Why Pantera Needs To Stop

[00:00:00]This is Shred, and today we need to address the Pantera situation. As many of you know, Dimebag and Vinnie were the main creative engines of the band. But now that they're gone, many fans say they shouldn't even be allowed to use the name Pantera. And that's not all.

[00:00:15]Zakk Wylde has come under fire for playing Dime's lines wrong.

[00:00:19]>> [laughter] >> Not to mention, can the new drummer do Vinnie justice? Honestly, I can't imagine the pressure this new lineup must be facing. So today we'll be checking in with the new Pantera as they open for Metallica in Budapest. But I want to hear from you guys. Is Pantera doing Dime's will, or they destroying the group's legacy?

[00:02:34]Now, the thing about Dime's guitar parts, man, they're always like had a lot to do with the C word, you know, he would play all this chromaticism. He's like in in between the cracks of keys, you know?

[00:02:47]Instead of just playing normal chords.

[00:02:52]Well, let's see. Let's see if we can find what key that is. Dumb. Well, so that's probably like D. Yeah, okay, D.

[00:03:01]So, we got um let's see. It sounds like like a D Phrygian sound to me, right? So, and there is such thing as a Dime scale, too. But, this is kind of like uh D Phrygian-esque, right? So, let's put in uh D Phrygian's a hard word to spell. But, the more important thing, man, when it comes to like being a composer with modes and stuff is the chord. So, if you want to like write a song in D Phrygian, let's take [music] the minor one, and then what you do is you drop that [ __ ] up a half step. Boom, you got E flat.

[00:03:40]Okay, so, if we did it like this, do me like this, son. We got D minor to E flat. Man, that's your magic chordal cadence, if you really want to like write some [ __ ] in D Phrygian. Now, let's get back into it.

[00:05:40]The other thing I love about Zakk is look at him. He's jacked. You know, like God knows how old he is, but he's staying in great shape. Man, this is like just so important as you age. You got to stay in the gym.

[00:06:01]Now, is that like an It's probably a Maybe it's a wild You guys can let me know. It's probably not Dime's actual like Dean or anything, but let me know what he's playing.

And he probably never will, but he's getting closer all the time. Also, for some weird reason, Phil sounds amazing. The thing is, most singers tend to lose their punch as they age. Now, to the haters that think this is a disgrace to Dime and Vinnie's legacy, what the hell is wrong with you?

[00:07:31]Like, are you anti-Pantera? But hey, that's just my opinion. I'm curious, do you think the new Pantera is a disgrace to the Abbott brothers? Or is Zakk and Phil doing the Lord's work?
