When building a K-series Honda engine for performance, the K24 engine offers better low-end torque and reliability compared to the K20, making it ideal for builds targeting 500-600 horsepower; essential upgrades include a Gear-X transmission with cryo-treated gears and brass synchros, a twin disc clutch for reliable power transfer, and stiff suspension with PCI tie rods to eliminate bump steer, while keeping the build simple and maintaining daily drivability.

Built K24 Turbo Rsx Build Breakdown : Parts and Cost
Added:Hell yeah, what's good guys? Welcome back. Sorry about the wait man, I know it's been a [ __ ] minute and a half this time around. Um, I had a couple plans on how the videos are going to work this year and the one video I had planned to do like a big update is just taking forever, you know what I mean? So, I'm just going to go ahead and obviously post this video so you guys can get a slight update, see that we're still alive, we're still kind of ripping around, you know what I mean?
And I really do appreciate you guys being so patient with me, you know what I'm saying? I know I take [ __ ] forever in a day to post and keep you guys updated on some [ __ ] man, but yeah, we've been kind of chilling. It was winter, you know, not much going on. Car had some issues, finally got it back to like 100% kind of. It's never 100% really like 90.
Um, but yeah, and then kind of just driving around looking for runs and [ __ ] and nothing's been really going on, so it's been pretty slow, I can't lie, you know? So, and I don't want to force content. You guys know I hate doing that [ __ ] you know what I mean? I just want to keep it genuine, keep it real, so uh when the content is there to be made, 100% I'll make it, you know what I'm saying? More than happy to, for real.
Love sharing the journey with you guys, you know? But uh yeah man, you guys are loyal as [ __ ] I can't lie. I really got to put that out there.
Um, I post as much as Daniel Day-Lewis makes movies. I've said that before, but it's true as hell cuz god damn, 6 months is crazy, you know what I mean? I post on social media and [ __ ] a little bit on IG, little TikTok action here and there. Definitely got to get the YouTube back going man, you know, I'm psyched to uh put this video out. If you can tell from the board behind me, we got some things happening, you know what I mean?
For the RSX build breakdown. Hoping that we get some decent seat time this year and for the years to come hopefully on this setup.
Um, it is a [ __ ] ton to maintain already and to keep on the road and to to just keep happy. So, we'll see what we can do, you know what I mean? But I'm excited to be ripping around, already got a couple runs in, you know, you guys already seen those.
Um, hopefully we get a couple more this year.
We'll see what the summer has in store for us. You know what I'm saying? As far as the update video, I've been working hell of hard on that [ __ ] I'm hoping by this weekend everything is kind of set and done and we can kind of progress a little bit on that front cuz it's it's it's a long ass time coming, you know what I mean? And kind of sick of working on that video right there for certain reasons. Once the video comes out, I'll explain a lot more. You'll understand. It's just a pretty big update, so that's why it's taking so long. Switching some things around, you know what I mean? I don't want to give too much away, you know, but definitely look out for it. Definitely just keep the notifications on. Look on the IG, the TikTok, you know, I'll try to update on the stories and things like that as much as I can, you know what I mean? But enough of me talking [ __ ] man. Let's go ahead and get into this video.
Hell yeah. So, without further ado, let's go ahead and get into this K24 RSX build. Before you guys go ahead and dip out, once you learn the pricing of all these parts, I'll be doing a more in-depth explanation on the parts used, my experience with them, so that if you do end up using some of the same parts, you have a decent idea of what to expect.
>> [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] [music] >> Mhm.
>> [music] >> Now, that's a decent amount of cash to spend on an old Honda, you know what I mean? But, if it's worth it to you, which it was worth it to me, always wanted a RSX and to boost it. I never really had the plan to go ahead and [ __ ] send it to the moon, but things change over time, you know what I'm saying? So, it is what it is. Now, we're here. Also, this does not include the maintenance cost to keep the car running, you know, things blow up and break all the time, whatever the hell.
I've went through three DW400 pumps and numerous [ __ ] parts over the years, you know what I'm saying? Fuel lines and little O-rings and [ __ ] like that.
