[00:00:12]So, I came across this video where Asians are talking about what happened to Cyrus and they are pissed. But, there is a statement one of them made that I do not appreciate and I would not When I don't care who you are, but do not ever use this word, even if he stole.

[00:00:39]Do not associate whatever that happened to him with stealing because Cyrus did not take anything out of that store. Let's Let's keep it as he never stole anything from the store.

[00:01:02]And they are all acting confused. I am going to ask, why are Asian community not talking about what what is going on?

[00:01:11]Because at this point in time, you guys have to fight the anti-blackness that runs in your community. It is not my people that will help you fight it. You guys have to be the one to do it.

[00:01:41]>> Civilians to serve as judge, jury, and executioner. It is not even the role of police officers. The death penalty is very rarely dealt out in this country and never for something as innocuous as maybe shoplifting. Civilian gun owners need to get this through their head. We also need to probably not have civilian gun owners, but you know, that's my opinion. This is not Rick Chow's first go-around. Cyrus Carmack Belton was not his first victim, apparently. It doesn't matter if that 15-year-old black kid actually did have a gun as they claimed.

[00:02:10]Why do we treat everybody else with a gun so differently than a black person with a gun?

[00:02:15]And so what if he was stealing? So what?

[00:02:17]Billionaires steal from us all the time, and they don't get pew pewed at. But again, as broken as this country is right now, and as unfair as we know the judicial system to be, it is not the role of civilians to be judge, jury, and executioner to teenage boys. And for the Chinese community and Asian community at large, if you let this drag you back into anti-blackness race war nonsense, we're giving the white fascists exactly what they want. That man is to have his firearms license taken away from him and go to prison for murder for the rest of his life. His His son needs to go to jail, too. I think there might be still hope for him because he's young, he's still a minor. But whatever horrible racist thoughts his father put through his head, he needs to unlearn them before he can rejoin society. It is not the role What if Asian Americans made racism as taboo as murder? Or at least your kid not getting into a good college because racism does lead to death. Rick Chow and his stupid-ass family killed Cyrus Carmack Belton, a 14-year-old black kid, over allegedly stealing a bottle of water. He didn't steal. And from watching the footage of the trial and from the fact that Rick has had over 100 such incidents in the past where people have called the police on him for waving a gun around at ostensibly black people. They thought this was no big deal. They probably murdered this kid and were okay with themselves. They've been harassing black people for years and were They didn't see anything wrong with it. Their community didn't see anything wrong with it. No one held them accountable. Looking at their son in the trial, he doesn't seem to give a [ __ ] And Asians, I know we're great at public shaming. Have you ever watched one of those like empress dramas? Or the emperor with his 100 concubines in the imperial palace in China? We're great at plotting. We're great at publicly shaming people. Let's do this every time someone says or does something racist in our community so that it doesn't escalate to [ __ ] like this anymore. Cuz now that one of us has done something [ __ ] up, the entire community looks bad. See, cuz we're not white. We're never going to be white. They're never going to see us as white. I've had a lot of black people on this app tell me they're not going to support Asian-owned businesses anymore because they think we all might be like that. You don't know whether we're all like that, so I don't blame them. They can do whatever they want. I also don't like associating with Asian people who might be anti-black.

[00:04:18]Cuz y'all say weird as [ __ ] [ __ ] to your own people, too. You worship white people, you want to be like them. That's why this guy Rick Chow was going around waving a gun. He thinks he's like a cowboy or something. No, you're a middle-aged Chinese uncle. Get over yourself. You're not vigilante justice.

[00:04:32]You're just an [ __ ] and a murderer now. Asians have gotten better at canceling our racists online, but we need to take it like offline, too, okay?

[00:04:40]If you're in a store and you see somebody following a black person around for a little too long, maybe just ask them, "Hey, what's going on? Can I help you?"

[00:04:49]If an Asian person near you invokes a stereotype about black people or another minority, don't expect you to laugh.

[00:04:55]Just say, >> [laughter] >> "I don't think that's funny. Can you explain why that's funny?" Name names.

[00:05:00]We Asians, we care so much about our social standing. We care about the white people thinking that we're great. We care that other Asians think that we're doing great. If you know a Asian racist, blast them because the spate of incidents over the past few months, I've seen it on my page. It is breaking solidarity between minority groups. Not that there ever like really was that much in the first place. The 1960s was the last time that, you know, we really had our [ __ ] together. But yeah, if we can't get our [ __ ] together, the white people win. Just to be clear, it's not on black people to fix this. Y'all never did anything wrong. Honestly, [ __ ] Rick Chow and his entire family. Black lives matter. So, >> Last Sunday, an Asian-American convenience store owner in Columbia, South Carolina, Rick Chow, shot and killed 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack-Belton in the back after wrongly accusing him of stealing water.

[00:05:47]And because this bears so much resemblance to the murder of Latasha Harlins from 32 years ago, it's hard to resist the feeling that we've made no progress.

[00:05:56]I know that we have made progress. I see work being done. I see exchange being had. I see coalition being built.

[00:06:02]But it is so hard to grieve and process the unjustifiable loss of a child.

