you move?" Another study shows people primed to think of themselves as upper class are more likely to take candy from a jar labeled for kids. And the guy that pushed her, right, is trying to record saying, "You're in the way, you stupid dumb more likely to take candy from babies." And she punches him in the mouth.
Dinah Lance is actually talking to, I guess, her psychiatrist or a doctor. And her doctor says, "I'm surprised you were suspended." And Dinah is like, "Well, guess the pop star liked me." Well, it'd be easy to find out if she did, you know? You said you were allowed to talk to your clients to share your thoughts.
Hmm, and doesn't say anything. And the doctor is like, "Last time we talked about how all this might be [music] connected to what happened after your mother." Dinah tells her, "You want to know my thoughts? I read online about this professor who [music] studies social neuroscience. He found having more money tends to suppress the mirror neuron system, the part of the brain that allows us to put ourselves in someone else's shoes to empathize. And why should they? The rich always get what they want. So, when I work for the obviously loaded ones, I try not to care, too. I shut up and do my job." And the doctor is like, "Okay. And it makes you angry. You can't do more, huh?"
"Well, I'm not.
>> [music] >> I'm just tired. Last lesson, you used the word numb." "Yeah, sure, that word."
Doctor Green tells her, though, like, "Dinah, if you hate your job so much, you can just quit." She's like, "Yeah, right, in this economy." But the doctor is like, "What about the MMA stuff that you did, like you were doing before?"
And Dinah is like, "Not enough, all right? It's just not enough." "How's your father doing?" And I guess her father, right? Black Canary's father is like very sick and has to pay medical bills. And Dinah works for these nasty people so she can actually pay, I guess, the medical. And the bodyguard gig pays well. [music] The world's got a tons of rich jerks. So, I suck it up for dad. Of course, now I'm suspended. But there's this sister firm offering me some special assignment. No idea, but guess I'll find out when I meet this Malcolm Merlin guy at the Hector Hammond Industries. And then this guy is like, "Your file says you're a former Star City police turned rising star MMA fighter, Dinah Black Canary Lance, turned executive protection specialist.
Hmm, quite the path." And I guess uh Dinah says, "And apparently this promotion this sister firm is offering to to one of the most, I guess, loathed men, America's most loathed men. CEO Reese Tyler filed for bankruptcy, letting his billionaire friend Hector [music] Hammond buy out his assets. And that's how Merlin got involved with Hector Hammond Industries. But that's when Dinah's like, "Mr. Berlin, you want me to protect him? I got to spend it guarding a pop star." "Ms. Lance, did you talk to Oliver Queen before he died or Jubal Slade?" And she's like, "No, not since we were roommates, but that was a long time ago." That's when we get a flashback from 8 years ago, right? And this is Oliver Queen. They were both dating, right? And they were trying to, you know, start [music] this billionaire uh tech app company. And I guess Jubal Slade was actually the one creating it, but Oliver Queen was like the head guy, right? Like he's the CEO.
>> [music] >> And of course, Jubal Slade could never talk to women. Like he was always a pansy. He needs to get out more, Ollie.
Well, I've tried. He just stares at girls at parties. And that's when Dinah's like, "So, you're starting a business with him?" "Well, we've been roommates since college. He's harmless.
But this app, it could give regular people better access to money. And that's how real change starts, working the system. Because redistributing wealth means redistributing power."
Which is true. The system, you got to manipulate it to your personal gain.
Destroying it does not work. Of course, Ollie did. He raised the financing for Jubal's app. He always could [music] convince people to take the chance. The Green Arrow's trading app launched over 250,000 sign-ups in its [music] first month.
People hungry for cheaper way to invest.
Of course, by that point, I was long gone, having caught Oliver cheating on me. I'm like, "Damn it, Oliver!" 10 million users later, Ollie and Jubal transformed the online brokerage industry and became billionaires. Ollie branded his logo, those green arrows, on everything, becoming the operations' handsome face, which probably made it easier to push Jubal out [music] after the allegations rolled in. Cuz Ollie was still trying to do the right thing until he died. Yeah, we saw this in absolute evil. Dinah tells Merlin saying, "The jobs related to Dru-Zod's murder, we want to increase the protection details around Tyler and my boss." Your boss, Hector Hayman? Why does he think the killer's targeting him? "Not our job, Ms. Lance. The principal thinks they're in danger. We protect, [music] no matter what." Merlin then says, "We've combed through every executive protection specialist in our extended network looking for anyone with law enforcement experience to not just protect the client, but find this killer." You were suggested, not because you were police, but because you knew Slade and Oliver Queen. [music] And you think their deaths are related? Swipe up the next image, madam. That's when she finds out about Dru-Zod Slade.
