Dave’s transparent account serves as a vital cautionary tale about the physiological limits of aging bodies. It successfully transforms a personal health scare into an educational lesson on the often-overlooked risks of overexertion.

Workout Resulted in a Emergency Room Visit.Added:
So, have you ever had something happen that made you realize maybe I'm not superhuman and maybe I need to be a little bit more careful and take note of things?
Well, I had that happen the other day following a workout which resulted in a trip to the ER.
So, I'm going to tell you about that and maybe I'll help somebody out with with the story.
But, it started out and this was just a few days ago.
Started out where I was sitting here working on a video. It was a video where I was doing a comparison of protein powders.
Sat here a few hours, had the rough stuff all put together.
Took a break, went and ate lunch.
And then decided I'd go downstairs. It was on a Monday when I did this and Monday's my chest day. So, I went down and spent it was about 30 minutes working out and uh did the usual little the balls and stuff that I showed you, did different different exercises.
Uh Didn't use the flat bench, but different chest exercises. And it ended on a a good hard strenuous note of uh using dumbbells.
So, but nothing nothing weird happened at that point. And came back up to the office here in in where my computers are.
Sat down and I was going to do some more final editing on the video. The preceding events of the day just kind of got a little grayer.
So, went up [clears throat] and talked to the wife and told her what was going on and by this time it was about it was about 4:00 in the afternoon.
So, we went up to the local ER and uh and still I'm trying to you know reconstruct the events of the day.
And and things were just I couldn't remember.
Other than that, I was perfectly fine.
You know, no no nothing else.
I felt perfectly fine.
But, I just I couldn't remember Jack.
Which and I don't know if you know what that means, but I couldn't remember anything.
Or or I couldn't remember details of earlier in the day.
So, I went in there and uh it was the afternoon and it's a small town. So, I got into the ER pretty quick.
And they did a a cat you know, urinalysis, cat scan, another cat scan with with contrast.
And took a history and blah blah blah, did all that kind of stuff and the and the labs came back and I was uh surprisingly enough showed a little dehydrated and my electrolytes were off.
The cat scan showed you know that all the the cuckoos are working and it's all everything was good uh uh within my brain circulation, all of that was good.
And uh and what they what they came back with was uh transient global amnesia.
Which uh >> [laughter] >> was kind of weird, kind of surprising for me.
And uh it's usually a and I've had a former a co-worker that that same thing happened to her husband after a really hard workout.
And that's kind of what happened with me. My last set on on with the dumbbells was extremely a really hard push.
And you know, I and I think that in conjunction with my electrolytes being off is probably what precipitated this this event to happen.
So, it's kind of odd. It's kind of when you when you get that slap in the face of I'm a human being and I need to I need to be careful.
Not only that, I'm a old human being and I need to be kind of careful.
But, I did go in yesterday and followed up with my provider and they did some other labs and and stuff. So, I am being smart in that way and and trying to make sure that there's no no other issues going on, but this type of thing you know, according to according to the the forms that I got, it's uh there's no treatment for transient global amnesia.
TGA usually does not cause permanent memory loss.
And your risk of having another TGA is low.
So, that that in itself is reassuring.
Uh like I say, I'm a still a little bit mystified by why my why I was a little dehydrated because >> [laughter] >> me and this jug don't get too far separated.
But, uh you know, that's that's a question.
There all the all of the answers are not there yet exactly why that happened since sometimes you know, you don't know why why stuff happens. You can kind of rule out major problems, but the exact uh the methodology or the or the reason behind the the issue is may not be known.
But, I just wanted to pass that along that you know, it's the little things like a little dehydration and not taking in enough electrolytes can make a big difference.
So, you want to be safe. You know, you want to be careful with with what you consume. And also be careful with what you do. Since and and the reason I'm doing this is because most of the people that subscribe here are uh are older in nature. You might have a few of these a few of these gray or white hairs.
And I know just reading from the comments, there's a lot of people that like me that tend to push pretty hard.
And uh we are still human as much as we we like to think back about the way we used to be 20, 30 40 years ago.
We're not that way now and we need to sometimes you get a slap in the face to you know, to remember that hey, I am I am a high mileage model and you need to be careful slamming the doors.
>> [laughter] >> But, anyway, just a quick note of uh to be careful. Be wise in what you do.
You got to stay in the fight, but but you got to you got to be wise in your approach and and be smart. You know, educate yourself. There's so much and don't don't rely on what Dave says or what YouTube says.
The the internet is a wealth of information and you know, there's no reason to not not know about stuff because you have never had access to more information.
If you got a smartphone or a computer, that stuff is there and it's very important to educate yourself about what you're doing, what you're consuming and all of that kind of stuff.
And I realize that you know, there are people that watch this that are older than me and the and the internet and some of the tech the technologies are may not be something that that's you're that familiar with, but definitely if you got questions, then you know, get get somebody to help you out that that is more familiar and can navigate in that lane pretty comfortably.
But, anyway, I I hope this has been helpful and insightful and just remember you're human.
You might be a high mileage model. So, so be be careful and be safe.
Stay in the fight, but you know, be careful while you're doing it.
Thanks very much for watching. Godspeed.
Dave out.
