The Beatles Help! Review - Ranking Every Beatles Album

[00:00:02]Today, I'm ranking and reviewing The Beatles Help.

[00:00:06]And I've got three versions here.

[00:00:10]I've got the 2009 from the box set, of course.

[00:00:20]Nice booklet.

[00:00:23]And there's even a little film on each of these CDs, little documentary about the making of each album.

[00:00:31]And then I've got the the mono version from the Beatles mono box set.

[00:00:45]But wait, there's more.

[00:00:47]I also have the US version. And this is the one I I grew up with back in 1965.

[00:00:56]I never knew me and my family or you know brothers never I don't think we knew about the UK versions. At least I didn't until probably the late '70s.

[00:01:10]So, the US Canadian version had some instrumentals. So, it was seven songs from The Beatles from the movie.

[00:01:19]And then the rest of it was the soundtrack music from the movie.

[00:01:23]And I do love how Help starts the opening song with that little bit of James Bond-ish music. I think it really to when the song kicks in.

[00:01:35]But of course, this UK version is the best because it's all Beatles. Even though growing up, songs like It's Only Love was on Rubber Soul. And I've Just Seen a Face was the opening song on Rubber Soul here in Canada and the US. So, it certainly got confusing when we learned about at least when I learned about the UK albums.

[00:02:03]So, 14 fantastic songs. I've ranked them from my favorite to least favorite.

[00:02:13]But, even my least favorite, I really like. And uh I used to find Dizzy Miss Lizzy, you know, that guitar riff kind of annoying.

[00:02:23]But, the I listened to the mono version and it wasn't as bad. So, I I enjoyed Dizzy Miss Lizzy much more.

[00:02:33]Uh Act Naturally, I think is a great cover song.

[00:02:38]Originally by Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, which was uh I I love It brings back memories of this album with my dad because playing the Beatles album Help! and Act Naturally came on and he said, "That That's a Buck Owens song." And he I think he was kind of impressed that the Beatles were covering Buck Owens.

[00:03:00]He never He was never negative about the Beatles. He might not have liked their music, but my mom and dad were always positive people. And that's why I'm always so positive.

[00:03:13]Usually.

[00:03:17]Okay. My favorite song is, of course, Ticket to Ride and Help!

[00:03:24]I think the songs The Night Before, Another Girl, It's Only Yeah, It's Only Love. That kind of I don't like it when an artist like John Lennon kind of bashes what he's done in the past. He wasn't really a fan of It's Only Love and even Paul called it filler, I read recently. And maybe it is filler, but I still love the song. I love John's vocals on it.

[00:03:51]And it really fit nicely on Rubber Soul, I'll just say.

[00:03:57]I think it's uh yeah.

[00:04:00]Side two of Rubber Soul, the American Canadian version started with It's Only Love followed by Girl, and I just thought that really worked.

[00:04:11]Uh I love I've Just Seen a Face ever all the time.

[00:04:17]Even though it was so different for for the Beatles back then. Yesterday is of course a classic.

[00:04:25]Yeah, this is just a fab album. And in my rankings, I'm going to give it an A plus, even though some songs are better than others. The the the strongest songs are like A plus plus plus plus plus, and that's why I'm giving this an A plus. And it goes in the first place.