[00:06:07]And it is the criminalization of black people and the harm that that does to children in particular that motivates so much of my work.

[00:06:15]I became activated in earnest in 2012 with the death of Trayvon Martin.

[00:06:20]At that time, I was teaching a class in Hunts Point.

[00:06:24]And uh the theater that my class was held in doesn't get very warm in the colder months. So that day in November, I went and the boys in my class, who were about 10 to 13 years old, were all shivering in their t-shirts. And I asked them, "Where are your jackets and where are your hoodies?"

[00:06:40]And one of the students said to me, "My mom won't let me wear a hoodie anymore because she's afraid that I could get shot."

[00:06:46]And then 2 years later with Michael Brown, those little boys are now becoming teenagers and just watching them question their mortality from the lens of being black and being aware that from a young age they have been viewed as potentially dangerous and criminal and they are not seen as the individuals and the human beings that they are.

[00:07:10]And so I wanted to know, "How can I help?" I've known that um when I was growing up, my dad referred to us as privileged minorities and I wanted to know, "How do I use my privilege to help others?" I think that's where a lot of people start.

[00:07:25]And that's when I learned about the model minority myth.

[00:07:27]And when I first read about the model minority myth, it made sense to me. It clicked for me. I did not have a difficult time accepting it because I understood that it didn't diminish the struggles that my parents experienced throughout their lifetime and their hard work and how they raised me, and my hard work, and my family's accomplishments.

[00:07:46]But, it made me realize how Asian Americans are weaponized in the United States to oppress black people.

[00:07:55]And that made me realize that I am not somebody who is helping people who need my help.

[00:08:03]The work that needs to be done is on myself and in my community. And Asian Americans, we still have a lot of work to do.

[00:08:12]>> Where are the Asian Americans? Why don't I see y'all advocating for us?

[00:08:17]>> There's something cultural about the violent nature of Asians.

[00:08:24]>> Asian American here. Before I begin, I will leave the link for the GoFundMe for Cyrus in my profile. It's been 3 years, but I have seen people donating in the past couple days, so I'm hoping the money is still going to his family.

[00:08:37]Before I get into the Rick Chow case, I need to share one quick statistic. And when we talk about violent and homicide crimes in America, a majority, overwhelming majority, some people say it's like 85% are intraracial. So, when the perpetrator and the victim's races are known, they tend to be the same.

[00:08:54]Violent crimes of incidents by victim and offender race, you'll see that for white people, black people, Hispanic people, the majority are committed by the same race.

[00:09:03]The only category that differs is the Asian and Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander category where perpetrator of violent crimes against Asian people are actually white people. We're going to talk about two cases, Rick Chow and also Grandpa Vicha. The similarities are that they both happened years ago. Grandpa Vicha what happened back in 2021, Rick Chow's case happened in 2023, but just now were the verdicts released this year and were the court proceedings happening. And the difference is that in one, Grandpa Vicha was the victim, the victim was Asian, the perpetrator was black, and in the other, Rick Chow, Rick Chow is the perpetrator and the victim is black. This is not Rich out's first incident where he shot some of his patrons. He shot at a moving car and he also shot someone in the leg over alleged stealing. And in this case, there was no water bottles that were stolen. Sai Prince didn't steal anything. Everyone who looks at this case should say, well, there's no reason why you should be shooting a child in the back when they are running away from you. And that's it. You know, that's my stance. The reason why I'm going to say is that I hope Sai Prince and his family gets justice is because the justice system doesn't always deliver and we're going to go to the next case which the verdict came out earlier this year of Grandpa Vicha. Vicha was pushed by Antoine Watson to the ground. He hit his head and he died. Antoine Watson was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter, guilty of assault, but not guilty of first and second degree murder or elder abuse. His family believes that justice was not served. In both situations involving a black and an Asian person, neither parties were charged with a hate crime.

[00:10:39]You might be wondering, well, what is the point? The point is and I'm just going to read something really quickly.

[00:10:43]How media coverage can distort perceived prevalence of interracial violence.

[00:10:48]High-profile incidences, particularly those framed as racially motivated, can create the impression that interracial attacks are common despite statistical rarity. This divergence between anecdote and aggregated data demonstrates how selective amplification can shape public fear and policy debate, meaning factual conversations require returning to comprehensive victimization and arrest data sets rather than isolated cases. If you want to look up cases where a black person kills an Asian person, you can find many of them. If you want to look up a case of a Asian person killing a black person, you can also find many of them.

[00:11:24]Do they represent what the bigger picture is? No. People then go go to make broad statements of the entire race. You know, we see that happen all the time. We see statements where people say, "Well, black people are inherently violent." And now we see people saying, "Well, Asian people are inherently violent." Even though statistics do not prove either statement, because the biggest perpetrator of violence in America are white men. When you make broad statements to frame an entire race as inherently violent or culturally violent, you're just engaging in white supremacist essentialist takes that say, "Well, you guys are born this way. This is your culture. You're just violent." To end the video on a positive note, I wanted to read from the GoFundMe from 3 years ago. By Taiwanese Chinese American woman, she wrote, "My heart and thoughts are with your family. I want to encourage all Asians to help to support Black Lives Matter and to send messages of support. This is not a difficult decision. I refuse to protect a child murderer just because he is the same race as me. Rick Chow is a criminal that needs to go to jail immediately. He needs to apologize. If Rick Chow felt afraid or uncomfortable, he should have moved his business elsewhere long ago. I would like all Asian businesses that don't respect black lives to move away and work somewhere else. How Asians respond to this reflects on us as a group. I hope this contribution goes directly to Cyrus's family. I'm so so sorry for your loss." And that is the sentiment I carry. Asian and black communities do have historic tension, but we also do have historic alliance.

