In refrigeration systems, refrigerant is supercooled by sacrificing a portion of the liquid refrigerant, which flashes into vapor when pressure is dropped; this phase change absorbs heat and cools the remaining liquid to its saturation temperature, enabling effective cooling.

Refrigerant Supercooling Explained: Flash Gas Magic! #shortsAdded:
that refrigerant comes in at a I don't know 100 degrees and then it's coming out say 45 43 degrees. What happened between that liquid 100° and now we had to drop it. Just because we dropped pressure we can drop temperature but that's not enough. I have to physically drop the temperature of this liquid refrigerant. For me to do that I need refrigeration. I'm going to sacrifice and this is just lab conditions. This number is not standard. But if I sacrifice 25% of this liquid, I sacrifice it. I gave it up. Dropping the pressure, this 25%, bam, instantly flashes, immediately changes state from a liquid to a vapor. If it was water, it'd be 970 BTUs for every one pound that changed state. So, if I sacrifice 25% of this liquid, I can drop the remaining liquid into its saturation temperature, 43, 45, 40, whatever we're going to be through atmospheric conditions. So coming to the media device, yes, we have a pressure drop.
Yes, we have a temperature drop. But we have to sacrifice some of that liquid refrigerant to drop the remaining liquid down so that we can have it at saturation.
