Transgender issues have become heavily politicized due to multiple overlapping factors including civil rights and visibility movements, culture war politics involving gender roles, language, religion, sexuality, parenting, education, and medical ethics, media amplification of emotionally charged stories, rapid institutional changes in schools and workplaces, and political strategies that use these issues to mobilize voters, which has created a backlash cycle that negatively impacts transgender people's mental health and acceptance.

Why I Quit Making Trans ContentAdded:
Hey everybody, what's up? It's me, Aaron. It's your friend Aaron from the Aaron channel. Today I'm going to be talking about why I quit making videos about transgender topics. But first, let me just do this.
>> [music] [music] >> Okay. Um, so now I'm going to talk about it. Um, transgender people.
I wrote down in my handy dandy notebook some notes about this topic because I've kind of backed away from my channel for a while and I've not made any topics related to this. Um, and people probably have been waiting for some of this content and I've not made it. And there's a lot that goes into this. Um, why are the trans people politicized?
uh why were they not politicized so much just 10 years ago? Uh why are they um such a hot topic right now? And I'm going to explain why I believe it and why I believe that they are and my opinions being one, uh, how I feel about it and having a moderate stance on it for many years and sharing my beliefs on YouTube with hundreds of thousands of different individual viewers over the years. Um, so I have put my personal life experiences on YouTube for other people to hear and hopefully benefit or learn from because that's why I do this.
My channel is not monetized. I have not monetized my channel. It was only monetized for about one month. That was over a year ago. Um, but it was not monetized since then. Um, so I'm going to go into this. Um, I think that it's sad that trans people have become a political statement. Uh I don't think that they should be, but it's kind of like the gays in the 1960s,7s and 80s, especially the 1980s with grid and HIV and AIDS. Um, people assume it all came from the homosexuals and like it was first called grid gay related immune deficiency disease or something like it was gay related. It was just like strictly gay related they thought.
And Reagan wouldn't acknowledge the word AIDS until 1985 when Rock Hudson acknowled.
So um political uh movement activist organizations or trans policies.
So political movements organ act active active activist organizations or trans policies in the US trans issues became heavily heavily politicized for several overlapping issues. The first one is that civil rights and visibility. So, uh, more visibility in the 2010s, activists, legal protection, identity, documents, education, similar to gays in 1980s. So, um, in the 2010s, you saw a extremely big rise in people coming out of the closet as trans. That's like I would say mid2010s, 2014, 2015, 2016. That's when a lot of people came out of the woodwork and said, "Hey, I'm trans." And uh therapy became more normalized at that time and uh gay marriage was legalized, I believe 2015 on a national level here in the States.
So, it kind of like slowly was working into the next uh big thing, which was trans people cuz the gays got the uh their marriage. So, uh and I'm glad hopefully they can keep it. Um, another thing is the culture war politics. Trans topics became a culture war issue because they touch on gender roles, language, religion, sexuality, parenting, education, medical ethics.
So, I'm going to talk about culture war politics. Um, what I mean by this is that this is sensitive topics. These are culture war.
These are like key words or key subjects that trigger people whether you're on the left or you're on the right here in the United States. Um how you feel about let's just say gender roles like um an affeminite man that's less accepted here um like than it would be like let's say even in Japan um gender roles are a lot different in different countries. I mean we have more effeminite men than let's say in Egypt you cannot be so effeminite in Egypt. Um but you can be more affeminate here but being a feminine male is not the most wonderful thing for you if you choose to live in the United States. That's just one topic. Um gender ro language. So you you basically are requesting people to use these pronouns for you. If you're a trans person, you're asking your family. You're asking everyone you know to start calling you a new name and that's not who you were born as. Um so that's a pressure. It's almost like coercion to some people. Um religion, some religions believe that some people interpret their religion to believe that that's a sin. sexuality.
Some people feel some type of way after sleeping with a trans woman. Like they feel kind of gay after it cuz it's kind of gay. Parenting. Imagine raising a trans kid. God, I feel bad for my parents education. I'm glad I waited until I was an adult. Medical ethics.
So, this was a really touchy topic and a real culture war topic. Uh doctors that change people's sexes are not the most ethical people. A lot of people feel this way. No one wants to be known as that doctor. Especially back in the 80s and 90s, but it's become more socially acceptable in the 2010s. Media amplification, news outlets, and social media algorithms prioritize emotionally charged stories. Even though only about 0.7% of people are transgender, stories involving schools, athletes, healthc care for minors generates in intense engagement. So they receive disproportionate attention. So basically um this is a a pretty self-explanatory.
um news outlets are putting out these emotionally charged stories about children and um basically like in South Carolina I believe like they're making the transgender children use like portaotties outside of the school like they're not letting them use any bathrooms apparently like that's really emotionally charged especially for the Democratic uh candidates and people that are Democrats they think that's horrible for and it is horrible. No one should be forced as portaotties. Um, and I think that's really [ __ ] up. But, um, that's what they're pushing on to the trans people right now. I I have backed away from trans issues. That's why I've not been talking about it. Um, it's a personally affecting me and my mental health and I've had to step away from it myself because this environment is not good for a lot of trans people's mental health. It's like really [ __ ] up. the the whole administration's really [ __ ] up. Um, generates intrusive engagement.
