[00:00:05]Humans like to think we are brave explorers pushing into the unknown, but sometimes the unknown pushes back. This is the story of a ship that went looking for the edge of the universe and came back with something that should have stayed there. By the year 2040, humans had already built colonies on the moon and started mining operations on Mars.

[00:00:26]It felt like nothing could stop us. So, scientists built something bigger than anything before it, a ship called the Event Horizon. Its job was to explore deep space farther than any human had ever gone. But, on its very first flight, the ship vanished. No warning, no distress call, nothing. One moment it was there, and the next, it was simply gone, [music] as if space itself had swallowed it whole. Seven years passed.

[00:00:52]Nobody expected to hear from the Event Horizon again. Then, in 2047, a search and rescue ship called the Lewis and Clark was mission. The ship moved so fast that the force on the crew's bodies would have been deadly if they were awake. So, everyone traveled inside pods filled with liquid, kept [music] in deep sleep until they reached their target.

[00:01:16]56 days later, the ship arrived near Neptune and the crew woke up. Leading them was Captain Miller, a steady and experienced commander. With him were Dr. William Weir, the ship's designer, second in command Lieutenant Stark, medical officer DJ, medical technician Peters, pilot Smith, rescue specialist Cooper, [music] and engineer Justin.

[00:01:38]None of them knew the real reason they had been sent this far from home. That was about to change. Dr. [music] Weir gathered the crew and told them the truth. Weeks earlier, a broken radio signal had been picked up coming from Neptune's [music] orbit. It was coming from the Event Horizon. The ship everyone believed was destroyed was still out there. We're explained that the official story the public had been told that the Event Horizon's engine failed and killed its crew [music] was a cover. In truth, the ship carried a secret technology built to travel faster than light. Some of the crew laughed, pointing out that nothing can outrun light. We're smiled and said they hadn't broken that rule. They had simply found a way around it. He picked up a sheet of paper to explain. If the paper represented all of space, one point marked where they were, another marked where they wanted to go. The shortest route wasn't a straight line across the page. He folded the paper so [music] the two points touched. The shortest distance, he said, was no distance at all. The Event Horizon carried a machine that could fold space the same way, tearing open a doorway that let the ship cross unimaginable distances in a single instant. Justin asked how We're knew so much about a classified ship. We're answered simply that he had built it.

[00:02:53]When asked what had actually happened to it, We're admitted he didn't know. That was the mission, to find out. He played them the signal his team had recovered.

[00:03:02]Underneath the static were human screams and buried beneath that, a voice repeating words in Latin. DJ recognized the phrase as "Save me." An alarm cut the moment short. It was time to move.

[00:03:15]The Lewis and Clark pushed forward and soon the Event Horizon came into view, sitting silent and [music] still against a backdrop of storm clouds like something ancient waiting to be disturbed. Stark tried hailing the ship and got no answer. She ran a scan for life signs, but the results made no sense. Instead of showing individual crew members, the entire ship registered as one single living reading, as though the whole vessel itself were somehow alive. With no other option, Captain Miller led Peters and Justin across a connecting bridge into the abandoned ship. Inside, it was freezing and dead quiet, everything floating in zero gravity except for their magnetized boots holding them to the floor. The ship was split into two main areas, a command deck at the front [music] and the engine core at the back, joined by a long corridor rigged with emergency explosives in case the ship ever needed to break apart. Justin headed toward the engine [music] core while Miller and Peters searched the front of the ship.

[00:04:16]Peters found dried blood smeared across a control panel. Moments later, a flash of light revealed something horrifying.

She recovered the ship's video logs, then turned to find a mutilated body drifting behind her, eyes missing, skin torn open. Her scream echoed through her helmet before she realized it wasn't moving, just a corpse floating free [music] in zero gravity.

[00:04:45]Back at the engine core, Justin found the source of the ship's power, a massive gold device with [music] three rings spinning slowly around a center point. Watching through the camera feed, Weir stared at it with something close to pride, [music] calling it the gravity drive, the heart of the whole ship. Then, without warning, Justin's camera and audio feed cut out. Alone, Justin [music] watched the rings align and the core between them turn into something like pure black liquid. Curious, he reached [music] out and touched it. It felt real, almost alive. He pushed his hand deeper and something on the other side him and pulled. [music] His safety line, tethered back to the Lewis and Clark, went taut as he was dragged toward the darkness. Cooper rushed to help, but the line suddenly went slack and the surge of energy from the drive tore through both ships at once, setting off fires and blowing a hole in the hull of the Lewis and Clark. With their own ship losing air fast, the rest of the crew had no choice but to suit up and retreat [music] into the event horizon. Cooper found Justin's line had released on its own, and Justin drifted out unconscious, but alive. Around the same time, Peters managed to restore power throughout the ship. Gravity returned, and everything that had been floating [music] crashed down at once, including the frozen body from earlier, which shattered on impact.

