De Quervain's disease is a tendinitis affecting the tendons at the base of the thumb and wrist, causing pain, swelling, and sometimes cyst formation. While splints and anti-inflammatory medications are initial treatment options, the most effective treatments are cortisone/steroid injections and surgery. Steroid injections can cure the condition, but repeated injections are not recommended as they can cause tendon degeneration, potentially requiring surgery.

De Quervain's Disease Treatments Explained | Bruce Wolock, MD # #doctor #handspecialistAdded:
DeQuervain's disease is a It's a tendinitis of the tendons that come to your thumb over this area of the wrist and tends to cause pain, sometimes severe, in this area. It can cause swelling. Occasionally, people even get a cyst in this area. The most effective treatments for this are a cortisone or steroid injection and surgery. Many people like to try the splint or or anti-inflammatory medications first, but many people are frustrated and they find it's very painful and want to do something that's quick and easy and hopefully take care of her pain pretty quickly, then a steroid injection can be very beneficial and occasionally will cure the problem. Occasionally, a second injection can be done, but if it continues to recur, we don't continue to give the cortisone shots.
It's not healthy for you. It leads to tendon degeneration and then that would require surgery.