Um, and basically like those type of stories really make you feel some type of way. Obviously, stories involving schools athletes like the Leah Thomas swimmer that's like 6' something and like she he swims way faster than all the other women. So, of course, he wins cuz he's a man. Um, healthc care for minors. That's self-explanatory. No children should transition activism. And I mean that that's my take with that whole thing with children. Like I don't think that they should be having to use portaotties because I don't think they should be letting these kids transition in the first place. But that's just my own two cents. Like you're really like um you're taking a hard life by doing this.
And I I wouldn't recommend letting parents like let their children do this.
Activism and institutional change. Some activists push for rapid institutional changes in schools, workplaces, medical medicine, and language. Critics viewed certain policies as ideological or coercive, while supporters view them as necessary civil rights. This tension helped create a pro u a perception of co of a coordinated agenda. I'm sorry I can't read read my own writing and I have no I have very poor eyesight. Um so basically what I mean by this is that activism and institutional change. So um the transgender people have pushed very rapidly especially postco like they've pushed very hard for uh like pronouns in the schools for the children. They push very hard for HRT for minors. They push really hard for sex changes for kids.
Uh, and in workplaces, they push really hard for a lot like transitions at work and expecting people to call them by this new name. Um, they, you know, and in medicine and language and critics I I I agree with some critics like you probably shouldn't be letting like all of these things happen so quickly.
That's why we've lost acceptance.
Obviously, we had acceptance for a hundred years and now we don't. You know, people were transitioning in the 1920s medically and we had more acceptance in the 1950s and60s than we do now basically. And that sounds insane to say, but it's the truth. Reactive reaction and backlash as transgender advocacy became more mainstream.
backlash from conservative religious groups, radical feminists concerned about feminine female spaces and others.
The backlash intensified the political focus. So, um, transgender advocacy became more mainstream. Backlash from conservatives, religious groups, and radical feminists concerned about spaces, safe, feminine, female spaces, and others. The backlash intensified political focus. So you've got all of this backlash coming out against the trans people that just intensifies the focus. Elections and political strategy and party strategy. Political strategists discovered transgender issues create mobile mo um see get this far. I can see political strategists discovered transgender issues could mobilize voters emotionally. And it says that it um court also um increase court cases uh focus on youth transition care and uh sports participation, school curriculums, parental rights, and military services. So there's a lot of reasons that this is in the politics.
Uh, it's a way to sway voters one way or the other. A lot of people know that if you're trans, it is a civil right, but if you're not trans, you would never understand that. Um, and I feel that it's really important for people to take a minute to not judge other people for who they are or how they live their lives. Um, and just accept people for the way that they are happiest. Like whatever makes someone happy, as long as they're not hurting other people, they're not hurting animals, they're not hurting children, and they're not hurting themselves in a way that's, you know, like physical self harm. I don't think that the transgender people deserve the backlash that we're getting right now. It's so bad that I've had to take a break from commentary about it. Um, it's affecting my mental health and I really feel bad for transgender youth. I feel horrible for them because I dealt with gender dysphoria growing up and I didn't know how to handle it because there was no YouTube uh and trans YouTubers that didn't exist when I was a teenager. So, I can't imagine what these kids go through now. Um, that's why I've not been making trans content. I've been playing that thing for you all and that's just what what makes me happy on my channel. Um I've just do what I like, what makes me happy. Uh not doing it for views or anything. Like I've created over 150 videos. Like I have a lot of helpful content on my channel. Like I feel like I've contributed everything I have to say at this point on trans issues. like if I have more life experiences that I have to share or surgeries that I go through that I will share, I will update in those videos.
Um, I feel like that like I said, I've really shared everything I've got to say about it. I'm sure I'll have updates as far as like this political environment with trans people. I'll keep you updated and there will be some future Aaron trans videos. I'm not saying they're done, but I'm just saying that that's why I've taken a break and you've not seen them for a few months and also why you will probably see very few of them compared to the past. Um maybe after this administration um you'll see more videos about this and maybe after some more surgery I will create and more videos that update you on different parts of my life. Um my mom has another chemotherapy. She has ovarian cancer. So she had metastatic breast cancer. She went through chemotherapy for that and then she got a double masectomy and then she went through radiation. Then she got a hyerectomy and when she had that they found out that she had ovarian cancer and that ovarian cancer had not responded to her chemotherapy for her breast cancer. So she's got to start well she just started uh chemotherapy today and my dad has spinal surgery on the 20th. So, I am going to be going back down to Atlanta um and helping my family. So, you'll probably see my videos coming back from my old room on my new videos that you'll see um hopefully everyone will u keep in touch. If you'd like an autograph, I actually signed autograph um for a fan and mailed it. Like if you would like an autograph from me, uh my I will include my email in the bio, you can email me and shoot me a link. Um I will do autographs if you pay for postage. Um I'm happy to do them and I will also be pulling my book from the shelves. So um I won't be having that book. I will be uh releasing a new book though sometime later this year. It will be like an updated version of my book. It will be through kind of a different narrative.
Living in Massachusetts has kind of like changed my perspective on things. Not completely changed me by any means, but it's changed my uh views and kind of balanced everything else out. But until next time, thanks.
