[00:00:04]>> [clears throat] >> Chronic phlegm. And today we're going to show you how to get rid of it. If you're constantly clearing your throat and you have this mucus stuck over your vocal cords, you might want to consider things other than decongestants and antihistamines, especially if they're not working. We've been told that this problem is mostly postnasal drip or coming from our lungs. But there's another source that is way more common than both of these combined. And it's called silent reflux. And our body is trying to protect the vocal cords with mucus. And as soon as we get rid of that protective layer of mucus, then you can have damage to your vocal cords and end up with a voice that's hoarse or scratchy. A microscopic digestive enzyme called pepsin is actually stuck up here by the vocal cords. Pepsin is the most powerful enzyme that breaks down protein like steak. When you eat steak or meat, the acid in the stomach is supposed to trigger this enzyme to dissolve it. And so we don't want this enzyme to go through this valve from the stomach up into the esophagus up by your vocal cords right here. We don't want that there because these enzymes can then interact with your own proteins and irritate them and even dissolve them.

[00:01:21]And it really is not the typical heartburn that you might feel. And that's why they call it the silent reflux because it doesn't feel like acid reflux. So the reason why the mucus is there is to protect you from this enzyme. But the big question is why is the enzyme up here and why isn't it staying in the stomach? Well, it has to do with this little valve right here.

[00:01:42]You have two valves. You have one on the top of the stomach and you have one at the bottom of the stomach. And somehow this enzyme is escaping up through this area right through here because the valve is not closing correctly. There There many reasons why this valve won't close. One is you have a problem in your small intestine called small intestinal bacterial overgrowth that's producing gas because you're getting fermentation in the wrong part of your intestinal tract and that's pushing gas up through this valve into the stomach and pushing it up through here. That's one cause.

[00:02:17]Another cause, probably the more common cause, is the pH of your stomach is not acidic enough. Normally it should be between 1 and 3. And there's a whole sensor system with these valves and the pH. As the pH goes higher and becomes less acidic, you lose control of these valves. They don't close as tight. And it's pretty wild because a lot of people who have heartburn, guess what they take?

[00:02:43]Antacids. And so they feel better. But guess what it does? It actually alkalizes the stomach. Then it makes the problem worse over time. This is why you have to keep taking it over and over and over and it's not a long-term solution.

[00:02:56]And from my viewpoint, it's not even a short-term solution. If your environment is off, everything else struggles. It's like a fish tank. Pollute the water and the fish gets sick. You could feed them the best food. You can treat every single symptom, but if the water stays toxic, nothing recovers. This whole mechanism here is controlled by a nerve called the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is one of the longest nerves in the body. It's a parasympathetic nerve, okay? That's the nerve that controls rest and digestion. So, if you are too stressed, that can inhibit this system right here. This is why people don't digest that well when they're under stress. But, probably the biggest thing that weakens the pH and makes it go too high is this right here, frequent eating. We graze. We don't just eat three meals a day. We eat three meals plus snacks, and then we graze at night, unfortunately.

[00:04:16]And what that does is it not only creates this small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. It weakens the strength of the acid in the stomach. The stomach and the digestive system never have a chance to rest in between eating. It's a constant stress. And then, add getting older to this situation. As we age, we start losing the pH in our stomach as well. So, we have stress, frequent eating, taking antacids, getting older. This combination right here really creates a big problem with this valve right here. And so many people throughout the day are chronically just clearing their throat, and they don't even realize that they're doing it. Now, how do you know if you have this problem and not a post-nasal drip or a lung infection? Well, if you had a post-nasal drip, you probably have an allergy, you'd be sneezing, you'd probably have mucus coming down through your nose, in which case, that's a different problem, and I have videos on that. I'll put a link down below, okay?

[00:05:10]But, then what about your lungs? What if you have a lung infection? Well, with that, you're going to have other symptoms. You're going to usually have a productive cough, coughing up mucus.

[00:05:18]What I'm talking about is this constant clearing of the throat with mucus, creating just enough irritation to cause a mucus reaction. So, a lot of people ask me, "What supplements do I recommend?" Now, of course, I'm not biased with my own high-quality supplement line, but if you go to Amazon and type Dr. Berg supplements, you'll find more information. How do you correct this if you don't want to go down the road of taking more medications?

[00:05:44]Very simply, step one, we have to acidify the stomach. How do we do that?

[00:05:49]Couple ways. One tablespoon of apple cider vinegar in some water before a meal. You take it through a straw. Can be very beneficial.

[00:05:58]Ultimately, most people need to take betaine hydrochloride, which is a natural remedy, can be used to acidify the stomach. You would take maybe three or four before a meal.

[00:06:09]And sometimes you're going to need even more than that. I remember I was in practice, I needed to go up to five, six, seven, eight, sometimes even more to start helping the person because it's not pure acid. It's kind of the building blocks for acid and it slowly starts building up the acid in the stomach allowing you to digest and also just to correct this pH so this valve stays shut. This is a wonderful remedy also for acid reflux and heartburn unless you have an ulcer. How do you know you have an ulcer? Well, if you took this and then you get more burning, then we know you have an ulcer, in which case you need to heal it with something called zinc carnosine, which I will put the video down below if you have that problem.

[00:06:56]Step two, intermittent fasting, this is a must.

[00:07:00]You want to stop grazing between meals, only have two meals a day and no snacks.

[00:07:06]I have a video down there if you want to learn how to do this correctly, but intermittent fasting really will help correct this on a deeper level because it'll give the digestive system a chance to reset and heal. Step three is also important to making sure you have enough zinc and vitamin A to heal the tissues after you correct this right here. Some of the best foods for zinc, oysters, shellfish, red meat, and even liver.

[00:07:35]And then vitamin A, I do not recommend you take this as a supplement. But you can get it in cod liver oil and you can get it in egg yolks as well.