Uh and nonetheless, our first setup that got us to 450. So, by this point, well over 50,000 in the RSX, easy. Like, for sure, you know what I'm saying? That's our touch-up paint and all this [ __ ] you know what I'm saying? Just little little things here and there. Um but yeah, man, I wouldn't want it any other [ __ ] way, for real. But, looking back on it, man, you know, this is the car that started it all, you know, the whole social media, making videos, you know, never really thought I'd be doing this type of stuff, but uh yeah, this car started it all, you know?
So, very thankful and I don't think I would change anything along the journey, you know what I'm saying? Um it's been a few years we've been at it now, but yeah, thankful and grateful, you know what I'm saying? Appreciate you guys, for real. But yeah, enough talking, man, let's get to these parts and start chopping it up. Hell yeah. So, first things first, uh why did we go with the K24?
Makes a little more torque down low.
They could technically handle a little more power. I mean, really kind of up to you, whatever you want to believe. Um on paper though, they can handle a little more than the K20. And uh I'm impartial to the K20 cuz I really like the K20s.
That's what we were making power on before.
But we blew that up pretty [ __ ] good.
So, this time around we went with the K24 K20 uh Frankenstein, you know what I mean? We got the K20Z1 head on there. Uh K24A uh JDM motor. Um it is not sleeved. It is uh stock sleeves.
Um for the power that I'm looking to make and I obviously made by now, um didn't really need it. And uh once you go over that power level, you got to go ahead and build the transmission up.
Again, you know what I'm saying? I didn't really see the point in doing the sleeves. It would have took a little longer. I was just trying to get the car back, so you know, now we're here. Um but even at that point, after like uh 7-800, you want to go ahead and build the trans um or get a different one or a PPG or whatever the hell. So, the Gear-X is pretty maxed out, I would say, or close to it, at least for drivability for me. Um but yeah, so that's why we went with the uh K24 K20 Frankenstein.
Make a little more power, be a little more reliable, you know what I'm saying?
You can only [ __ ] hope. Um but yeah, you know what I'm saying? It makes some decent power and hopefully now that it's built, can kind of sustain that a little bit more, you know what I'm saying? Now, you can make 600 stock block, stock whatever the hell stock transmission, cool, great. Um your heart's going to be in your ass the entire [ __ ] time, you know what I'm saying? Like you're just going to be worried something's going to blow the [ __ ] up. Trust me. I did that [ __ ] for like maybe 6 months until uh the transmission blew up and then the motor blew up, you know what I'm saying?
So, didn't take much time after 600 horsepower on stock block and stock trans for me anyway, that's my experience.
It was not very [ __ ] good. So, hopefully this time around we get a little [ __ ] more time with it, you know, knock on wood. [ __ ] hell. Hold up.
Type [ __ ] So, yeah, yeah, yeah. Hell yeah. So, to talk about the transmission a little bit, we went ahead and did the Gear-X 1 through 5.
It has cryo treated gears, the brass synchros, you know, the whole nine as far as the Gear-X is concerned. Holds down the power pretty [ __ ] well compared to the stock transmission. Now again, this was for a little more reliability, you know what I mean? You can make this type of power maybe on a stock transmission. It's just not going to last like I said. So, the 1 through 5 seems to be doing pretty well when you're switching gears.
It's [ __ ] It's hitting gears, okay?
Like that It's [ __ ] hooking. But yeah, there's no more like just [ __ ] driving around daily kind of lollygagging gear. That shit's out the [ __ ] window. We also have a twin disc clutch for the transmission. The twin disc life is a [ __ ] It's a totally different world, dude. Like there's no There's this much [ __ ] room, all right? to play for the clutch. Like it's it's in gear or not. Like you're either stalling or grabbing or blowing up a [ __ ] gear. You know what I'm saying? Like there's really no [ __ ] play. But it grabs hard as [ __ ] hell.
And you need it. Like for this power you need it. Like a [ __ ] a regular four puck, six puck, whatever the [ __ ] is not going to do it. So, twin disc is the way.