[00:06:06]The air, however, was turning deadly.

[00:06:08]Stark reported that the ship's filtration system was failing, and carbon dioxide levels were climbing.

[00:06:21]Worse, the same power surge had wiped out their communications, cutting off any hope of calling for backup. While DJ and Peters treated the unconscious Justin, Captain Miller pressed Cooper for details on what he'd seen. [music] Cooper described the core turning to liquid, and then solidifying again the moment Justin came free. [music] Weir dismissed it as impossible, insisting the drive couldn't activate without a manual command. He led Miller and Stark to the core to prove it was stable, then explained calmly that once triggered, [music] the device created something close to an artificial black hole, a gateway capable of sending the ship anywhere [music] in the universe. Stark pointed out that a black hole was one of the most destructive forces [music] that existed, and Weir had built one on purpose. He agreed without hesitation.

[00:07:09]Miller asked whether Justin, pulled briefly into that darkness, might have gone to the same place the event horizon itself had vanished into 7 years earlier. Weir said that in theory, yes, but reminded them the gateway needed to be triggered deliberately. [music] As long as it stayed under control, nothing could pass through on its own. Still uneasy, Miller ordered everyone to stay clear of the core. While watching over Justin, Peters heard scratching coming from a covered stretcher nearby.

[00:07:38]Terrified, she grabbed a knife and pulled the cover back, [music] ready to defend herself. Instead, she found her young son badly wounded, even though he had died years earlier. DJ walked in behind her and touched her shoulder, and the moment she looked away and back, the boy was gone. Shaken, [music] Peters could no longer tell what was real.

[00:07:59]Later, Peters played back what she'd recovered from the ship's video logs. At first, [music] the recording showed the old crew excited to activate the drive for the first time, aiming for a star system over four light years away. Then the footage broke apart [music] into screaming and static, and something inside the ship began draining power rapidly. Weer guessed [music] a short circuit in the drive and rushed with Miller to fix it. While Weer worked, Miller stood near the core and felt something move behind him. Fire burst from the liquid beneath the drive, and a horribly burned man rose up out of it.

[00:08:33]Miller froze, recognizing something from his own past. Later, in front of the crew, he described what he'd seen, but no one believed him. Weer suggested the rising carbon dioxide levels were causing hallucinations. [music] Peters quietly admitted she had seen her dead son, too, but was brushed off as well.

[00:08:51]Still, Miller sensed something wasn't right and ordered everyone back to work so they could get off the ship as fast as possible. Stark approached him privately. Her scans kept returning the same strange result. Life signs [music] spread across the entire ship. She had a theory. She believed the visions they were experiencing were the ship itself was somehow affecting their minds, and that whatever the event horizon had brought back from wherever it went was growing stronger by the minute. When Miller asked outright if she meant the ship was alive, she simply said it was the only explanation she had. Miller told her to save the theories and just help them survive the next several hours. While tending to Justin, Peters looked away for only a moment, and he vanished [music] from from stretcher.

[00:09:35]Searching for him, she heard violent pounding coming from the ship's quarantine room, a space sealed off for containing unknown biological material.

[00:09:44]Whatever was inside was large and furious, slamming against the door hard enough to send [music] sparks flying through the walls. Terrified, she fled to the control room where D.J., Stark, and Weir were already gathered. Weir sat completely still, almost catatonic, while the others reacted with fear as violent knocking began on the control room door itself. An emergency alert interrupted the chaos. Someone was trying to exit through the airlock. It was Justin, about to open the outer door manually, which would have killed him instantly in [music] open space. Peters begged him to stop. Justin asked if she had heard the sound, too. When she admitted she had, he [music] told her that when he touched the darkness inside the drive, something had followed him back, a presence he called the darkness inside him. He said if she had seen what he had seen, she would understand wanted to end it. He triggered the door. The pressure difference nearly tore him apart before Miller, who happened to be just outside, managed to catch him and drag him [music] back to safety. Justin survived, barely, but his sanity was clearly shattered. Miller demanded answers from Weir, but the doctor had none and walked away instead. From that point, Miller himself [music] began hearing voices and seeing visions tied to his own past, specifically an old crewmate named Corrick, who Miller had been forced to leave behind during a fire years earlier. The ship seemed to know [music] exactly which memory would hurt him most. Meanwhile, D.J. corrected an earlier mistake. The Latin phrase from the signal hadn't meant "Save me."

