In domestic violence cases, law enforcement officers must investigate both parties' accounts, document injuries, and determine the primary aggressor based on evidence; when a suspect is arrested, they are placed under oath and informed of their legal rights, and the case proceeds through the court system where a judge determines bond conditions and potential charges.

>> She's inside?
>> Yeah.
>> I'll just run him and then we'll go and make contact.
>> Who else is in the home?
>> Just my stepson, who's 28.
>> So, you guys were just arguing verbally and she came at you with scissors? Did you >> I Yeah, I did. I put my hand up and pushed her back. If I got hit here.
>> You can talk to her?
>> No, not yet.
>> Just hang out here, okay?
>> Okay.
>> Um all right. Well, I'll just get a statement from you. Tell me everything you've already told him. Have you ever participated in a statement before?
>> Excuse me?
>> Have you participated in a statement before?
>> Uh he >> No.
>> Not here, no.
>> Okay, it's fine.
Um I'm Deputy Rice with Charlotte County Sheriff's Office. What's your full name, sir? What's your birthday? And your phone number out loud? And your residential address?

>> Yeah.
>> All right, so tell me in detail what happened leading up to >> The yelling and cursing, name-calling.
She's constantly yelling at me. I'm telling her to leave.
>> What was the fight over?
>> Just stupidity.
>> Okay.
>> Stupidity.
>> Okay.
>> And um she's talking on the phone to her friend, badmouthing me all time. And I'm like, "Cut it out. I hear you."
And she's yelling, of course, I mean, screaming at me. The neighbors hear all of it.
>> Yeah.
>> I'm telling her, "Keep your [ __ ] mouth shut. Leave me alone."
You know, then I get mad and yell and curse. I'm not getting up.
No.
>> Sorry, I didn't mean to interrupt.
>> And [ __ ] has the scissors.
>> And then she just stabbed you in the mustache and mouth?
>> Where is it?
>> How many times did she poke you with it?
I see it. I just need you to tell me how it happened.
>> Yeah, you know, yelling and cursing. She was rabid. Yes, we're in each other's faces yelling.
>> Were you physical at any point before that? Pushing, shoving?
>> No, not until I until I got stabbed.
>> Okay. Where did she get the scissors from?
>> It's up on my bureau. These small scissors, mustache scissors, like >> Oh, okay. So, where did the incident occur? In the bathroom, living room?
>> No, right in the hallway right before.
>> Okay. So, it occurred in the hallway, she grabbed your scissors, and just poked you one time with them, or was it multiple times?

>> So, can I see your chest? She stabbed you once in the chest, too?
>> Yeah.
>> Okay.
But just a mark on your mustache. Okay.
Have you guys ever gone physical before, or has she ever done something like this before?
>> No.
No.
>> Did your son see this?
>> No, he stayed in his room.
>> Is it a common thing for you guys? Do you usually always bicker? Is this the first time it's escalated to this point?
>> No, it's yelling and cursing. I try to calm it down. She don't want to calm it down.
>> Is it influenced by alcohol? You guys been drinking, or You're allowed to drink in your own home, so that's okay.
I just need to know.
>> a couple of shots.
>> Both of you?
>> Oh, I had the Evan Williams eggnog. I had one shot.
>> Okay.
>> She was having a few.
>> Okay.
All right. Is that all you want to add to the statement?
>> I don't like it to get like this.
>> I'll buy me.
>> But she doesn't want to let it go.
And then, you know, she's always trying to make me look bad, talking with friends on the phone. I treat you good.
>> Yeah.
>> And she really has a mouth. A mouth.
>> How long have you guys been married?
>> Since 05, 2005.

Okay. She says I don't >> But you've been physical before.
>> Not really. Pushing each other's faces.
>> Okay. All right.
Anything else you want to add? Anything we discussed off tape we haven't discussed on tape?
>> Huh?
>> Anything we discussed off tape we haven't discussed on tape? Okay, this concludes the statement.
All right, so we're going to let him go talk to her, get her story. I'll just need to talk to your son. If he didn't see anything, that's all I need to say, he didn't see anything.
>> It's over.
It's over.
>> I think at this point you need to do what you need to do. You know, you got to protect yourself. I'm actually I'm going to need to get pictures of your face. What's on your arm there? Is that a scar? Oh, so she got you in the arm, too?
>> I didn't know that.
>> Twice? So there's two little indents?
>> I don't even know I have them both. I just got out of the house and cold.
>> I don't see any marks on your chest, not to say that she didn't get you, but I just don't see any fresh blood, so okay.
>> Lisa told deputies she was only cooking dinner and denied attacking anyone, and Lisa broke down when officers made their decision.

>> Can you tell me?
>> No, you tell me where this is coming What is she talking about? You got to take pictures of myself. Nobody's taking a picture of me. I'm in my pajamas.
That's horrible.
>> Well, Lisa, you got to understand that we're here for an investigation. Okay?
>> An investigation for what? I'm in my house cooking dinner. He called you and lying to you.
>> I understand that. That's what we have to figure out. Okay? You I don't know if you're lying to me. I don't know if he's lying to me.

>> Well, I mean, that may be the best thing for you.
>> In the patrol car, Lisa kept insisting deputies were missing her side. Officers explained their decision and the case continued from there.
>> Sorry.
>> I'll just get the door open here. I'll just get the door open here. See you in there, okay?
>> You don't like this. I didn't do anything.
He's comes after me all of the time. My son told you to.
>> What was your first name, ma'am? I'm sorry.
>> Lisa.
>> All right. So, I wasn't here during when they were investigating, okay?
But, obviously, during their investigation, they determined that you were the primary aggressor in the battery.
>> He I've got bruises all over me. He attacked me. Look at the size of me.
>> Okay. Well, I'm not I'm not here to hear that to tell what [clears throat] happened, but >> I may throw up.

>> Okay. You can still go to work tomorrow.
>> How can I? I'm in jail.
>> Well, you have a bond. Could you get a bond today?
>> They can't They can't get a bond. Who's going to get a bond?
>> Well, you're you're fine. You have to see a judge in the morning.
Um if you don't if you don't get a bond tonight or if you can't get out tonight, you have to see the judge in the morning, either way.
And then, you know, based on whatever happens, the judge could just release you on your own recognizance, which means no bond, or he'll set up whatever bond he feels appropriate in the case.
>> I didn't do anything.
I'm telling you.
>> Well, let me ask you something, Lisa.
Let me ask you something.
>> I swear to God, on my dead pirate's grave.
>> How often does this happen between you two?
>> He bites. He short-circuited. He used to be a corrections officer.
>> Okay.

>> But apparently you're not. Apparently you're the >> Apparently I am cuz I have pictures right there and I showed her.
>> Okay, well, I wasn't here during what the story what happened was.
So, you know, I don't know, but they determined you were the primary aggressor tonight.
>> I'm not the aggressor.
>> Okay. Like I said, I wasn't here during the initial what happened.
So, I I don't I don't can't tell you, but if he was found to be the primary aggressor, he would have gone to jail. I mean, that would you know, we have to take somebody in a domestic violence situation.
>> My son, my Robert.
Oh my god. ROBERT, I LOVE YOU.
>> How old is your son?
>> 29.
