[00:00:07]We go left, we go right, we alternate back and forth. We don't seem to settle anywhere. And there's an appetite in us to just fix it where we want. We want the pendulum to stop rocking. Us having to adjust to wins and losses by our standards, you know, oh good, the pendulum is moving this way. Oh bad, it's heading back the other way. There are pendulum stiffies. These are people who want to lock it down. Wherever their set point is, that's where it belongs.

[00:00:36]They want to lock that joint and turn it stiff so that it just stays there forever. One form this takes is what you call memocide. Memocide would be to kill an idea once and for all. It's a fabulous fantasy of many an idealistic, fundamentalist, tyrannical movement.

[00:00:56]Because these are people who want to lock it down once and for all and avoid the exhausting pendulum swings of everyday life.