Um but you need it for this type of power level. It does change the car completely. It's for all intents and purposes a [ __ ] race car. All we're missing is a Fig Newton sticker right the [ __ ] there, a number on the side, and [ __ ] Ricky Bobby sticker on the back, and we're [ __ ] good to go. You know what I'm saying? Need Reese Bobby in the stands.
Just Ricky.
You know what I mean? Like it's it's it's [ __ ] pretty much that type of car, man. You know what I'm saying? Like it it's pretty tough to drive daily, you know what I'm saying? [ __ ] like that.
Yeah, as far as suspension is concerned, it's on the Godspeed mono RS's. They keep it pretty tight. You have the adjustable dampening to make the ride how you want it, you know, stiffer, softer, whatever the hell works for you.
Honestly, with these cars I would probably make it a little more stiff.
They like to kind of jump a little bit, get the bump steer, and they [ __ ] sway more than [ __ ] Michael Bublé, you know what I'm saying? It [ __ ] It just wants to go left or right more than it wants to go straight, you know what I mean? Now, it's a hell of a [ __ ] ride. I will tell you that. The The god damn adrenaline is [ __ ] up here, bud.
You know, you kind of lose a little bit of performance cuz you're slipping and sliding doing all this dumb [ __ ] but honestly, you're probably having way more fun than the dude next to you, you know what I'm saying? So, that's kind of what I'm after. Not trying to be the fastest dude alive, but just trying to have some [ __ ] fun, you know what I'm saying? And she's plenty of it to say the least. Now, to help us out with a little bit of that bump steer, torque steer kind of problem, we did PCI or PCL PCI tie rods.
They're big old thick joints, all right?
These are no [ __ ] joke. Compared to the [ __ ] stock ones, Jesus Christ.
They're like thick as hell. You're supposed to invert whatever the hell rod at the end so you can kind of eliminate some of that bump steer and [ __ ] like that. Now, I will say we did do that, and that's why these kind of look a little off center.
It does help a little bit with the the torque steer, and the bump steer is essentially kind of gone, you know what I'm saying? The rack and the the coils kind of did their thing.
And the steering rack, you know what I'm saying? Keeps it a little more level.
There's no riser in there or anything like that, you know what I mean? But the bump steer is pretty much gone. Unless you're really [ __ ] giving it everything you possibly have, it's going to be tough to eliminate all the bump steer, you You what I'm saying?
But as long as you pedal it pretty good, and you know how to [ __ ] drive a little bit, you'll be all right. You know what I'm saying? But with this setup right here, how it's set up with the EP3 rack, you know, um it still has power steering, you know, that doesn't help my torque steer situation.
So, but I like the daily driving, and uh it's a little nicer in that end. Now, if we didn't have power steering, probably would be way better in a [ __ ] straight line, you know what I'm saying?
So, way less squirrely. Uh but I live for the squirreliness. I I [ __ ] love it, you know what I mean?
Um so, we're keeping the power steering.
But honestly, yeah, with the the rack, the power steering, um the coils being adjusted to like midway, you know, pretty stiff. Um yeah, it's a pretty good setup. It's also on uh stock AutoZone axles, you know what I'm saying? So, you know, they've been holding it down for like 5 years, I think 6 years now.
So, not a not a bad time right there for the axles. Um if we do hook any better, like if we did have some big old meaty tires, and they're as slicks, we would probably [ __ ] blow up an axle, you know what I'm saying?
Maybe blow up the transmission, cuz once you [ __ ] hook, all that power is being made at that moment, and it's getting delivered right to your [ __ ] drivetrain.
So, that's all right. I kind of like slipping and sliding, you know, give up a little performance for some reliability.
[ __ ] it. This is where we're at, you know what I'm saying? So, I enjoy the setup exactly how it is.