[00:12:46]>> I don't know if you're following this Rick Chow case, but Alice Chow, the wife, she needs to be locked up, too.

[00:12:53]You can tell from the get-go she was not feeling this kid. I can tell you, personally, as somebody that has come from an Asian household, this was 100% racism. I promise you, they had it out for this kid for the sole reasoning that he looks like [music] this. The fact that Alice Chow didn't have to say much, she literally from the second that she turned her head to say something to Rick and Andy, they were running after this kid [music] already. I think the entire family, Alice Chow, Rick Chow, and Andy Chow should be buried under the prison. Alice Chow needs to go on the sole fact that her assumption led to this child's [music] death. And these two for sure because had they not even left the gas station, this entire incident wouldn't have even happened. And the kicker is he didn't even steal anything. Did he have a pew pew on him? Yes, he [music] did.

[00:13:49]But again, that is such a non-issue because nothing would have even happened if Rick Chow and Andy Chow didn't chase after him and he didn't feel the need to defend himself.

[00:13:59]>> If you've been following the murder trial of Rick Chow who killed 14-year-old Cyrus Carmack Belton in South Carolina, then you know that this case is eerily similar to that of Latasha Harlins in 1992. Latasha was 15 years old in Los Angeles and was accused by a store clerk of stealing orange juice. The store clerk grabbed Latasha and she defended herself. As she was running away, the clerk shot her in the back of the head killing her.

[00:14:24]Investigation and the surveillance camera later concluded that Latasha was not stealing the orange juice and in fact had the money in her hand when she was shot and killed.

[00:14:32]Latasha's murder was just one of the major events that stoked the flames of the infamous 1992 LA riots. Watching the same events unfold over 30 years >> from this video as sad as this story may be because nobody deserve to lose his child. And before I continue, I don't want anybody to say what if he had stolen. Even if he stole, please nobody should tell me even if he stole because he did not steal.

[00:15:01]He did not steal. So let's keep it at he did not steal. Not even if he had stolen. There is nothing like even if he had stolen at this point in time.

[00:15:15]Let's say they knew he did not steal and still went further to chase him, chased him down and pew pew him.

[00:15:29]Now, see, my emotions are high at this one time. I don't know why because Well, in fact, I know why because that is somebody's child.

[00:15:40]That is somebody's brother.

[00:15:45]The fact that people we pepper some I don't understand the guts, the audacity someone you did not create.

[00:15:54]Man, I have never seen crazy thing like this.

[00:15:58]It's crazy. And they are acting confused like they don't know what happened or somebody is making the story up. Who made it up? You guys did this.

[00:16:11]Now, I want you to know that this is not the first This is not the second This is not the third. I remember I have >> [clears throat] >> In how many years that I've been in this space, I remember that I have brought how many videos of cases like this.

[00:16:26]And some people are saying he had people in his in What do you And so what?

[00:16:32]Why is it that it is only when a black person had people with him that the story changes? Because other people have people. So, if he had had If he had bad intentions, would he not have drawn that after being chased for how many miles?

[00:16:49]I don't want to hear anybody saying that nonsense.

[00:16:55]Enough is enough. If you guys do not think that we are human beings, if you guys do not think that we deserve to live because we absolutely deserve to live. I don't see us bugging anybody. I don't see us doing some shitty things to people. What I have never seen is the fact that black people probably when you come to their store, they chase you there. They never do that.

[00:17:27]And probably warn you and tell you not to cut do it again because they know how to go straight to the point. They don't feel when it comes to that.

[00:17:36]But on daily basis, we wake up to stories like this. We lose our kids. You heard the story the other other young lady told about a black one who went who went to the store she has been using for five good years. A whole five years that you've been going to a store a particular store to get your nails done.

[00:17:58]Oh, let me tell you guys, I don't pay anybody again for my nails.

[00:18:04]Yeah, you heard me right. I don't go to anybody's store.

[00:18:08]I don't fix lashes.

[00:18:11]Right? Because I know where it's going to when I do that.

[00:18:15]I bought myself nail polish. I paint my nails myself except when I travel to where I can find people that look like me that I am going to give my money.

[00:18:26]Enough is enough. If I don't fix my nails, I am not going to die. I won't die. Nothing is going to happen.

[00:18:35]I got myself UV dryer or whatever call it. When I paint it, I dry it up myself till I can find someone that I can trust so that I will know that even if I am fighting, I am fighting with my brother.

[00:18:50]When we finish, we squash it out. We if we like, I might go to your store again, but I might not go to your store again, but I will never one thing that I will never think is how to harm you.
