The Council on American Islamic Relations says it documented more than 8,600 complaints of Islamophobia and anti-Arab discrimination last year. The figure follows another record year in 2024. One of the most shocking attacks happened in Illinois in October 2023. A landlord killed 6-year-old Palestinian-American Wadea al-Fayoume after stabbing him 26 times. His mother was also seriously wounded. Prosecutors say the attack was motivated by anti-Muslim hatred linked to Israel's genocide. Weeks later, three Palestinian college students were shot in Vermont while speaking Arabic and wearing traditional kaffiyehs. One student was left paralyzed from the chest down. There have also been reports of mosque vandalism in Pennsylvania, Arizona, and New York. Muslim-owned businesses were attacked in Michigan.

The rise in anti-Muslim hate has also come as leaked research reported on DropSite News showed Israel's foreign ministry exploring anti-Muslim messaging as part of a strategy to repair Israel's image abroad. Media reports say anti-Muslim incidents rose nearly 70% during the first half of 2024 amid Israel's genocide on Palestinians in Gaza.