All of his fingers were cut off. He was sliced up. Two arrows in his eye, and that was out of his body. Because I guess, again, Dru-Zod Slade had PDF [music] allegations. Which, honestly, this legendary killer or Longbow Killer, whatever his name is, shout out to him.
And we have potential suspects as Roy Harper. I'm like, "Okay, absolute Roy Harper. That's awesome." Mia Dearden and Tom Holloway. And I guess these people were celebrating the death of Dru-Zod Slade online. Like they're torturing, right? And so, [music] that's where Merlin thinks that these people might be the legendary or Longbow Killer. Before Dinah came and said, "No, I can't."
Which she does say it. She doesn't want to take this job. Hector Hayman shows up. And he's security guy, right? And he's like, "Hector, I tell you, [music] I found her in the files myself. Oliver Queen's ex-police officer girlfriend is a professional bodyguard. While we have a problem with Green Arrow's obsessed stalker, >> [music] >> Kismet?" She says, "Actually, um I can't take this assignment. My dad's sick. And uh what?" Merlin, hand me the tablet.
[music] So, sweetie became a bodyguard to help her daddy's doctor bills. That's That's in my file. I never No. No, grownups are talking. And I'm guessing insurance covers half of daddy's bills.
It's never enough, huh? But work for us, you'll never have to worry again.
Really? Except oh no, daddy just lost all of his coverage. He can't pay for anything now. Wait, what what? Go home and check doll, okay? And then rethink of what you actually did, all right? And I'm like Hector Hammond is an [ __ ] and we know this from the absolute [music] Green Lantern book. And when she goes home, she finds out that her father's medical is just gone. Like he doesn't have it anymore and her father feels bad because he feels like he failed her because she's failing, right? And that's what a parent really wants, which is true. So I actually feel bad for Black Canary and her own father. Which means I need to take the money fast and [music] quit the shop because Hammond and Tyler are actually insane. For months they've been trying to crack the security of all these Doomsday bunker, his Arrow Cave.
And on my first day, we see that they're actually going to this bunker. No, it's here. I know [music] it. And that's what Hector Hammond says, but Dinah says, whatever the hell they thought of, Ollie was hiding here, it was important enough for them both personally come and look for it. We damaged the power lines breaking [music] in. Fortunately, these idiots brought enough of their trained killers / bodyguards to keep [music] them safe. But a bunch of arrows come in.
All of them get attacked by these arrows and including Tyler right [music] here, who gets slashed just barely. And that's when Dinah blocks it and stops it, right? And she's like, "Hey, are you all right?" "Yeah, I'm fine. I got scratched though." It was actually a poison dart.
So that's when Black Canary is like, "Guys, do not get hit by these darts."
But then an arrow with their grenade comes right in and hits the car.
Where the Longbow killer shows up. And I'm like, "Bro, the aura on this guy is insane." And Black Canary is like, "I got to get up to kill her. The Green Arrow killer. I I got to move." But she can't, she's injured. He moves so fast and takes out all the bodyguards. I mean, slices them up. Ching ching ching ching ching. Taking them all out. And she literally said, "His form, his speed, who the hell fights like this, right?" And now the last man standing is actually Hector Hammond. He grabs Hector saying, "You know what you did with Oliver Queen?" That wasn't me. I didn't kill him. It was Carter talking about Hawkman. And we see Green Arrow cut his freaking ARM OFF. CHING!
IT DOESN'T MATTER. IT'S TIME YOU all finally face the consequences. And she grabs her weapon, right? Black Canary does, and so it's firing.
He jumps in the fire, right? And that's when Hector's like, "Ah, my hand.
Please. Please help me. Please." Dinah says, "Because I don't know what was more disturbing. While his arm is completely slashed up, bleeding everywhere, watching Haman scream as he stares at his bloody stump of an arm after Killer Croc just threatened to hack him into pieces, or knowing I'm smiling watching this monster suffer.
Like, I actually feel bad for Black Canary here. She doesn't want to work with this guy, but he's got all the money in the world." Later on, we actually see Black Canary get inside the bunker, and she says, "After the fire, after Hector Hammond's rushed into [music] the hospital, Merlin and I scoured for what's left for clues. I think about how Ollie reacted to someone killing in his name with his actual symbol, because I still remember all of our talks about changing things from within and doing it right." She looks over saying, "This wall is fake, Merlin.
[music] The explosion must have jarred it loose." And we see that they start opening the safe. She's like, "Residue showed no one's accused of opening it in months, which means this must have been Hammond what was looking for. The secret Ollie hid. The man who always tried to do the right thing by working the system. We had later verified the boy's body [music] had clearly been dead for a while, although somehow not decomposed.
If only was that the strangest part."
And we see this boy with a bunch of eyeballs on it. What is going on? She says, "Damn it, Ollie. What the hell were you up to?" And now this is showing that Oliver Queen was actually corrupted, too. Her mind just went upside down. I loved this first issue.
