HAS or HAD? Present Perfect Tense vs Past Perfect Tense | English Grammar Lesson With AnanyaAjouté :
Here are two sentences on your screen.
He has left before you arrived. He had left before you arrived. Now, one of these is wrong. And if you're not sure which one, you must watch this lesson till the end. He has left. Now, this is the present perfect [music] tense. It connects the past to right now. This means he left sometime before and the result matters even in the present moment. Here are some more examples. He has left the office. Don't call him. He has left his phone at home. Now, he had left. This is past perfect tense.
[music] It connects a past action to another past event. This means he left and then something else happened after that. Both the events are in the past.
For example, he had left the office before the meeting started. So, you can see there are two actions that occurred in the past. When I called him, he had left his phone at home. Right? Again, we have two actions in the past. Now, can you try? What will you use in this sentence? Let me know in the comments.
