My Physical Media Retail Store Is NOT A Storage Unit, But A Converted Warehouse Space

[00:00:00]Hello everybody, it's Andrew from 510 Books. I am here in my store [snorts] in Southern California and it is the end well, it has been the end of the day in terms of the end of the work day for me uh for the store for the last hour and a half, but um I've been working I had people here till about 5:15, so I've been working on putting everything away that didn't sell and by the way uh I am stuffed up, so my voice sounds a little funny. Um putting everything away that didn't sell and then putting out all the new inventory for next week, which I've already done, which is awesome, which means tomorrow Sunday I don't have to do anything in regards to the store, so that feels really good, but um but uh what I what was I saying?

[00:00:42]I'm a little out of it. Um but yeah, it's Saturday May 16th, 2026 and um today was a good Saturday, not a great Saturday, but good and I had an interesting so it is it is uh looks like it's going to rain here, although it was drizzling in the morning.

[00:01:00]But um but it looks like uh it looks like it's going to rain. I don't know if it will.

[00:01:05]Someone asked me in the comments if this is a storage unit and it's not a storage unit, although it could be used for storage. It these are warehouses.

[00:01:15]They are small 800 square foot warehouse spaces. Every single roll up door you see going all the way down is an individual unit and there are actually there's 13. Really? Is that right?

[00:01:31]I thought there was 12 on each side, but there's 13, so that means there's 26 warehouse units in this building cuz there's another bunch on the other side of the building. Um so the back my back wall is up against someone else's back wall on the other side. Um so yes, you could use this as storage. Some people do.

[00:01:49]Um but I you know, it's a warehouse space.

[00:01:54]So storage is storage, right? Like it may or may not have a roll-up door, but typically, at least here in Southern California, storage units uh they have light, but it's crappy light. They don't usually have um outlets on the walls.

[00:02:11]And uh there's no bathroom.

[00:02:16]Uh there's Yeah, like I said, crappy lighting, no bathroom, no outlets in the wall. So, it's hard to work out of those spaces unless you have like a little generator or whatever. Um I did work out of a a storage unit, though. If you look back at my videos a long, long time ago, we're talking like seven [snorts] plus years ago, um I was working out of a storage unit, but this is a warehouse space. And that Oh, that's the other thing is this this has a roll-up door like some storage units, but it also has a proper door, proper entry. It has both.

[00:02:47]It even has a little window, even though it's it's um it's dark.

[00:02:52]Um so, anyway, that's to answer some people's questions that it Cuz a lot of people will comment and say, "Oh, are you working out of a storage unit?" And I mean, it's not.

[00:03:04]>> [laughter] >> If it was a storage unit, I couldn't have the sale. I couldn't have the store.

[00:03:08]Um so, it's just a small warehouse space. It's not a giant. You know, you think of a warehouse space, you think of like thousands of square feet, which typically are warehouses, but there are smaller warehouses. I know of other ones, a lot of them, in the area that people have business businesses in where they might have like >> [snorts] >> a space that's more of like an office type of environment, and then they have the the warehouse with the roll-up door where they get inventory in, send it out, that kind of thing. So, there are a lot of spaces like this here in Southern California. I I I don't know if that's the same where you are, but anyway, um that's a side note. What I wanted to talk about is um also, I was looking at the numbers for this week in terms of the the amount of sales, the number of sales I had, number of purchases and um the gross sales.

[00:03:59]>> [sighs] >> And what's crazy is I had two more sales this week compared to last week, yet last week I made um I think it was like three $350 more for the whole week.

[00:04:16]So, only a difference of two sales. So, that's somebody coming in and buying something, whether they're buying one item or they're buying 30 items. That's considered a sale. Um so, 58 today and 56 last week.

[00:04:30]>> [snorts] >> Um and yet I made way more money last week. Why? Because the average sale price was higher. So, I had I what it ends up happening is last week happening last week and the week before is that cuz the week before I had the same amount I had like 56 sales, too, 2 weeks ago. And the last 2 weeks I hit my weekly goal. So, uh sales goal, gross sales goal. So, um it's because last 2 weeks I had multiple people come in and spend way above the average, right? Like some most people will come in and they and they you know, they'll buy a couple of CDs, a handful of DVDs. They might spend like anywhere between like $6 to $15 >> [snorts] >> or even less than, you know, the 15.

[00:05:13]Um but then somebody [clears throat] will come in and they'll spend $50, $70, $100, that kind of thing.

[00:05:20]And it'll it'll uh shoot up the average sale price. So, it's just interesting to see that even if you get the even when I get or anybody gets the same amount of sales in terms of the the quantity of sales, um you know, 58 versus 56, 100 versus 98, whatever it is. Uh there goes somebody. Um and somebody else.

[00:05:45]So, I'm going to have to close the gate in a second, myself. But, anyway, um >> [snorts] >> then uh there still might be a big difference between the gross sales numbers, right?

[00:05:56]Versus just how many items you sold. So, even though I had, you know, let's say 60 sales, way more people bought way more items individually. So, um so, you just you know, you never know, even though you have even [snorts] though I'm maintaining around the same amount of weekly sales in terms of the the amount of people that are purchased at least one item, right? Uh it's still different different numbers, different profit uh or gross profit.

[00:06:23]Gross numbers, I guess. Gross sales. So, if that makes sense. Um So, you know, every week's different, like I said. This week is not as good in terms of the gross gross numbers, but it's I'm still getting in the same amount of people. Now, of course, I want to increase the amount of people that come in the door, and I'm always going for that every week.

[00:06:42]Um and we will see, you know, [snorts] I want to see that number going up, because the more the more people that come in and purchase something, obviously, the more uh the more money I I can potentially make on a weekly basis. So, just thought I would throw [clears throat] that out there. Um it's not always the same from week to week in terms of I I am being consistent in terms of the amount of people that are making a purchase, but but uh I don't have any, you know, control over how much uh how much stuff each individual buys.

[00:07:16]And, you know, sometimes it's just like that, and that's just what it is. Uh some weeks are better than others, but over time my goal is to increase. Now, I'm I'm setting it at, you know, my goal is a gross amount per week of sales, but maybe I should look at how many people came in and bought at least one item, right? Made a purchase. Uh and try to increase that number. And they're kind of, you you that related, but but um the bottom line is is just getting more people in the door and and that'll bring in you know, more purchases, more sales, that kind of thing.

[00:07:50]Uh and then I started going Uh I started going through some DVDs that were that were left not left, but that were part of the a book donation or mostly of a big book donation pickup that I made uh a while back and there's some really good stuff in there, turns out.

[00:08:06]>> [snorts] >> Some box sets and some DVDs and whatnot and then there's some CDs as well. And there's another uh crate or tub of more, so I'll be going through that and seeing what's in there.

[00:08:18]But um yeah, it's just funny because it you know, it feels the same like the same amount of people came in all week, but yeah, I didn't make as much money.

[00:08:26]>> [laughter] >> And that's just what you know, that that's just what happens. I think I think the bottom line is getting more people in the door which then leads to more people making at least buying at least one item uh making a purchase um is the bottom line, right? More bodies in the door, more customers, more repeat customers.

[00:08:43]Uh and that's just you know, what it is.

[00:08:48]Uh I also listed some items on on eBay today, but anyway, uh I appreciate you guys watching. It's been it's an ongoing journey um and I I do like talking about it, but I am pretty tired right now. I'm going to head home and I'll see you in the next video. Take care.