Um but yeah, if you guys want to set your car up something like this, you know, the car set up for reliability, technically, even at 6 [ __ ] 100 horsepower, 670, if I'm being exact, um it's it it yeah, that that's it's for reliability, hopefully. Hell yeah. So, that's pretty much it on the build, you know, the price of everything, uh a little bit of info and advice. Uh the best advice I could possibly give you for building pretty much any [ __ ] car, especially K-series though, is keep it simple, stupid. Um most of the Honda parts, uh stock parts, will handle most of the [ __ ] that you throw at it, you know what I mean? Now, I'm on stock throttle body, stock intake manifold, the motor and transmission are built, but if you're keeping it around 500, you could leave everything [ __ ] stock and boost the hell out of it up to 500 horsepower and call it a day. Uh [ __ ] in my experience at 450, dude, it had [ __ ] no issues. Like, turbo, motor, transmission, it didn't give a [ __ ] what I threw at it at 500 or less, you know what I'm saying? I was beating the [ __ ] out of it every day. I think the videos do justice to that. Most of the videos you guys see was that setup, stock motor, stock transmission, beating the [ __ ] out of it every day, you know what I'm saying? It was the greatest [ __ ] time ever.
Also, that's uh another piece of advice.
Um if you're looking to have some fun and keep it reliable and not break the bank, essentially, relatively to everybody, um stay around 500 horsepower. Uh that was the most fun I've ever had with this car. I could drive it every day, you know, do runs, do whatever the [ __ ] I still could drive it daily, like, lollygagging in gear and [ __ ] like that.
It wasn't super aggressive, you know what I mean? So, yeah, dude. And I've talked to so many people over the years that say pretty much the same [ __ ] Like, yeah, going for 1,000 horsepower, all that shit's fun. Yeah, it's great. Um but the most fun is [ __ ] 500 horsepower, dude, no lie. And a lot of people that make stupid power that I've talked to say the same [ __ ] and it's for a [ __ ] reason, you know what I'm saying? Cuz you can just dog the [ __ ] car and enjoy it. You don't have to worry about it. Your heart's not in your ass that you're going to shoot a [ __ ] piston in an orbit, you know, or blow the [ __ ] transmission up, or whatever, you know what I mean? Like, at that power level, these cars, the K-series, they they love it, honestly. Like they they were [ __ ] meant to be boosted for 500 horsepower out the factory, for real.
But, you know, that's you know, take that advice if you want to. You could be a dumbass like me and [ __ ] shoot for the moon, go for 600, 700 horsepower.
I wouldn't [ __ ] recommend it, honestly. But it is what it is. Uh we're here now. Once you get that horsepower bug, you're [ __ ] cooked. So, if you guys do get that [ __ ] uh I pray for you cuz god damn, bro, it's it sucks, man.
You you just want more and more, you know? So, uh but honestly, the way things sit right now, dude, I'm pretty [ __ ] happy with the car, dude. I I don't want more power right now. I just want to [ __ ] drive it, enjoy it, and uh make some content for you guys, for real, dude. It's it's it's been a you know, a blessing to have you guys here for the uh the journey. Never thought we'd be on this type of journey, for real, but uh yeah, this is where we're at. Hell yeah, but if I missed anything, dude, hit me up in the comments, you know what I'm saying? If you guys have any questions about the car still, I know I'm definitely missing some [ __ ] I don't know, I just that's just how it goes. Um but yeah, man, hit me up in the comments, the DMs, you know, social media, whatever. Uh always love to help you guys out, you know, especially if you're just starting build this hard as hell, not knowing anything.
Uh it took a fuckton of research to get the car to look like this, you know what I'm saying? So, if I could help out, all the better. Hell yeah. All right, yeah, I think that's a wrap on this video, man. Um I'm still working on the update video. It's taken [ __ ] hella long, dude, and it's so unfortunate, honestly.
So, I really apologize about the wait.
Um not really in my control, you know what I'm saying? I just don't want to give too much away. I don't want to [ __ ] you know, give away the surprise type [ __ ] but definitely working hard at it, so keep an eye out for that video.
Honestly, it's a uh it's a pretty big update, you know what I mean? Or updates, I should say. Um but I hope you guys are excited as I am to actually share with you guys, for real. Um oh, I think you guys will be excited. I know I'm [ __ ] excited. Uh, so hopefully you guys are too, you know what I'm saying?
Um, but yeah, man.
I think that's a wrap on the video. Uh, I did about as much explaining as I possibly could on the car.
Um, I hope you guys enjoy this one.
Sorry it took so long again.
And uh, hopefully I catch you guys in Mexico, man.
