In Arabic grammar, a word is identified as a verb (Fi'l) if it meets any of these criteria: (1) it follows the word 'cut' (qata), (2) it follows the word 'sofa' (sufah) indicating a fact, (3) it ends with 'that' (th) with sukoon indicating a feminine doer, (4) it can receive the particle 'qad' (indicating certainty with past tense), (5) it can receive 'sina' or 'sofa' (indicating future tense), or (6) its morphology allows it to receive the feminine 't' with sukoon. Conversely, a word is classified as a particle (Harf) if it has neither noun indicators (tanween or fatha/kasra) nor verb indicators.

Indicators of the Fi'l & Harf | Intro 3 | Arabic Grammar in 40 Lessons | Dr Shadee ElmasryAdded:
Let's now go to the indicators of the field.
Well, the verb you are a fool.
B cut what's seen what's sofa what's it that means a second Okay.
So, if any word that comes after cut this word cut is a verb. If you see the word cut, the word after it is a verb.
Simple as that.
Okay.
If you see the scene that indicates the future then that word is a fact.
Okay.
Say I don't know moon.
Color say I don't know moon. So my color say I don't know moon. Okay.
sofa If you see the word sofa Okay.
then anything that comes after it is without a doubt a fact. Okay.
So, that's number two.
or number three All right.
Now, what's next?
That it that means it's second. Any word that you see that ends looking like this that for the feminine of sukoon. The that that indicates sukoon. Such a word is always going to be a verb. Okay.
Anything that ends with a that with a sukoon. We call this that it that means it's second.
All right. That it that means it's second, which is that it is a that with a sukoon on it. And it indicates that a woman had done this thing. All right. The woman is the doer of the verb.
Okay. So, let's read it here. The sign of a verb is that it can receive the words قد which indicates Okay, which indicates certainty when preceding a past tense verb verb verb.
Okay, as in قد قامت الصلاة or speculation when preceding a present tense verb. Or that they are preceded by سين and سوف which shift the word from present to future. As in the Quran كلا سوف تعلمون or سيصلى نارا ذات لهب.
Okay?
All right, next.
If the morphology of a word allows it to receive the feminine ت the with a سكون then it is a verb and not anything else.
An example again, قد قامت الصلاة قد قامت الصلاة. So, here there are two indicators that the word قام is a verb.
The first indicator is قد. The second indicator is ت اتتني ساكنة قد قامت الصلاة. So, Arabic language consists of three words and these are the ways to identify which word is which. Lastly, now this is going to be the easiest one.
والحرف ما لا يصلح معه دليل الاسم ولا دليل الفعل. Okay, the حرف is that which has neither of the above indicators. So, if you're looking and it has neither of the above then it's going to be a حرف. Now, here's the thing.
When we're when we're talking about this, we're not saying that it has to have these things right now.
We're saying that if it could receive this, if you could possibly give it تنوين, if it could possibly give it a feth a kasra at the end, then it's an ism. If you could possibly give it sawfa or sa, then it is a fi'l.
Okay? So, that's how it is.
A string of kalimats are mufid that are mufid give us a jumla which is a sentence. More on that will come in future chapters.
All right. We will now start taking questions. So, how are you going to ask your questions?
Well, I mean, you can just Do we want every You you want to just type it in?
You could type it in. You want to talk?
You can talk. I don't mind people talking. So, if we if you want to talk, then um let me allow you.
All right. I'm I'm going to allow you to unmute yourself. I don't know if I'm going to regret this because if there are kids here, but uh so, mute yourselves, but if you want to talk, just unmute yourself and talk.
Okay?
Uh or ask a question if you have a question to ask.
Okay?