[00:11:17]It actually meant "Save yourself from hell." Miller was stunned. D.J. reasoned that if the drive really could send a ship anywhere in existence, then maybe it had reached somewhere beyond the edges of known space, somewhere that fit that description all too well. With their remaining air running out, Peters finally managed to clean up the recovered footage. What played back was worse than anyone imagined. The original crew had descended into violence, attacking one another, some appearing to vomit blood. The ship's own captain gouging out his eyes on camera. Miller had seen enough. He ordered everyone back to their ship immediately. Weir objected, insisting [music] they couldn't abandon the mission or his creation. Furious, Miller reminded him the crew they were sent to rescue was already dead, killed by this ship, and that staying any longer would get the rest of them killed too. He gave out final orders. Stark to finish downloading the logs, DJ to move Justin to the Lewis and Clark, Peters and Smith to retrieve their equipment. Weir intercepted Miller in the corridor, calmly stating the ship wouldn't let them leave. Miller warned him to get moving or be left behind. [music] Weir only answered that he already was home and walked off. While gathering near the core, Peters heard her son's voice again and saw him standing nearby. Overcome, she followed him upward through the ship, chasing a memory that wasn't really there, until she lost her footing >> [music] >> and fell to her death near the drive.

[00:12:45]Weir found her body shortly after.

[00:12:48]Something inside him broke completely.

[00:12:50]The ship pulled him into a vision of his own past, back to his wife, who had taken her own life years earlier after being worn down by his obsession with his work. That buried guilt became a weapon the ship [music] used against him, and Weir descended into total madness, gouging out his own eyes in the process. Elsewhere, Cooper and Smith had finished repairs on the Lewis and Clark and were preparing to leave. They spotted Weir walking calmly back toward [music] the event horizon and tried to stop him without success. Smith radioed Miller, who then noticed one of the corridor's explosive charges was missing. Realizing what Weir intended, Miller screamed a warning to get off the ship immediately, but it was too late.

[00:13:31]The charge detonated, tearing the Lewis and Clark apart.

[00:13:35]>> [music] >> Smith didn't survive. Cooper, thrown clear by the blast, managed to activate his suit thrusters and fight his way back toward the event horizon. With their escape ship destroyed, Miller radioed DJ to warn him about Weir, but Weir was already behind him. Blinded, yet somehow seeing through the ship itself, Weir choked DJ on conscious and tore him apart. When Miller reached the medical bay moments later, he found DJ's mutilated remains hanging above a floor slick with blood. [music] Rage overtook his shock, and he armed himself, hunting for Weir through the ship. He found Stark already knocked unconscious and carried her to safety, only to hear Weir's voice waiting for them in the control room. The gravity drive active once more, 10 minutes from opening a new gateway. Weir explained, almost gently, that the ship had gone looking for the stars and instead tore open to somewhere else entirely, a place built from nothing but destruction. He said the ship hadn't come back the same as it left. It came back alive, and it wanted to take them all back with it. Stark tried to attack him from behind, but Weir spotted her, struck her down, and threw her aside. He turned his weapon on Miller next, but Miller dodged, and the shot instead shattered the command deck's window, venting the room into open space and pulling Weir out to his death. Miller and Stark scrambled to safety in another section, weapons ready, expecting Weir's return when the airlock alarm sounded. Instead, it was Cooper, alive and back aboard. With only minutes left before the gateway reopened, Miller made his final call, detonate the corridor and separate the front section, using it as a lifeboat to drift free of the drive and away from Neptune. He sent Stark and Cooper ahead to the front section to set off a distress beacon while he armed the explosives himself.

[00:15:24]>> [music] >> Before he could escape the corridor, the burned figure of Korak appeared again, engulfing him in flame. Miller fled into the core chamber, now on fire himself, and threw himself into water to survive.

[00:15:37]When he surfaced, Korak was there once more, except this wasn't a hallucination this time. [music] It was revealed the real man had been pulled back from open space by the ship and twisted into something monstrous. He forced Miller to watch visions of his crew suffering in whatever place the ship had touched [music] and warned him the same fate was coming for him. Just as the gateway prepared to open fully, Miller found the detonator and pressed it without hesitation. The corridor exploded, splitting the ship in two. The front section drifted safely away into space, while the rear half, still connected to the active gravity drive, [music] was pulled into a violent wormhole and disappeared for good. 72 days later, a rescue team located the surviving front section, [music] finding Stark, Cooper, and the still comatose Justin alive inside. As one rescuer approached to revive Stark, she woke suddenly, asking desperately where the others were. He told her they were with them now, [music] but when he removed his helmet, it wasn't a rescuer at all. It was Weir, horribly burned, smiling in the dark.

[00:16:41]Stark shot awake screaming, drenched in sweat, back in the real rescue ship, [music] with Cooper holding her, telling her they were finally safe, but Stark wasn't so sure. She knew, somewhere deep down, that even though the event horizon was gone, whatever it had brought back with it hadn't disappeared at all.
