Geopolitical tensions, such as those between Iran and the US over nuclear enrichment rights and control of the Strait of Hormuz, create market uncertainty that affects different commodities differently—gold and silver show uncertainty while copper performs well and bonds rally indicating falling interest rates.

Morning Flash: Iran Firm on Uranium & Hormuz Toll Control; Ira Epstein's Video for 5-22-2026Added:
[music] [music] >> Good morning. I wrap things with your Memorial Day weekend. Yes, it is Friday, 22nd of May, 2026 and we're about 8:20 a.m. Central Time. And as you know, on Monday, it's Memorial Day. So, you're going to have that abbreviated type trading, very thin volumes, no full sessions. Uh Sunday night will also be abbreviated. So, be careful here. Today is your last full trading day and the market like likes what it's seeing.
I'm not seeing any positive words out of Iran. Uh as it stands, the Iranians want to keep all the enriched uranium.
They want to retain the right to enrich.
And now they want the toll booth in the Strait of Hormuz with their new partner Oman, who they will control all the traffic. Okay.
So, that is where you're at and we will see where this all goes. President Trump said to very simply, "No."
And that doesn't mean we're attacking or not attacking. So, you're up there. Uh the gold market down on the news, well, this doesn't sound like peace. Silver waffling, doesn't know what to make out of it. But copper doing very, very good, up 6 cents on the day. You tried to be higher, $4 higher in fact in the Brent today. You've just sold off for. If I have news to tell you as to why that is, I would, but I'm not finding that. Bonds and notes, they are acting as though something good is happening.
They are giving you a rally. So, rally means falling interest rates. That's not a bad thing. In the grain markets, markets are backing off right across the whole thing. Even cotton market stabilizing after a pretty big break.
You know, cotton had a vertical price rise and then a vertical price break.
Interesting what it's done. And I think we're just in a waffle in the foreign currencies. They're pretty smart markets. They don't know if they should be going up or down. It's a very difficult situation for them. What's not difficult for you before we get to the day's news is my Memorial Day 40% off sale. It ends Tuesday.
So, you have now to take advantage. You will forget about it over the weekend. I know that how people work. But it's 40% off any one year subscription, new subscription, 40% off any of my courses.
And remember, in the courses you get the charting software. You get access to the uh research that I have for a limited period of time.
You get 40 some odd videos where you're able to learn everything I'm doing in the full charting course and then we take you into the Bollinger Band course if you want that, then the outside day course. By the time it's all done, you're in pretty good shape in my opinion.
It's not a race. You decide when you want to take the courses. Once you buy them, you've locked in, you let us know and then we turn them on and it's the the time clock starts on everything that you've got there. So, how do you get this? Go to irepstein.com.
You can move your cursor to the top right up here.
It should take you to our website, but you can always just go there. If you hit the gears on YouTube, uh they should be able to take you right to the website as well. So, we'll see where that all goes.
Now, in the news of the day. So, what we're going to get today is the Conference Board US April leading economic indicator data at 9:00, the University of Michigan, and this is the prelim May consumer sentiment indices.
We're going to get the cattle on feed report at 2:00. Again, the gaps that are here between Iran and the US are major.
They I mean, that this is what the war is all about. Uh they want to keep all the enriched uranium, and while they say that they will uh talk to the US about maybe uh curtailing future uranium enrichment for some period of time, they're not willing to give it up. And since the new thing on the block is that they have the Strait of Hormuz, they're not giving that up. They're going to charge tolls. Everything that goes through there has to go through their maritime.
We'll see how that sits with everybody.
And then, the US is handing out $2 billion in order to for companies. A lot of these are startup companies.
To do what? Quantum computing to catch up and get the AI to the next level. The big boy IBM's getting 1 billion of that money. Whether the US gets stock in that and IBM, I don't know. I haven't read uh just how that's going to work, but uh you can see what's going on. I hope this works out as good as Intel worked out for us. Uh that made billions upon billions for the US uh citizen. So, that's a pretty good deal.
All righty, my friends. So, I'm saying goodbye to you with this. Uh remember, I will not tonight put out an update most likely. I'll do it sometime over the holiday period. Remember the abbreviated trading hours. Keep in the back of your mind thinner trading. Remember the sale.
40% off any of the products. Please take advantage. And I have people doing it already. I'm I Rubs D. You have yourself a great Memorial Day, and I'll catch up with you either during it or right after it. You take care.
