[00:00:01][applause] >> Kevin Warsh was sworn in as chair of the Federal Reserve on Friday as Americans deal with surging gas prices and eroding consumer sentiment.

[00:00:11]It's the honor of a lifetime to be called back into public service. Warsh has laid out ambitious reform goals for a central bank he's criticized ever since leaving his job there as a governor in 2011. I will lead a reform-oriented Federal Reserve.

[00:00:27]Learning from past successes and mistakes both.

[00:00:31]Escaping static frameworks and models.

[00:00:34]And upholding clear standards of integrity and performance.

[00:00:39]The 56-year-old won President Donald Trump's backing for the job after a year-long public audition among top candidates. No one in America is better prepared to lead the Federal Reserve than Kevin Warsh. Trump, who often berated former chair Jerome Powell, said Warsh would have the full support of his administration. I want Kevin to be totally independent. I want him to be independent and just do a great job.

[00:01:05]Don't look at me. Don't look at anybody.

[00:01:07]Just do your own thing and do a great job. Though he cautioned him to recognize that growth does not mean inflation. We want to stop inflation, but we don't want to stop greatness.

[00:01:18]And so that's really a very good thing, a very positive thing, and that's what he's looking to do.
