A vivid testament to the resilience of organic social bonds against the encroaching homogeneity of global culture. It reminds us that true heritage is a living social contract, not a museum piece.

Small Town Fiesta EcuadorAdded:
Hello YouTube. Today we are off to the PBLO of Chukiri Bamba to take part in a fiesta.
Hi, good morning.
I got invited to go camping. So that's what we're doing today. We're going up to a a little community north of Lowa that uh I will mispronounce if I try. What is the name of the town again?
>> Chuki Bamba. Chuki Bamba. Uh it's a carpool situation and I've been asked to drive so there won't be a lot of video on the way there, but uh it should be a really good time. I look forward to showing it. Okay.
Okay, we made it. Uh, five people packed into the car. That was a lot of fun.
Little underpowered on the hills. We're at about 2,700 m, I'm told, so it should be a little cooler. I know now, like when the sun comes out, it's actually quite hot. But, uh, you can hear the music. It's really starting to sound like a festivity around here. So, I'll turn the camera around so you can see what's going on.
It is here.
No one tell Pikachu is in.
So this is uh >> Equali Kuyas. Kuas.
Gracias.
Hello.
I mean, I mean, How you What's that?
>> I love how Ecuadorians take time to greet one another.
If you're wondering where we're going, the fellow in the black shirt offered to let us pick apples on his property.
Apples are not native to Ecuador and can only be found growing at high elevation where the climate mimics higher latitudes.
Yeah.
Ah. Could you tell me a name the name of that fruit again?
>> Guanavana.
>> Mhm.
>> Wavana.
>> How do you spell that? Is it uh how does it begin? Like >> oh.
>> Oh, gracias.
>> Wow, look at that.
>> G uias.
>> Gracias.
>> It's actually really warm >> in the sun and I think I'm getting a little bit too much sun.
>> Okay, so how do you eat it? Just grab it and eat it.
Okay.
>> That tastes like um Yeah. Pen. Um >> what does that taste like?
>> I'm going to have to think about that for a second. It's a little bit sweet.
Like quite nice.
And uh >> kind of a >> another banana watermelon thing. I'm not sure. It's a little bit in between, but it's quite good.
Well, that was very nice. Guanavana.
I've seen these things before. I didn't know what they were. I didn't know if they were a fruit or a vegetable or what, but they're a massive fruit. I should find out if it's uh like does it grow in a tree or on the ground or what?
But you saw the size of it. It's like a medicine ball. Apparently they get up to was it 3 lb for one. Anyway, I couldn't eat it all. Just stuffed.
Apparently they get up to 30 lb and grow on the ground like a pumpkin. Delicioso guava.
Guava.
Got to try and remember these words.
Okay.
We can jump in the back.
Bye-bye, doggy.
It's good to have a nap.
Now the sun's gone down. It's quite a bit cooler, which is nice.
That's going to be cute when it gets dark.
>> Look at all the cops.
I've just been challenged to a game of foosball. So, let's give this a go.
>> All right.
>> All right. Ready.
Okay.
Yeah.
>> Okay, we're Here we go.
>> Oh, that hit the back of the net.
>> Oh, nice one.
O >> sick one.
Boo!
>> Sorry, you lost. I'm the winner.
>> Okay, I lost.
Okay, so we just left the place where we're staying and uh the crowd here, a big family that was so kind to invite me to come along.
We're just headed up to the square to uh see what's going on.
I have a dream.
That's beautiful.
We come. We come.
Gracias.
Come here.
Okay. Okay.
Ching up Rain on your super.
Oh sun.
