Swanson offers a keen insight into how deeply ingrained regional habits function as an inescapable social signature in a foreign landscape. It’s a thoughtful reminder that our most mundane choices are often the loudest declarations of where we come from.

Why I Can't Help But Stand Out in ParisAdded:
Among the many things that make me stand out here in Paris, top among them when it's raining at least is probably that I don't like to use umbrellas. In fact, I never use umbrellas.
Gross. This is partly for practical reasons. I hate carrying stuff, whether it's gear or just like I don't know, anything. An umbrella, if nothing else, is ultimately just a sometimes useful accessory. I have a bad habit of losing them, breaking them, leaving them behind on the metro. In short, umbrellas are trash. And before anybody gets mad, I uh I found this in the trash. It generally doesn't work. Weirdly enough, this is also a little bit of a cultural holdover. I'm from the Northwest in the US, and for whatever reason, we look at umbrellas with suspicion at best. I grew up wearing rain jackets, but the problem that I have with my current rain jacket um is that it kind of sucks. Let's go for a little walk in the rain, shall we?
I get I just feel like a good rain jacket should like keep you dry. I don't know. I should probably look up what the actual reasonable like limit for what to expect from a rain jacket keeping you dry really is. But um yeah, it should be more than 5 minutes.
It has been over 5 minutes of standing here. Let's go see what the results are. To be fair to the rain jacket, I was out there for, you know, more, like 7 minutes, but um yeah, I think I think I think I need a new rain jacket.
Even Cooper has a nicer rain jacket than I do, but not for long. Umbrellas are also useless when on a bike. But today, I'm going to show you three different brands of rain jackets that would be very useful to have on a bike. And I'm going to ask what you think below.
Rains. This has been on my radar for a long time. I like the look, the style very much. But what I was warned about was that they're not the most breathable. However, he found one for me that he said was the perfect combination of breathable and [music] ampaly in navy blue. Kway has been on my radar for a really long time as well. It's very popular now. And originally when I first saw it, I didn't really like the style too much. It grows on you over time. And now it is. And I mean with this orange, although egg. [music] This is the lightest one that I've tried so far. Let me know what you think. Long, short, the color, the brand. Let me know also if you have any preconceived notions about each brand in particular, what you've heard. And uh I'm very curious to know what your vote is. Ladies count double, of course.
But rain jackets and umbrellas aren't the only way that I buck the trends here in France. Another is beer. Tonight, we're going to take you to three places that are in my guide. And one place I've been dying to try for years and just never gone into because apparently I'm an ambassador for the Paris Beer Festival. And if you know what that means, please feel free to let me know in the comments below cuz I'm not entirely sure myself. However, we're out with the Paris Beer Club tonight, who [music] are funding our little romp through the city. And it's going to be a good time. The place behind me, Ladder, you've probably seen in a number of my vlogs over the years because they're one of my favorite places to get a craft beer, some natural wine, and then head to the canal or a party in the neighborhood. And because I love to party in this neighborhood, it is a spot that I mean, I probably have some loyalty points there, to be honest.
These guys really know their stuff. They don't have any pop tonight, unfortunately, which is one of my favorite breweries in France. They're getting it tomorrow, so we'll come back another time. But we're going to go from here to We Are Brewers on the canal, the dry part of the canal just around the corner.
>> We found the perfect beer for Mark, >> but it's a strong one.
>> Hey, and then from there, we're going to hit up a tap house and another kev or seller for beer. So, stick around for that. But if you're going to be in town at the end of May, the Paris Beer Festival will be going on for an entire week. I will be there. You should come there. Tickets below for the grand event, the the big event, the big show.
Make sure to check that link out below.
And uh thanks to the Paris Brew Club for uh [sighs] taking us out. Paris Beer Club.
But brew Club sounds pretty cool.
[music] If only I had a rain jacket, my life would be so much drier right now. Where's your umbrella?
>> Who needs umbrella? You live in Paris, man.
Oh my god. Oh, right in the Oh, I'm going to be soaked. I'm going to be soaked. We are Brewers was really nice.
The pizza is a bar pizza, but it definitely is a nice bar snack. Oppy corner classic. Great selection of beer.
It was nice to go in there. I I haven't been there much lately. It is absolutely pouring right now, which is great. We're freshening up for our last stop. We have had two bars close on us. So, we're deviating course significantly here and heading to Bonus, which you might know from the game in 2019. And from my passport, speaking of which, thanks to Christopher Kelsey and all my patrons for buying this round because definitely wanted to treat my friends to at least one. And if it wasn't for my patrons, wouldn't happen. Thanks. Which you can get if you pre-order my book right now.
This was not supposed to be a plug for my book, but it's turning into one. go get my book right now because we're they're going to start printing them and then we're going to run out and you're not going to be able to get it. We already also have a limited number of passports. So, if you want to make all this suffering in the rain walking around showing you bars that you'll enjoy when you're in Paris worth it and you want to get a discount when you go to some of them, you should go grab that passport right now. Thanks for watching.
See you tomorrow.
