i'm changing the way i read

[00:00:00]I'm making some changes to the way I read, and I want to tell you about it.

[00:00:02]Until now, I've picked up books with the logic of a hoarder collecting street junk in a three-wheeled shopping cart.

[00:00:06]But, I had an epiphany recently and realized that my haphazard reading habits are great for breadth, but not for depth. That's why I've decided to inject a little structure into my reading practice and spend at least half of each month grouping books by the same author. In May, I kicked off with two Tony Morrison novels after reading The Bluest Eye earlier this year. And I'm now spending a few days deep in the deep personalized bureaucratic hell maze of Franz Kafka with The Metamorphosis and The Trial after reading The Castle last year. Next up is Angels and Tree of Smoke to round out the Denis Johnson repertoire. Before I mosey back to one of the best writers I've discovered this year and spend some time with Twilight in the Long Home, which I just ordered by William Gay. I've also got a hefty stack of Bolaño's shorter work to get to and a trilogy of García Márquez books, two of which are long overdue rereads.

[00:00:43]I'll still break this up with one-offs so I can keep spreading my voracious tendrils into new literary crevices.
