Athletes possess significant power to drive social change, as demonstrated by Coach Bear Bryant's realization that diversity improved Alabama's football program and Kylin Hill's successful campaign to remove Mississippi's Confederate flag; the NAACP's 'Out of Bounds' boycott calls on athletes to refuse representing states that roll back voting rights and instead support HBCUs and institutions with strong diversity, equity, and inclusion programs.

Out of Bounds Boycott #NAACP #votingrights #athleticprograms #liberationAdded:
In 1970, the University of Southern California played a football game against the University of Alabama.
They destroyed the University of Alabama 42 to 21.
University of Alabama's famous coach, Coach Bear Bryant, went to the boosters and the administration sharing with them why they lost.
At Alabama, we only have players who are white.
The University of Southern California, they have diversity, equity, and inclusion.
If you want a winning team, make sure our team can look like the University of Southern California.
That statement changed the University of Alabama where they opened the doors to black athletes.
Today, the University of Alabama football team is 80% African-American.
They have a DEI program.
Louisiana State University, 78% of their football players are black.
The University of Tennessee, now they do not release their quote racial data, but by looking at folk on the field, >> [laughter] [cheering] >> about 60% black.
The University of Florida, 70%.
Old Miss, 80% of their football players are African-American.
Why do I mention this?
Because athletes have power and don't know it.
It was in 2020, a star athlete from Mississippi by the name of Kylin Hill, put this statement on Twitter. He said, "Either change the flag or I will not represent this state anymore."
Mississippi still had the Confederate flag as a part of their state flag.
In 1 year, in 2021, the governor and the state legislature got together and they changed the Mississippi flag.
I mention this because the NAACP has called for a very special boycott.
A boycott entitled out of bounds. A boycott for all athletes to make sure that they will not give of their services and their gifts to states that are rolling back voting rights.
Take your talents to an HBCU.
>> [applause] >> Take your talents to USC, Ohio State, but do not take your talents to places like the University of Alabama, the University of Mississippi, states that are very clear that they want to roll back our voting rights. You may join the NAACP and I want to amplify what the NAACP is doing.
If you are a coach, if you are a parent, if you are a big mama, if you are an auntie or an uncle, you have someone in your family you have influence. Let them know that they can go to a school where their gifts are respected. Do not support a school or funding of a state that is trying to roll back voting rights. We have power, we have to teach our young people that they have power and no school can have a quote athletic program unless you got some diversity, equity, and inclusion.
And that is my 5 minutes. Peace.
