A pronoun is a word that substitutes for a noun (name of a person, animal, or thing) to avoid repetition. There are five main types: personal pronouns (I, you, he, she, it, we, they) substitute the subject of a sentence; object pronouns (me, you, him, her, it, us, them) receive the action of a verb; reflexive pronouns (myself, yourself, himself, herself, itself, ourselves, yourselves, themselves) are used when the subject and object are the same person; possessive pronouns (mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs) indicate ownership; and demonstrative pronouns (this, that, these, those) point to specific things based on distance.

What are the pronouns?!Added:
uh once again here this is the first video class that we wanna have uh today i'm gonna start with a very basic topic that is pronounced uh you need to know that we have different types of pronouns the name of them are not pretty important it is not important i'm going to tell you what is the name of each one of them they are the personal pronouns then we got object pronouns reflexive pronouns they are not um pronouns they are adjectives but they are uh let's let's say like compound right then they are um possessive pronouns and this the last one that they have um they are sorry demonstrated pronouns but again i repeat it is not important the name of the type of pronoun is not relevant you're not linguists right you just want to use the language to understand and use them correctly so now i'm going to start by giving a small definition of what um pronoun is and i will say in my own words that um a pronoun is a piece of word just a word no palabra the substitute the name of things this could be a person okay animals and the things okay marker house recorder lamp light word that is a noun okay normally the las cosas are nouns so the pronoun is the word that will substitute a noun okay in other words a pronoun it's a word that substitutes a name or names okay so let's start with the first maybe you already know since sec secondary school maybe is the first time when you have the first content with english right now and some students are learning in kindergarten or maybe primary school but most of us we learn or we have the first english contact in secondary school so maybe you recognize this these words right and teach you tell you like memorize them memorize and make i love a lot of lists long lists of vocabulary repeating and repeating and repeating but sometimes teachers never tell you why okay or sometimes students don't really understand they get confused so let's go here right go to this part um i'm gonna start with the first line you will see sometimes some teachers write you right here okay they repeat it again i don't do it because i consider that it is the same deal is for singular like you are my friend or you are my student only one but also you it's pluto like you are my students you are my friends so this could be like singular and plural so i don't have to repeat it again here so the question is what is the function of these pronouns what is the function and i'm going to tell you very fast the function of these pronouns is to substitute the name of the subject okay if my subject is like maria works in the factory maria [Music] i can substitute the word maria with this pronoun she okay she is a pronoun that will substitute the name for a girl a woman in this case if i say my father my father works in that company my father is a man so i can substitute the word he for the name for example my father's name is carlos i can say he is my dad he is my father or instead of saying my father works in the company i say he works in the company so when i use he i am substituting the name of the subject in the sentence okay so that's it if i talk about i know peter john marta giulio and me okay instead of saying or repeating all the time the names like peter martin jones uh what they say carlos and me for example went to a party in the party peter martin john cows and me start to dance and then i repeat peter john marta carlos and me uh went for some drinks i don't have to repeat all the time the names instead of that investor solution peter john marta carlos and me went to the party and then we went to get some drinks that's it so this is the function of this now let's go for the second function the second uh line let's call them they are the object pronouns me you him her eat us and them and this is pretty simple to understand um when we have an action we have a reaction all verbs are actions most of them the majority of us from actions right and when you have an action somebody receives that action and that is you know an affection so for example if i say i love her i love her this is because i do the action right and she receives the action but i don't say i love she that is not correct you don't say i love she this is not correct why because she i would use this when they do the action i will use this when they receive the action of the verb okay for example in other words i help gioval i right that is the difference these ones these pronouns do the action and these ones here receive the action so when i say for example she loves me she loves me i mean that she is the one who does the action and i receive the action i receive the love that is the idea right another example like they this is the pluto yes you know they helped us they did the action and we receive it but we don't say they help we this is incorrect you say they helped us they did the action we received the action that's the difference right then let's go for the third okay the third line myself yourself himself herself self or sell themselves and this is a little tricky right i'm gonna explain it's very simple okay um this reflexive pronouns the name is reflexive pronouns are very simple to understand sometimes maybe incorrectly people say i love me and that is not correct maybe it makes sense tina tito i love me but it is not correct why but example if you say she loves her is and this is the function this is where the reflexive pronouns uh work or appear we are going to re to use the reflexive pronouns only when they uh receive the action um done by the same person that does the action example if i have a let's say a piece of bread and then i got a knife i cut and then i cut my finger okay you don't say i cut me that's not correct that is not correct you say i cut myself you don't say i cut me this is incorrect okay if i say i don't know another example he killed he killed him if i say he killed him what i say or what i am saying is that one man killed another man but if i say that this guy blow his brains right you know say he killed him you will say he killed himself he did the action any selection okay if i was like i was walking and then you hit yourself you hit yourself you say oh i hit me that's not correct i hit me it's not correct you say i hit myself that's it then we got i'm gonna explain all these three in one sentence okay it says she taught us to love ourselves this is a personal pronoun this is an object pronoun and this is a reflexive pronoun so let's try to break the co or crack the cold dc she thought is the past of teach teach enzenyard is the past she told us because it's in the past to love amar and then we got ourselves a nosotros mismos and this is the idea she taught us to love ourselves they do the action they receive the action and theirs are the ones who receive the action by the same person who does the action okay and that's pretty much odd uh let's say now my am i you're yours he's in his they are similar they are possessive okay the difference is that this is an adjective they always need a noun in front they always need a word in front my dog your dog his dog her dog he i don't know it's will wheels on our dog their dog okay and it's kind of different when you use this they also um mean or referred to what can i say to possession right but they are a little bit uh different um why because you don't say that you don't say the thing for example my house in this case you you don't say this is my that's not great you have to say this is my house but in other words when you use mine you can also only say this is mine and you don't have to say the house is mine not necessarily and but well in other words they are very similar you can say this is my classroom or you can say this classroom is mine um this is our i don't know what you can say this is our car or you can say this car is ours or i don't know your worth the world is yours it's very similar right and just to finish just to finish we got demonstrated pronouns this and that for singular those and this for pluto i'm going to explain just with this um marker this marker because it's singular okay and this is very simple to understand this will be and this works in spanish for esc okay uh remember we don't have like um well we have singular and pluto but this is more about um if it is reachable csr can stop it if it is close it starts celca what i mean is this if it is close you say this is my marker i have it if maybe the example is that the market is far away i cannot take it that is my marker and that's the only thing this is for something that is close reachable and that is for something that is far away something that is not in your rich okay and you still clarify this the plural we got those and this and again similar this this is for tuna for things that you have very close okay you can say oh this these are my friends uh these are consequences and those is for something that is outside something that is far away and you say oh those people hit me okay or those girls laughed at me okay or those are my books give them to me okay that's pretty much it um i hope uh you understand this um it's a brave class but obviously we have more material right there in the in the virtual um course and remember there is a blog where you can just participate there if you have some questions let's clarify them in the blog and i hope you understand okay try to do the quest and let's see if you understand the huge the use sorry of all of these pronouns okay so remember my name is fernando fortes and see you around bye you
