The Austin Flint murmur is a mid-diastolic murmur that mimics mitral stenosis, occurring when regurgitant blood from aortic regurgitation gushes back into the left ventricle during early diastole and partially closes the mitral valve, creating a functional obstruction that produces a murmur similar to true mitral stenosis.

Austin Flint Murmur Explained: Aortic Regurgitation Mystery Solved #shortsAjouté :
All the murmur you see.
Or is there another murmur that happens that is spoken about in the books?
It's got a funky name to it.
It's called Austin Flint murmur.
Right?
What is an Austin Flint murmur?
Let me put it this way.
If this was your mitral valve. So, in order to understand this, I'm going to put the aorta in the normal location where it's supposed to belong. Okay?
So, normally when you look at the left ventricle, typically, you the aorta leaves like this, correct? This is how the aorta is from the left ventricle, right? And then over here you have your mitral valve, right? And this is your tricuspid valve, right? So, imagine when somebody has got a early diastolic murmur, right? What's happening? The blood's gushing back, right? During early diastole, when the blood gushes back from the aorta into the ventricle, early diastole, right? During early diastole, is your mitral valve supposed to be open?
Yes, cuz you're supposed to fill up your ventricle with blood, right? So, your mitral valve is supposed to be open. But this blood that gushes backwards is going to hit that mitral valve and partially close it.
Okay? It's going to hit that mitral valve and slowly push it up and partially close it. And essentially, what is it causing?
It is causing a mitral stenosis type of murmur.
Right? Because it's closing the mitral valve that's supposed to be open because the blood gushing back is pushing it closer, right? So, you would essentially cause a mitral stenosis type of murmur here.
And what kind of murmur would you hear with mitral stenosis?
You will hear a mid diastolic murmur.
